Great guitar
I played a Johnson dreadnought in highschool and was told that my fingers would stop hurting eventually. They never did do to the really high action (distance from fretboard to string). After 2yrs I finally gave up guitar. Recently I was having a 1/4 life crisis (im 25) and wanted to learn guitar. I broke out the old johnson from the closet and played for 2 weeks and again the finger problem. I went to Guitar Center and talked to a couple of the guys and started playing as many guitars as i could. I found that every single one was easier on my fingers than the johnson. I tried out the yamaha and a few others in this range. The yamaha just felt so much better. The action was perfect for a newbie but after asking another customer to test it for me (guy was freaking awesome on a guitar) I realized this one was amazing on really advanced stuff and you could strum the heck out of it and it still sounds amazing. Please if you are looking at playing guitar. PLEASE start with something like...

Excellent guitar, with excellent potential
I got this guitar about a year ago as a birthday present from my girlfriend. Because ears are so subjective, we went to Guitar Center to try out a whole slew of makes and models. Pretty much anything they had in the sub-$500 range. I tried Martins, Fenders, Epiphones, Gibsons, Taylors, Ovations, Yamahas-- you name it, I tried it. Most sounded pretty good, but you could tell they were budget guitars. Just no balance. Some had great deep tone but no treble. Others were very bright but had no bottom end. I was about ready to settle on a $350 Yamaha (which looked BEAUTIFUL) and had a decent balance, but then my girlfriend found this FG700S hiding behind some boxes. I played it and...WOW. Rich lows and bright highs. Needless to say, that's the one I picked. My fingers hurt at first from playing it so much, but I got used to it pretty quick. I kept the same strings Yamaha had originally put on it for about 6 months before they started to turn dark with corrosion. I don't know...

Great low cost instrument
After many years of thinking about it, I finally decided to actually pick up the guitar so received a hand me down Sigma from the 70's and started plucking away. After a few months of killing my fingers I figured I would spend a few bucks and get it fixed. In about 30 seconds Billy from B & D Repair (highly recommended if you are in the Phoenix area) said in all reality this was a money pit that would never get anywhere.After a good discussion of what my playing level was and where I wanted to go with my guitar experience he recommended the Yamaha FG700S as a top level entry instrument.Immediately after picking the guitar up my playing improved, mainly due to the strings actually being close to the fret board as opposed to a few inches away. I have been playing it pretty solidly every day for the past 4 months and have really enjoyed this guitar.Sound stays true during light strumming as well as through hard and fast pieces. Great bundle
Bought this for my 15yo son's birthday. He has been wanting to learn and this bundle seemed like it would have everything he needed to get started except a tutorial book. He took this guitar over to his friend's house and all the guys were impressed with the quality of the guitar, but of course they had to tease him because his mom didn't buy him electric... (but they admit that they all learned on acoustic, so he is doing just fine and on the right track).This is a beautiful guitar that looks like it will last many years with proper care. All the included items were of good quality and seemed like they would last awhile until he needs upgraded in a couple of years. This is a much better deal than anything we had available in our local music store. Shipping was very fast and everything was well packed. I would feel comfortable buying from Kraft Music again.I am so glad I chose the hard case over the soft one that is in a different auction.. totally worth...

Great Bundle
After figuring out which guitar I wanted I found this bundle. Wonderful bundle, gave me everything I needed to get started. The CD was ok as a quick start set up CD. I just loved the fact that for the price, I got a guitar, picks, cleaning/polishing kit, strap, tuner, stand, extra set of strings, string winder, and case (I didn't get the Capo). The guitar alone costs $199, and after pricing hard cases for my husband, they ran around $60+, stands are about $10+ etc. I think it's a great buy, price each one separately, you'll see. Great guitar great bundle. I love my Yamaha, great guitar although I'm a newbie.

GREAT DEAL
I just started playing Guitar and after seaching around the internet i found this steal of a guitar. I paid 179.99 from amazon and it shipped free and seeing as im in Iraq thats awsome. Ayway the guitar is very easy to play action isnt to high and its easy to get a clean sound from, tunning is also no problem usualy the top two strings need to be a little tighter after sitting over night but thats about it. The tuner is very helpful and the dvd while not very exciting does have a great cord dictionary thats very helpful to me. Over all for the money i think this is a awsome package the only peice of the package that isnt awsome is the gig bag and at this price who cares the gig bag they give you is just that a bag no padding or anything of that sort.

Great Deal!
Beautiful guitar, fast shipping...what more can you ask for? My son took guitar in school this year and was hooked. Great guitar
I purchased this guitar for my young sons taking lessons but this guitar is just as playable for an adult as for a child. Their guitar teacher was very impressed by the sound and construction of the guitar and the kit bag was actually a pretty good little bag.

Good Value in a Smaller Guitar
One of the other reviewers complained that their guitar teacher called this a "1/4 sized guitar" and it appeared that they felt they had gotten a bad deal. No, it is a 3/4 sized guitar - this is based on scale length and not overall size of the guitar - but it is small. This guitar has a 21 1/4" scale (normal is about 26" but it varies), a 12 1/2" lower bout and a 9" upper bout. This places it in the parlor size category, more or less, and it fits a child well.This is a fully functioning guitar with a solid spruce top, decent craftsmanship, and an adjustable truss rod. The action is acceptable (although it needs setup at the nut) and the tone is, well, there. You are never going to confuse the Yamaha FG JR1 for a $3000 Taylor. It is a $120 guitar. The main virtues are its size, playability, and price. For that $120 you get a well made, well designed small guitar suitable for all ages with enough tone and volume to hold its own in a small group. You can take it...

Not sure if you'll keep playing? Buy this kit. Otherwise, consider buying individual components.
I'd never played guitar until I bought this one last month, so I can't compare this to others, but it's a great deal for the price. Yamaha quality and consistency are worth the few extra dollars you'll spend over cheap starter guitars.If you're buying this as a gift for a beginner who has nothing, this is probably an awesome deal. If you're buying this for yourself, the extras may not be worth the extra money, unless you're a complete beginner who isn't sure if you'll stay with it, in which case the DVD alone is probably worth it.Concerning the glue issue raised by another reviewer, mine did not have any unsightly extra glue squeezed out from where the neck extends onto the body. Great sound - Slightly poor worksmanship, Bad Case
I got this guitar to replace my Mitchell guitar based on reviews.The price was good.Also, it is the Yamaha brand name.The sound, I was told by my teacher, was very good and he said it was a good buy.The tuner is OK....better to buy a Korg tuner from Amazon.Haven't tried the DVD yet.I have only two complaints:1) The bag, as pointed out by another review, is very flimsy. It has no straps, no padding. It just has a carry handle. You would want to buy another gig bag2) The worksmanship is lacking at certain points....e.g. where the neck extends on to the body of the guitar, you see glue that was squeezed out from under. I am a stickler for aesthetics. Some people are not bothered with such stuff.OVERALL A VERY GOOD GUITARPS - You might want to check out the GigMaker Deluxe...similar guitar but has a solid spruce top and is only $10-$20 extra. I did not know about it otherwise would have bought that...

A well made guitar, very good price
I am an experienced guitar player, and I own quite a few guitars already. I bought this guitar to play while I am deployed to Africa, rather than bringing one of mine with me. I was immediately impressed with the both the guitar and the case. Years ago, I would have never bought a "cheap" Yamaha beginner guitar, due to inferior playability and construction. Let me assure you, the modern Yamaha beginner guitar is a far cry from the old junk. This is a well made instrument. It keeps its tune very well, and the action on the guitar is well adjusted from the factory. I have thoroughly enjoyed playing this guitar for the past few weeks. I am actually very suprised by the level of craftsmanship that this guitar has, considering the price. There is no fret buzz, no neck imperfections, no "fret drag" at the edge of the neck where the hand meets it while playing. A bone bridge and nut would certainly improve the sound of this guitar, but make it more expensive. The sound is very...
