Flute
This flute is the best I have ever had. It took some adjusting to because I was used to using Yamaha. This flute is a strudy one and I hadn't had any problems with the flute since then. Also I'm in Middle School.

Great Instrument for price!
Instrument is wonderful. A pad under the far pinky came off which was not a big deal. My only issue with this package was the case. We've had the instrument since Sept, and the case is falling apart, a whole side came off already. Need to go out an purchase a new case, which is not cheap. Happy with the flute, just not with the case.

Excellent, Invaluable
This is not a typical 6 hole fife, but instead has 8 holes. There are many variations of fifes in existence, and as far as I can tell, this one seems to be fairly new. It is really a unique instrument, a sort of hybrid between a recorder and flute. It shares many of the better aspects of both instruments- like the flute you can control pitch independent of volume, the C major scale is fingered the same logical way as the flute. Like the plastic soprano recorder it is very small/portable, and likewise very inexpensive. Like both the flute and recorder it overblows at the octave.It seems to be an ideal instrument for children transitioning from recorder to flute (as the finger holes are similar to a recorder and the blowing technique required is similar to the flute). Once the blowing and fingering techniques are learned, this instrument is very dynamic and responsive with a very nice range similar to the soprano recorder.One slight drawback- the instrument is...

Great to develop beginning flute students!
As a flute instructor, I have found starting young students on this "fife" to be the most economical and efficient way to develop tone and technique, especially when paired with Liz Goodwin's "The Fife Book". The embouchure and fingerings are identical to the flute and after several months of instruction, students can make an easy switch to the traditional concert flute if/when desired, while maintaining their full tone and fingering skills.

Not a true fife but very nice sound
I was interested in this "Fife" and at the price I could not resist. Here are the quick pros and cons:Pros:Beautiful, "pure" sound. Not too breathy. Good esp for the price.Great for transitioning from a recorder/pennywhistle to a transverse woodwind instrument (eg flute, fife, irish flute, piccolo, etc)The plastic feels sturdyTight two-head construction allows for it to be somewhat tuneableCons:This is not a true Fife. It is actually a transverse recorder. A "true" fife is a Bb "simple" system flute with only 6 holes and no thumb hole. A bit like a small irish flute.However, it is not a typical transverse recorder either due to unusual fingering.In fact, if it was a true transverse recorder, I would have given this 5/5. Great Beginner Flute! Best value for your money
I did the homework so you don't have to.I looked around a long time before deciding on this particular flute. My daughter is starting band and I wanted a decent starter flute that would be easy to play and be durable at the same time. I played in band many years ago and I have seen a large array of different instruments. I can't see how you could a better value than this instrument. First of all it is Triple silver plated not nickel/silver like so many cheap flutes are. It is very obvious when you first see this instrument that is silver plated. I can tell you this instrument is nothing short of stunning in appearance. More importantly than initial appearance is silver can be polished to regain initial luster. I played a brass instrument that had a clear lacquer coat that looked awful after 2 years even though I cleaned my instrument after every use. I had a friend that had a silver plated trumpet that was beautiful after 6 years of playing. For me personally,...

Excellent Beginner Flute
When I first started playing the flute two years ago, I received this flute as a gift from my parents. It has served me faithfully so far, and I have only had to take it for repair once, and that was just a quick tightening of a leaking key.The Gemeinhardt 2SP is a VERY durable flute. It withstood my rough, clumsy, inexperienced fingers and my countless dropping of it. (On carpet, thankfully.)The headjoint, keys, body, and footjoint are all silver-plated. Although the quality of the tone cannot, of course, match those of an intermediate or professional flute, they come out clear and easily and are more than enough for a beginner.I highly recommend the Gemeinhardt 2SP for the flute beginner.Two thumbs up!

I received the flute quick and in good condition exept for some sticky goo on the inside of the body piece, about an inch wide. I took it off with q-tip and vascoline. The embouchure hole is the oval shape (unlike the Jupiters and Armstrong, which is a rounded-off square shape), and requires soft playing to get clear notes. If you like a better tone, and dont mind using more air power, I suggest the other models mentioned. For now Im happy with this model, since the notes are quicker having the small oval shape, and needing less effort and air. For my indoor hobby I find it suitable for soft and quiet playing. The keys are soft to the touch, not bouncy, and you get a black plastic cleaning rod with it.

A decent "you can't hurt it" recorder
I have a more expensive plastic Yamaha recorder at home, but this is the one we are using in an adult "advanced beginners" class. The sound is decent for a plastic recorder. This one is in the trunk of my car and is just taken out once a week for the class. It doesn't clog very easily (something that seems more likely when you've been playing a good wooden one for awhile.) This is a good choice for a beginner recorder. And when I've heard it played by our instructor, the tone is really quite good. Instead of the $2 one piece recorders, splurge :-). Being an acoustic guitar player who has to always be concerned about things like humidity, temperature and having to take great care with an instrument, this is great. Nothing is going to damage it, doesn't take up much space, and you can make music with it. Seriously, this sounds as good as some plastic ones I've heard that cost $15-$30 dollars. The 4 star rating is based on comparably priced plastic recorders, and not the more expensive...
