Great Keyboard!
I think this is a great keyboard. It has a wonderful sound, great features including the Yamaha Educational Suite (Y.E.S.) built in (includes these features: Listen & Learn, Timing, Waiting, Chord Dictionary).I am betting that the other negative reviews of the stand are because it was not put together right. I had mine together wrong for a couple weeks then yesterday took the keyboard off and looked at it and noticed the leg that was farthest from me (behind the other) had the support rest on top with the longer of its two sides coming towards me. This makes sense because that leg is further "away". Then I looked at the other one (the leg crossing closer to me) and it also had the longer side of the top rest coming towards me making the little plastic tab stops not align from side to side. I took out an allen wrench unscrewed the one holding that rest on and then flipped it around so the little tabs on the ends align with the opposite support rest. Now the slot on the...

Great little keyboard package
Turned out to be perfect for me. I love to play Bach and other baroque composers, so since they wrote for harpsichord and fortepiano (fewer keys than modern pianos), I can play everything they wrote on this 61-key Yamaha right here in my tiny apartment. This model has all the rhythm choices and instrument voices you could want without being so automatic that it feels like a toy. The headphones are a bonus when there's ambient city noise or it's late at night. Other reviewers had difficulty with the stand, but they must have assembled it incorrectly. The keyboard is designed to rest atop the crossbars, not fit into the stand in any way. Try sliding the rubber sleeve supports in or out on the crossbars to balance the keyboard properly atop the stand. Also, make sure you have the height adjuster knob facing away from you as you sit at the keyboard and that the wider ends of all crossbars are facing toward you (measure the screw-hole to end distance if you have to). This will give you...

Incredible value/ Awesome product...
I did a lot of research before choosing this keyboard. I looked at it at Fry's Electronics store but they only had the "demonstrator" and it was VERY, VERY used! Due to it's condition, they offered me the "killer" deal of a whopping 5% discount! I went to Amazon.com and found the exact same Yamaha model but, unlike the one at Fry's, the one from Amazon.com included a power adapter, a nice set of stereo headphones, AND a sturdy, adjustable stand...all at the same price. The value was incredible. The keyboard itself was awesome. I've played at playing the piano and various keyboards for over 50 years...always as a relaxing pastime and never devoting the time and practice needed to get "good". This Yamaha YPG-235 makes me GOOD! The built in styles, "voices", effects, etc., coupled with the ability to upload thousands of other sounds from the Internet via the built in USB port which connects it to your PC makes this the most advanced and awesome sounding instrument I've ever seen...

Replacement seems to work well
I received this keyboard on 2/2/11. As always, I was impressed with how quickly I received my order from Amazon.com. However, within minutes of setting up the keyboard, I noticed that two keys on the right side of the keyboard didn't work. One key simply didn't work AT ALL, and one key seemed to have a short and would only play after pressing it like 3 or 4 times in a row. Amazon is making it easy to return/exchange this keyboard, so I'm hopeful that the replacement is decent. However, after this experience and reading other reviews online of this exact problem, I am very concerned about the build quality of this keyboard, despite having heard good things over the years about Yamaha.I'll update this review after I receive the replacement in a week or so. Hopefully I won't have to switch to another brand, but Casio maybe the next one I look at (need to keep this purchase affordable).UPDATE: I received a replacement keyboard in record time: less than 2...

cheap piano substitute
Not bad. I'm pretty happy with the piano. Glad I got it, and would definitely buy it again. A few complaints to consider, but keep in mind I still rated it 4 stars. I'm just being picky here.Keys: very little resistance, therefore does not feel like a piano. Also, I have the impression the keys are narrower than piano keys. While this is not mathematically true, I still have that feeling. And when you're talking about fingers, feeling matters. I think the low resistance contributes to this. You can depress a key just by the side of your finger catching it. Now all this is not to say you can't learn. It's analogous to the difference between typing on a laptop keyboard and a full keyboard. The cogno/psycho/senso/motor skill totally translates over, you just have to get used to a different feel. The transition will seem disproportionately rough, but once you get used to it you will go back and forth fine, and practice on one will appreciate on the other.Range: You...

Awesome product
Now, I have to admit that I was a bit nervous about buying a keyboard via the Internet, as I have never owned one beforehand. However, I wanted to learn how to play the piano and had heard that this was a good one to start with from several different piano teachers. Wow, this is quite the bargain. The keyboard comes with a stand, headphones (in case you don't want to run off all of your family and friends as you're learning to play), and also a power adapter. I was surprised to find out that the keyboard does not normally come with these features, (as they are traditionally sold separately), but this package comes with all of these features! The keyboard comes with about 100 built-in songs, (a part of the Yamaha Educational Suite), which you can learn to play along with. (Personally, I have found it easier to buy the Bastien learning series books, as the songs that are included with this keyboard are in small print. This is just my experience, but since I am teaching...

Nice
This is my first real keyboard and I got it to learn to play piano. I've only had it a few days but I'm really impressed by it so far. The keyboard seems to be really good with teaching songs, not only do the keys light up but it tells you which fingers to use and it can teach one hand at a time which is nice for a beginner. I really wasn't expecting much but this thing sounds like a real piano and even the stand and headphones are pretty good quality.

Yamaha Education Suite: Helps you learn to play
The EZ-200 has 100 built-in songs for you to learn to play, using the Yamaha Education Suite. The songs are separated into left and right hand parts, providing 7 levels of lessons plus a convenient chord dictionary. In addition, the correct fingering is indicated in the LCD display.

  • Three keyboard lessons for each hand:

    • Lesson One--LISTEN & LEARN the melody or rhythm of a selected song.
    • Lesson Two--TIMING mode allows you to play the melody or chord by pressing any key using the correct timing.
    • Lesson Three: WAITING mode stops the playback of a song until you find the correct note and then continues.

  • Lesson Grading--monitors your progress as you practice each lessons two and three and gives you a grade.
  • Chord Dictionary--shows you how to play chords and tells you which chords you are playing by displaying the notes and chord name on the LCD screen.

Computer Connectivity: General MIDI (GM) and XGlite compatible
The music pathway to your computer and the Internet is MIDI. It's the way that keyboards communicate with computers. And because the EZ-200 is both General MIDI (GM) and XGlite compatible, you have access to thousands of MIDI song files on the Internet.

367 Voices and the One-Touch Setting
The EZ-200 has 367 Voices for you to choose from. For example, there are pianos, electric pianos, harpsichord, guitars, drums, bass, violins, brass and synthesizer voices. Pretty much every instrument in the orchestra is at your fingertips. And if you don't know which sound goes with what style of music, the keyboard can select an appropriate sound for you using the convenient One-Touch Setting.

Sound Quality: Real stereo (Not just 2 Speakers)
Some keyboards have two speakers but aren't stereo. Don't be fooled. Just because a keyboard has two speakers doesn't mean that it's truly stereo with two separate amplifiers. All Yamaha Portable Keyboards feature stereo-sampling technology.

32 Note Polyphony and 16 Part Multi Timbrel
In electronic keyboards, the more sounds made at the same time--polyphony--the more memory is needed. Obviously, more is always better, because too little polyphony can cause dropouts in dense passages of music. Some keyboards at this price point have only 12-note polyphony. The EZ-200 has 32 notes of polyphony and will play back 16 different parts or sounds at once (16-part multi timbrel); enough for the most demanding needs.

Reverb
Yamaha has long been a world leader in digital signal processing technology. In fact, Yamaha professional audio products are found in most professional recording studios around the world. The EZ-200 takes full advantage of this know-how, giving you an extensive range of nine, top-quality reverb effects that simulate playing in everything from a small room to a large spacious concert hall; a first in this price range.

Metronome
Just what the teacher ordered! A fully adjustable metronome is just a button push away.

Strike up the Band!--Keyboard Styles
In addition to the 100 songs found in the EZ-200, there are 100 Styles that allow you to play any song you like. It's just like having a built-in band. Call up your favorite style of music like Rock, Big Band or Country, press a chord or play Single Finger mode, and the EZ-200 will follow you through a piece of music, providing all of the drums, bass, piano, guitar, horn and string parts for you. With this instrument, you can make great sounding music with little more than 2 fingers, however as you learn to play, the EZ-200 will adapt to your new skills and automatically switch between single finger mode and fingered mode where you play all the notes of the chord.

Connectivity
The EZ-200 features MIDI In/Out, Sustain Pedal jack and a Headphone jack for private practice.

Don't forget your Survival Kit!
Designed to provide you with everything you need to get started. Kit includes a two-year extended warranty, power adaptor, foot switch on models that require it, stereo headphones, bonus coupons and a DVD-ROM. Look for it at a dealer near you.

Great keyboard and learning system but lousy stand
I read many reviews of this keyboard before I purchased it, both good and bad, and I agree with a number of the comments others have made -- I love the keyboard, hate the stand.First, I love this keyboard and the teaching system. I have found the multiple teaching methods to be very handy and clever. You have the option of learning by following along with a demonstration while the keys light up, or you can just sit and watch and learn, or you can practice tapping out the rhythm on any key just to get the pacing right, or you can use the "wait" method, where the keys light up and the song plays along with you, but if you stop or get the wrong key, the system waits for you, holds the song at that point, lights up the correct key(s) to hit, and does not proceed until you get it right, then continues. I like that you can turn off the demonstration at any point, and you can turn off the lighted keys if you like and just play the instrument like a regular piano...

Considerably better than anticipated!
After having played the in a showroom and loving it, I was torn, wondering what all I would be missing out on if I went with the more economically priced YPG-235. I now own the 235 and it appears as if I am missing out on twelve keys. That is, I am not experiencing even an ounce of buyer's remorse after opting for the cheaper 235. This is a lovely keyboard with more beautiful voices than I will ever know what to do with and extremely user friendly functionality. Of course, my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt as I will be the first to admit that my experience with other products of this variety is extremely limited. As such, it might be best to say that, for a novice, one could not ask for a better instrument for the price. So what is the difference between the 235...

A very nice electric piano
I am a novice piano player, but for the price, this electric piano is fantastic. It works perfectly with Mac Garage Band (download Yamaha Mac drivers). The grand piano sample sounds like a real piano. The led display helps with reading notes. There are 300+ samples, fun for the my nephews, and fun for me. It has a a nice resistive feeling between a real piano and a synth. The lower octaves have a heavier feel compared to the higher octaves. For the serious novice or the pro that needs a nice inexpensive portable, this machine is a super bargain. In no way does this machine feel cheap. Yamaha created a wonderful machine, with the greatest respect for those on a budget.

Product Description

If you're looking for a reasonably priced piano replacement, look no further than the YPG-235. It is the music student or professional musicians' answer to “I need more keys!” and many music teachers encourage new students to get a keyboard that will grow with their needs. It features 76 non-weighted keys that not only look like piano keys but have a Graded Soft Touch (GST) action with different levels of resistance, making it easier for a budding musician to move to an acoustic or digital piano. Awesome except for reverb in the F below middle C
I really wanted a 76-key keyboard that would have a realistic piano sound as well as various beats and other sounds, and the ability to connect to my computer should I decide to get into composing music. So far, I've only used it as a piano and have played around a little with other voices and the beats. The piano sound is excellent! I like a few of the other sounds but most of them I don't care for. My main concern is that there is reverb in F below middle C that I don't hear in the other keys. I thought it must be defective (sounds that way to me) so I got a replacement. I have the same problem with the replacement. I have sensitive hearing so maybe that's the issue. It's not such a horrible reverb that it ruins my playing experience but it is a bit annoying. I figure that for $200 the quality is excellent - it's just that one note. I was aware, but maybe some are not, that the keys are not weighted like a piano. I think that my $200 was well spent. If I get really serious about...

Great so Far
Nice keyboard, nice sound, feels like a real piano and it's got all the keys. I like that it includes a nice, stable music rest, keyboard stand, footswitch and power adaptor.Lots of features too: fun sounds, (drum, maracas, bongos, etc. plus sound effects like phone, ufo, dog barking, etc)It has a super metronome which you can adjust the tempo of, set the number of beats per measure, adjust volume, etc.It records your performance which is nice, so my piano teacher can play something she wants me to learn, record it, then I can replay that when I'm practicing.More features, too many to mention... If you'd like to start with something smaller or something less expensiv, I'd check out a Casio keyboard. ...

Great Keyboard
We received the keyboard very quickly and in perfect condition - which was a concern because we are an FPO address overseas. It sounds great and the keys are semi-weighted. I doubt we will ever need to upgrade this keyboard - since it has so many features and we are recreational players. Great choice if you want something more than a standard keyboard and less than a digital piano.

Great product for the price, but not the best feel ever.
First, let me say that this is a solid product for a very good price. It's highly portable, even once you set it up. I'm not sure how much it weighs, but I'm a 5'3", 95lbs person, and I can lift and carry this piano with a medium amount of effort. It's got a full keyboard, and has hundreds of different sounds effects, as well as a pretty good volume range and a jack that you can plug your headphones into if you want a little bit of privacy (although, you have to buy an adapter for your headphone jack). With that said, the main reason I didn't give this product a full 5 stars is that when you press the keys, it's much more difficult to press the keys closer to the top than the bottom of the keys. This probably has something to do with how the spring mechanism for the keys were designed, and I'm not sure if this is a problem with all keyboards on electronic pianos. It has taken some getting used to and sometimes, I miss notes because of the pressure differential. Also, the...

The lowest that might do as a "starter" piano.
[I owe it to the potential buyer, searching for a good "starter piano" in this price range, to clarify that my singling out the Yamaha YPG-535 is based on the popularity rankings of instruments available from or through Amazon. There are at least 3 other, similar instruments that deserve equal consideration, even if they are not presently as conspicuous on Amazon: 1. Yamaha P-95 (a newer model than the YPG-535, with perhaps more "realistic" piano action); 2. Korg SP250 (new and with more powerful speakers than the Yamaha, but more than 3 times the weight of the Yamaha and including 30 onboard "Preset Songs" (the last thing you need if the point is to learn how to play); 3. Casio PX-3 (Sometimes overlooked because of brand but usually the most bang for your buck. My only reservations with this one are the gratuitous gadgetry--an SD card slot for downloaded computer sounds--and the extra weight (twice as heavy as the Yamaha) and expense (this particular Casio has no onboard speakers,...
