Selmer = industry standard
As a professional woodwind instructor and player, I usually recommend the Selmer C* mouthpiece to all of my students as their first "step up" from the beginner's mouthpiece that came with their horn. When they buy or rent a saxophone, especially these cheap new Chinese/Taiwanese horns like "First Act" or other brands, the mouthpiece that comes with the horn is usually substandard, usually plastic, and is barely sufficient for the beginner to get a sound out of the horn. Even so, a good mouthpiece can assuage some of the difficulties caused by an el-cheapo instrument.Obviously, every student should always have the best possible equipment at his/her disposal, but even if the cost prohibits a student from buying a top-of-the-line pro horn, they should still invest the money in a top quality mouthpiece. The mouthpiece and embochure form the foundation to tone production, and a good mouthpiece will make it possible to learn to produce a decent tone on even the worst-quality...

GREAT MOUTH PIECE
Finally, my first review... Shipping was lightning fast and this mouth piece really sings. I was told my several alto players that this was a great piece. Sure enough, it definitely beats my generic mouth piece that came with the alto. It plays well with 2 1/2!

Vintage reissue mouthpiece lives up to the original
I am a professional musician with over 30 years of experience on woodwind instruments (20 years of playing professionally) and I've played Otto Link mouthpieces for most of that time. I also own an original early Babbitt Link moutpiece -- for years, that was my favorite piece to play on tenor; now this one is. It's even, with good intonation and a good dynamic range. The ideal mouthpiece is one that allows the player to achieve his/her desired tone with the least amount of uncomfortable or unnatural change in embouchure, and this piece definitely does that. Warm and breathy or bright and edgy, this mouthpiece makes it easy to get there. But let me again emphasize that selecting a mouthpiece should be about finding the piece that allows the player the most control over his/her sound. Players who choose a mouthpiece in order to change or improve their sound are putting the cart before the horse. Find your desired sound first, and then pick a mouthpiece that makes it easy to get that...
