Perfect practice keyboard
I was looking for a "dummy" keyboard on which I could learn and repeat difficult passages hundreds of times in succession without driving the neighbors mad. I also wanted to be able to practice late at night or early in the morning at weekends. The "annoyance to neighbors" factor has always held me back from practicing properly as I'm constantly aware how loud my real piano must sound to the poor folks next door. This keyboard more than meets the requirements. Although the keys have a spring mechanism and not a hammer action, they feel more realistic than the keys on previous generations of electronic keyboards. If you want a basic no-frills keyboard to learn music and to drill sequences of notes into your fingers, as I do, this does the job perfectly, and there is no need to spend several times as much money on an 88-key hammer-action keyboard. The 76 keys are enough for all music up to at least Beethoven and much music later than that. The keys are marginally shorter...

I've been waiting for something like this for years
Until now, there hasn't been an affordable 76-key keyboard that weighs ONLY 12 POUNDS and can RUN ON BATTERIES! Keyboardists who don't need all the bells and whistles of sequencers and synthesizers will be delighted with this ultra-light keyboard. There are only a few sounds (a couple pianos, harpsichord, electric piano), but for little cocktail piano, wedding or singer-songwriter gigs, often you only need a piano sound. (Yamaha is known for its authentic piano sounds.) No more breaking your back carrying your keyboard. Now if someone could just find a way to create a light and powerful amplifier... (This keyboard also has built-in speakers, but for most performing situations you would need more volume than they provide. However, if you're just playing at home the volume is sufficient.)

if its features are enough for you, it's good quality and value
Before detailed remarks, here is my reference point. Having been spoiled with playing real pianos (I should say "acoustic", for PC :), I wanted a keyboard just to enjoy some classical music on my own, at my amateur level. I wanted it to be like a piano (in how it feels and sounds) but small and inexpensive. PROS: PORTABILITY - especially for an (almost) full-size keyboard. I really didn't want another piece of furniture. NP30 just lies on the table, which (to my own surprise) ended up as the deciding factor for me. YMMV. SOUND. All the voices (including grand piano, organ, harpsichord) are well done and beautiful. (But see "CONS" below.) KEY WEIGHTING. NP30's keys are something like "semi-weighted" and "touch sensitive" (but consult the official specs on this) and somewhat easy to press. But see "CONS" below. Great so Far
Nice keyboard, nice sound, feels like a real piano and it's got all the keys. I like that it includes a nice, stable music rest, keyboard stand, footswitch and power adaptor. Lots of features too: fun sounds, (drum, maracas, bongos, etc. plus sound effects like phone, ufo, dog barking, etc) It has a super metronome which you can adjust the tempo of, set the number of beats per measure, adjust volume, etc. It records your performance which is nice, so my piano teacher can play something she wants me to learn, record it, then I can replay that when I'm practicing. More features, too many to mention... If you'd like to start with something smaller or something less expensiv, I'd check out a Casio keyboard. ...

Great Keyboard
We received the keyboard very quickly and in perfect condition - which was a concern because we are an FPO address overseas. It sounds great and the keys are semi-weighted. I doubt we will ever need to upgrade this keyboard - since it has so many features and we are recreational players. Great choice if you want something more than a standard keyboard and less than a digital piano.

Great product for the price, but not the best feel ever.
First, let me say that this is a solid product for a very good price. It's highly portable, even once you set it up. I'm not sure how much it weighs, but I'm a 5'3", 95lbs person, and I can lift and carry this piano with a medium amount of effort. It's got a full keyboard, and has hundreds of different sounds effects, as well as a pretty good volume range and a jack that you can plug your headphones into if you want a little bit of privacy (although, you have to buy an adapter for your headphone jack). With that said, the main reason I didn't give this product a full 5 stars is that when you press the keys, it's much more difficult to press the keys closer to the top than the bottom of the keys. This probably has something to do with how the spring mechanism for the keys were designed, and I'm not sure if this is a problem with all keyboards on electronic pianos. Incredible value/ Awesome product...
I did a lot of research before choosing this keyboard. I looked at it at Fry's Electronics store but they only had the "demonstrator" and it was VERY, VERY used! Due to it's condition, they offered me the "killer" deal of a whopping 5% discount! I went to Amazon.com and found the exact same Yamaha model but, unlike the one at Fry's, the one from Amazon.com included a power adapter, a nice set of stereo headphones, AND a sturdy, adjustable stand...all at the same price. The value was incredible. The keyboard itself was awesome. I've played at playing the piano and various keyboards for over 50 years...always as a relaxing pastime and never devoting the time and practice needed to get "good". This Yamaha YPG-235 makes me GOOD! The built in styles, "voices", effects, etc., coupled with the ability to upload thousands of other sounds from the Internet via the built in USB port which connects it to your PC makes this the most advanced and awesome sounding instrument I've ever seen...

Replacement seems to work well
I received this keyboard on 2/2/11. As always, I was impressed with how quickly I received my order from Amazon.com. However, within minutes of setting up the keyboard, I noticed that two keys on the right side of the keyboard didn't work. One key simply didn't work AT ALL, and one key seemed to have a short and would only play after pressing it like 3 or 4 times in a row. Amazon is making it easy to return/exchange this keyboard, so I'm hopeful that the replacement is decent. However, after this experience and reading other reviews online of this exact problem, I am very concerned about the build quality of this keyboard, despite having heard good things over the years about Yamaha. I'll update this review after I receive the replacement in a week or so. Hopefully I won't have to switch to another brand, but Casio maybe the next one I look at (need to keep this purchase affordable). cheap piano substitute
Not bad. I'm pretty happy with the piano. Glad I got it, and would definitely buy it again. A few complaints to consider, but keep in mind I still rated it 4 stars. I'm just being picky here. Keys: very little resistance, therefore does not feel like a piano. Also, I have the impression the keys are narrower than piano keys. While this is not mathematically true, I still have that feeling. And when you're talking about fingers, feeling matters. I think the low resistance contributes to this. You can depress a key just by the side of your finger catching it. Now all this is not to say you can't learn. It's analogous to the difference between typing on a laptop keyboard and a full keyboard. The cogno/psycho/senso/motor skill totally translates over, you just have to get used to a different feel. The transition will seem disproportionately rough, but once you get used to it you will go back and forth fine, and practice on one will appreciate on the other. Range:...

Replaces PA-4 Series Adapter
I have an old PSR-32 keyboard which came standard with Yamaha's PA-4 adapter (which I fried in the early 90's). A Yamaha rep told me to replace my burned-out PA-4 with the PA-150 and sure enough the PSR-32 fired up for the first time in years. I know many folks have been looking for a PA-4 replacement and there are few, if any, sites that actually list which one works. Stop guessing and get the PA-150. This is the model Yamaha officially suggests to replace the discontinued PA-4 so why take chances with other adapters that may damage your keyboard?
