Great buy for the money...
It sounds and feels great for a digital piano. It does only come with about 10 voices, but if you're learning to play or just want to play most standard songs you don't need all of the others. It doesn't have all the 'bells and whistles', it is pretty basic. But it does have the ability to do quite a bit... you just have to read the instructions to learn how to access them using the actual piano keys as opposed to having a button for specific functions (like changing the key signature on the metronome, changing reverb settings, or adding duel voices). One down side is that it only has midi connections (no usb ports), but it's not a real big deal. usb would be nice, but you can transfer all the data you need to and from your computer or other midi device pretty quickly with the midi connections... you just have to buy a midi-usb adapter to connect to the computer. Two quarter inch audio jacks for headphones or PA. Full 88 Weighted keys. For someone looking for a portable,...

Careful about stand choice
I was really excited to get this piano. I chose it for the wighted keys and sound. I ran into trouble with the stand however.Amazon and Best Buy recommended an "X" style stand, which is totally wrong for this table top keyboard. Now I have to order and wait for the Yamaha L-85 stand.Don't know if anyone else had this problem, but don't do what I did.

Product Description

Features Graded Hammer Standard (GHS) Keyboard with matte finish of black keysJust as on a traditional acoustic piano, the keys of the lower notes have a heavier touch, while the higher ones are more responsive to lighter playing. The keyboard's sensitivity can even be adjusted to match your playing style. This Graded Hammer technology also enables the instrument to provide authentic touch in a lightweight instrument. The matte finish of the black keys enhances the keyboard's luxurious appearance. Compact, Stylish DesignThe attractive, slim, lightweight design of the instrument suits virtually any interior d?cor, and occupies less space than most coffee tables. No piano movers required. Advanced Wave Memory (AWM) Dynamic Stereo SamplingThe AWM (Advanced Wave Memory) is a sampling system which creates the realism of an acoustic instrument by using digital technology to record the instrument sound and applying high-quality digital filter technology to the recorded audio samples. The waveform of the sound created by playing the key of an acoustic piano differs depending on the playing strength from pianissimo to fortissimo. The AWM Dynamic Stereo Sampling can produce such dynamic nuances by recording samples of various playing strengths. The greater the number of samples used, the higher the expression. Built-in Stereo Speaker SystemThis instrument uses highly efficient amplifiers that pack more sound into a lighter digital piano. With 6 watts per channel, these keyboards are ready to go whenever you are. Essential SoundsThis instrument features an array of commonly used sounds such as grand pianos, electric pianos, organs, harpsichords, vibraphones, strings and new choir and Jazz organ. Each of these sounds has been recorded and recreated with Yamaha's unrivaled attention to detail. 50 Preset Piano SongsA selection of 50 different piano songs is provided for your listening pleasure. Very nearly PERFECT
After finally deciding it was time to upgrade, i've begun the quest of finding the PERFECT keyboard. I am only able to compare the P95 to my Korg N-one so far and of course to the real pianos i`ve played. Hands down the Yamaha P95 is the most touchy feely digital piano i`ve ever had the pleasure to play. It invites expression, something i really was missing from my acoustic piano days. So that`s marvellous. The tone is `nearly`` perfect. Still think there must be a better one out there, but i haven`t found it yet. This is as close as i`ve come so far to sound perfection, for the acoustic piano sound. The other sounds are sadly lacking but that`s not what i need it for. So for feel, full marks, acoustic piano tone nearly full marks. Ease of operation - to be honest i did not get the manual as this is a rental. I`m sure with a manual you could figure out all the ins and outs. But for just sit down and play, record while you play, play it back, add a bit of strings, all simple...

AC adapter required
I'm giving this piano 5 stars. For quality of build, features, sound quality and price. Quality Yamaha instrument (YPT-230). Great keys, nice sound, lots of features. Feels solid and well built. Read the product specs from Yamaha to compare various keyboards in this price range. Note that this model requires 6 AA batteries or an AC adapter, which is not included. Packaging indicates the following, "Requires AC adapter (YAMAHA PA-3C, PA-130). AC Adapter: not included". The only negative is that it didn't come standard with the AC adapter and Amazon wasn't clear in the item description. However, since the adapters are easily obtained for less than $20, it's a great deal even it you have to order the accessory adapter.

My First Keyboard
After a lifetime of being musically challenged, I decided to learn to play the piano. Yamaha has a nice selection of low-cost keyboards for the beginner and I chose the YPT-230 based on price. It has a lot of nice features, but I was only interested in a well-built keyboard that sounds good. This keyboard is well-made and sounds just like a piano. It's just what I need!It does not come with a power adapter, probably to shave a few bucks off the price. But I'd recommend getting one so you don't have to fool around with batteries.

Good Keyboard, Not Velocity/Touch Sensitive
I purchased this keyboard on another website a couple of weeks ago. It has lots of sounds and decent sounding speakers. The build quality is also good, but lacks weighted and touch/velocity sensitive keys. If you are a prospective producer looking for something to hook up to your computer, I would not recommend this keyboard. If you are looking for a keyboard learn or practice this keyboard will be great for you. Also be aware that this keyboard comes with no cables including a power cable. Hope this helps.

Great Digital Piano
Pros:1) Sounds like a Yamaha Grand Piano.2) Touch/feels like a Yamaha Grand Piano3) Considering the sound and the touch - the price is unbelievable.Cons:1) It has 2 built-in speakers which leave a LOT to be desired. The guy at the music store handed me a pair of Yamaha headphones - the difference in the sound quality was incredible.2) He also recommended a Z stand for it which sells for 49 bucks. It is more stable that the standard X stand.3) It comes with a really cheap sustain pedal. Amazon is showing a good option in the "Customers who bought this item also bought" M-Audio SP-2 US65010 $25 pedal.4) And finally, I'm with the reviewer that said, "Where are my stage outs?" - especially when you consider the quality of the onboard speakers.I gave it 5 stars anyway, between the 2 of us it should get 4 1/2 stars.

Excellent value for the money
The Yamaha P-85 is well-designed digital piano with the full 88 keys at a price point that is hard to beat. 10 different voices are included, which can also be layered in many different ways (e.g., octave-shifted). The grand piano voices and the first electric organ are in stereo (and there are two stereo headphone jacks at the front of the device) and sound absolutely amazing. Multisampling is used, and the samples are blended expertly, so there isn't that jarring effect where suddenly a completely different sample is played when you hit a key a little harder, as I noticed on the Casio PX-320. Polyphony on the P-85 is sufficient that dropped notes should not be noticeable. Reverb can be added to the voices to simulate small rooms (or concert halls), and there is a built-in very basic MIDI recorder. The P-85 looks very stylish and has a solid, well-made overall feel to it. Although the keys are weighted, the instrument is remarkably slim and lightweight. In fact, the...

What a great deal this is!
When a master controller keyboard started to go flaky on me, I started looking for a replacement, and since I didn't REALLY need anything but a basic piano at this point (already having other keyboards that can serve this purpose), the focus was going to be on having 88 weighted keys, but being lightweight and portable. In the start of the 90s, stage pianos that remotely sounded like the real thing were becoming affordable, though hideously bulky and heavy. Let's just say they wouldn't fit in my car so easily, which leaves you reliant on the rest of the band for your transportation. End of the 90s, Korg was selling their 88 key Trinity keyboards, one of which I had the pleasure to lug around in my car for 10 years (it just barely fit!) but ultimately wore out because I couldn't get a case or even bag for it - it was just too big. It still works but gets unpredictable when I move it, so I had to make the call, and buy a replacement.I checked out some of the lower end...

Incredible value/ Awesome product...
I did a lot of research before choosing this keyboard. I looked at it at Fry's Electronics store but they only had the "demonstrator" and it was VERY, VERY used! Due to it's condition, they offered me the "killer" deal of a whopping 5% discount! I went to Amazon.com and found the exact same Yamaha model but, unlike the one at Fry's, the one from Amazon.com included a power adapter, a nice set of stereo headphones, AND a sturdy, adjustable stand...all at the same price. The value was incredible. The keyboard itself was awesome. I've played at playing the piano and various keyboards for over 50 years...always as a relaxing pastime and never devoting the time and practice needed to get "good". This Yamaha YPG-235 makes me GOOD! The built in styles, "voices", effects, etc., coupled with the ability to upload thousands of other sounds from the Internet via the built in USB port which connects it to your PC makes this the most advanced and awesome sounding instrument I've ever seen...

Replacement seems to work well
I received this keyboard on 2/2/11. As always, I was impressed with how quickly I received my order from Amazon.com. However, within minutes of setting up the keyboard, I noticed that two keys on the right side of the keyboard didn't work. One key simply didn't work AT ALL, and one key seemed to have a short and would only play after pressing it like 3 or 4 times in a row. Amazon is making it easy to return/exchange this keyboard, so I'm hopeful that the replacement is decent. However, after this experience and reading other reviews online of this exact problem, I am very concerned about the build quality of this keyboard, despite having heard good things over the years about Yamaha.I'll update this review after I receive the replacement in a week or so. Hopefully I won't have to switch to another brand, but Casio maybe the next one I look at (need to keep this purchase affordable).UPDATE: I received a replacement keyboard in record time: less than 2...

cheap piano substitute
Not bad. I'm pretty happy with the piano. Glad I got it, and would definitely buy it again. A few complaints to consider, but keep in mind I still rated it 4 stars. I'm just being picky here.Keys: very little resistance, therefore does not feel like a piano. Also, I have the impression the keys are narrower than piano keys. While this is not mathematically true, I still have that feeling. And when you're talking about fingers, feeling matters. I think the low resistance contributes to this. You can depress a key just by the side of your finger catching it. Now all this is not to say you can't learn. It's analogous to the difference between typing on a laptop keyboard and a full keyboard. The cogno/psycho/senso/motor skill totally translates over, you just have to get used to a different feel. The transition will seem disproportionately rough, but once you get used to it you will go back and forth fine, and practice on one will appreciate on the other.Range: You...

Best thing since sliced bread!
Honestly now. I have the Casio Privia piano, which can use 2 pedals. I bought 2 of these pedals to try and they work great. The one major complaint I've always had with non traditional pianos is the cheap tiny pedals every company gives you. Plus they give you only 1 at that.Say goodbye to those tiny boxes, pretending to be pedals, slipping and sliding out from under your feet. These are real full size piano pedals and are heavy enough to stay put even without the non slide bottoms. I've had mine 3 months now and have not had to climb under my piano once looking for and sorting out which pedal is which...they simply stay put!JulyThe more I use these little wonders the more I love them.

Works with my Yamaha Keyboard
I am using this pedal with a Yamaha YPT-200 keyboard and it is compatible. It worked from the start and responds as I expect it to. It has the feel of a real piano pedal. (I'm not an expert, but I have played on acoustic pianos in the past.)I like the weight and the rubber bottom, because they allow the pedal to stay put. No problems for me.

M-Audio SP-2 Sustain Pedal--Play as Passionately as You Want

The M-Audio SP-2 Sustain Pedal is the perfect product for keyboard players who want the most realistic pedal action. The SP-2 model is used in the same manner as the sustain pedal on an acoustic piano. This classic-style pedal works with any M-Audio keyboard. Designed to work and feel just like an acoustic pianos sustain pedal, it has a specially designed rubber bottom that grips the floor and stays put while you play.

Feels as good as an acoustic piano pedal.

One Pedal for All
The SP-2 is a universal sustain pedal with polarity switch for compatibility with all electronic keyboards. Its classic design with rubber-coated shell and chrome foot pedal make it as attractive to the eye as it is comfortable for the foot. The M-Audio SP-2 Sustain Pedal is built around a heavy-duty mechanism that makes it long lasting and durable, no matter how much pressure you like to use.

Feels Like the Real Deal
With the kind of soft resistance a full-sized piano pedal gives, the SP-2 feels just like playing an acoustic piano. The give and take playback allows the musician to be confident that when they press the sustain pedal, the note lingers like it should. As soon as the musician lifts their foot, the note is gone. The SP-2 is as responsive as it needs to be.

M-Audio means quality gear.

Ideal for Home or the Concert Hall
This foot pedal is a full size piano pedal and is heavy enough to stay put even without the non slide bottoms. At 10.5-inches long, they won't falter under the largest of shoes. Never fumble around for your foot pedal again. The M-Audio SP-2 Sustain Pedal helps you find the right position for your foot to allow ease of play and then it stays put.

Great...if you have the room under your keyboard
I had been using the 'pedal' which came with the keyboard for the Privia px-100 keyboard which is nothing like a pedal on a normal piano. I purchased the M-Audio pedal to replace it.At first I was thrilled with this pedal, but when I bought a stand for my digital piano I discovered a problem. This pedal is very long, 10.5". With the stand against the wall there was no room to push the pedal far enough back to place into a normal playing position. I had to move the stand about 8 inches from the wall to put the pedal into place. Before buying just beware of how you have/want to arrange your keyboard and be sure you'll have the room to use the pedal comfortably.

Great for a beginner living in an apartment!
I am an absolute newbie with sight-reading experience from my former choir singing days! I wanted to learn to play a piano but did not want the tuning and expense of owning the real McCoy and then find i didn't want to play it. Especially living in an apartment there were the neighbors to consider as well as the premium floor space. Then I came upon the digital piano and this form solved all my problems in one quiet swoop. You get what you pay for, so do some research on your must have and budget. I just knew that i wanted a brand name in the world of music so the yamaha was a given. Now I was deciding between the 161 and the 141, both new models released on 2010. I finally went with the 161 for the better hammer action and that it offered the 128 notes polyphony. These might be minor issues for you, but my passion to learn made me decide that rather than upgrade later, I would splash out a little bit more now and have the piano for a lot longer. If you live in an apartment...

Yamaha digital piano
I love this piano. When I moved to a small apartment, I couldn't take my grand piano with me so I needed a substitute. This piano has the sound quality of a fine grand piano. The piano is a stand alone instrument and not portable. The key action and feel is so good that it's hard to know you are not playing a conventional piano. The ability to control the volume is a big feature for apartment living. There is the ability to change the sound to other instruments, which is fun for a change of pace, but there are not the "bells and whistles," such as recording your performance or accompanying rhythms. It's an excellent and inexpensive replacement for a good piano.

very happy with this
I walked into the store with thousands, thousands! I was finally ready to buy a new, top-quality piano, after years of subsisting with used ones. I had been saving for years (literally), and was finally willing to go whole-hog on the piano buying.I stroked the acoustic grands. Tempting, but I wouldn't be able to play them at night (when I am typically awake and the family is asleep), since there's no way to turn down the volume. So it had to be a digital one.I went to the highest-end digital model, plugged in my noise-cancelling headphones, and started banging away. Impressive. But I noticed that a lot of features for which you're paying all that money are ones that I would never use (e.g., how often do I need a rhumba accompaniment?). Also, do I really need all those voices? Finally I ended up just buying this one, the much cheaper Arius. I've had it for a year and I've had zero complaints about it. It's the same technology as that used on...
