Great for any skill level
My 15 year old son is a great, self-taught drummer, but also bashes on his drums. He has torn up quite a few symbols. He saved his money to buy this one over six months ago, and it is still perfect. I can't tell you about tone and sound, but as mother ignorant of symbol sounds, but very informed on cost and quality, this is definitely the brand we will go with from now on. Top to learn more
boom for the buck
This little guys sounds great and really takes a beating. I use 14" hats so i wasn't sure this would have a good meshing tone but i was wrong! I would deffinately recomend this...although if you are looking to replace more than one i would get the ZBT combo pack it comes with a free 18" crash! All in all i love it and would buy it again. Not just a book about cymbals.
Let me start off by saying that I'm a drummer. Not only that, I'm a drummer who gets a bit obsessive about his equipment. Even so, when I first saw this book, I thought, "Who the heck would want a book about a cymbal company?". All I had to do was open this book in order to find my answer. This book appeals on many levels. For one thing, it's a music fan's dream. Imagine what you would look for if you were let loose to find the "cool stuff" in Zildjian's archives - that's what you'll find here. Great drummers have been touring the Massachusetts factory for eighty years, and this book has the pictures to prove it. How about letters? They've reproduced one from Gene Krupa letting the Zildjian folks know how happy he is with his latest shipment, and one from the U.S. Government giving Zildjian permission to buy extra copper during World War II (and there are plenty of other letters and advertisements reproduced in the book). This book also... Top to learn more

Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Max Roach, Ringo Starr, Charlie Watts, Dennis Chambers, Steve Gadd and Neil Pert are among the many great innovators who have crashed, splashed, choked, gonged and ridden Zildjians to make music history on some of the most ground-breaking recordings of this century. See what these stars and the Zildjian family today have to say about these premium cymbals so rich in history. Top to learn more

Well worth it
Based on the sound of my 10" ZBT splash (ASIN B0002IP47Y) I added this 8" to my kit and am more than pleased. It has the same near instant decay and projection, and the expected higher pitch. Frankly I am surprised by the sound and performance of this cymbal since I am more of an Avedis fan and viewed the ZBT series as entry level cymbals. This cymbal is an affordable way to add a cutting splash to your kit. Sounds incredible
I tried 5 different 8 inch splashes. The Zildjian ZBT's are the, "Bottom of the line" of the Zildjian brand. That said, my drums are surrounded by Zildjian Z-3's, one of their top models. I hit the K, ZHT, ZXT, and for the heck of it, a ZBT. I want a really fast decay out of an 8 inch, but it must cut. I must have hit each cymbal 10 times. I bought the ZBT. I can't believe how good this inexpensive little splash sounds. I would have gone with the K, but for another $110.00, and for what I use an 8" splash for, that would have been just dumb.Surprised, shocked, and really happy with this little cymbal. For the record, Always hit any cymbal, or at least listen to say a U Tube video of how different cymbals sound, before making a decision. Each cymbal has it's own tone, even within the same brand, and model. It's as personal to taste's as which cigar, or wine you prefer. If you like the sound, buy it. Top to learn more

Sounds like kitchen ware, but works great!
Since I have a collection of ZBT cymbals, I went ahead and purchased a splash cymbal to add to the top of the hi-hat. Knowing that this was the cheapest splash, I wasn't expecting a whole lot. The cymbal sounds like an empty pot. Great for the price, but not recommended to use in a concert or professional setting with people listening to your performace. Perfect for practice sessions! Local drummers first started buying their special effects cymbals to "flesh out" their kits, because the prices were so good. In the past few years, a lot of guys around here have started using Stagg cymbals.
Gen 16 is a division in the Zildjian cymbal company responsible for the Digital Vault — software with samples of the best and benchmarked Zildjian cymbals for digital use. Unlike an electronic drum kit’s rubber cymbal triggers, the Gen 16 cymbal pack offers you real cymbals. When I say the cymbals are real, I mean it. They are made of a unique alloy and when played, feel exactly like a normal cymbal. Zildjian wanted to take this new affiliation with the electric world further and so the research and development team came together with the guys from Gen 16 and developed a true hybrid cymbal that is both acoustic and electric for a unique... I suppose Zildjian does make real cymbals, not effects so this makes sense. The Gen 16 cymbals look the part, sound the part and more importantly feel the part. But this means you can have a set of 13″ vintage style hats or 16″ rock hats in the same cymbal. Other simple cool features are panning so you can still make the cymbal sound like its coming from where it’s set up on the kit before you send it to front of house, which is neat.
