Just what a beginner needs!
The Guitar looks great and holds the tune very good! Im actually a beginner and don't know much about guitars, but i've had several friends tell me that the guitar is great and i take their word for it! Very pleased with the Guitar and it's sound is great, so i was told!

Nice entry-level guitar
Bought this guitar for my daughter as she was showing interest in learning how to play. When it arrived I was impressed by the quality of construction and the over-all attention to manufacturing detail. She was impressed by the sound and although I also purchased a set of 'easy' strings as she calls them, they were not needed as the strings that came attached were flexible enough not to cause finger pain.I had searched for quite some time to get a guitar for her and I have to admit I was tempted by a few which were cheaper but poor reviews here on Amazon swayed me the other way. I am very satisfied with this purchase because my daughter is satisfied and I would recommend this instrument to anyone looking for a beginners guitar.Next comes a case...

Exactly what I expected
Prior to purchasing this I did go to local stores and tried this and other entry level guitars. With no experience what so ever on guitar I had a vague idea of what I cared about. It had to fit, it had to sound good to me, and I had to like the look. In the end the DR-100 won out. I have owned it about a week at this point, I can play 2 chords correctly and 4 others correctly if I am extremely slow, and I know that I went the right direction. This guitar works for someone learning. It does stay in tune without major issues. Even having to re-tune each day takes very little adjustment. You WILL want to buy strings and swap them out. I could hear the issues more experienced players were pointing out and a $5 set of medium strings made that disappear immediately. I do think that the strings are a bit higher than a couple others I tried, but my feeling after a week of playing it is that this forces me to be careful and make sure where I am positioning my fingers (more...

best parlor guitar series under $1000
I saw this in my local guitar shop and the looks stopped me in my tracks--and I usually don't value the appearance of a guitar very much. It's all about opinion, but I consider this simple look honest and stunning. I picked it up, and within thirty seconds knew I was leaving the store with it. Seriously.Warm, woody, rich, and delicate tone. Not like any guitar I've ever played before. Surprising amount of volume can be coaxed out of it, it responds so well to a light touch, then gives you more and more as you demand it. Small, comfortable to hold. I love the v-shaped neck, I adjusted to it immediately. This guitar just has so much character, both physically and sonically. I personally love the distressed appearance. The vintage-design tuners work fine. This is my go-to instrument for a lot of fingerstyle, I avoid taking a pick to it.I will play this thing until I die. It will look particularly good on my when I'm old and crumbly.

Comfortable playing guitar
I was very happy with this guitar. Good quality regarding the edge and joining work and I actually like the "vintage" look of the finish. I had been looking for a parlor (under $1000) but was hesitant about buying this online because of the wider V neck. I finally decided to just go for it and am very happy with my decision. It is much easier to find the string for finger picking and chording and while the neck is a little wider across the fretboard, it is also narrower in neck depth. I have slightly smaller (but still manly) hands and have not problem quickly forming bar chords up and down the neck. The action is fairly low and almost reminds me of my electric. As far as sound goes, it is a small guitar and I have light strings on it. Probably wouldn't be the best for putting on a concert but for leaning back and playing on the couch, it is perfect.

Beautiful
I love this guitar. I checked the guitar for fret buzzing. No buzzing at all. That was my first criteria.I then checked the sound. It was pretty good. That was my second criteria. Then I played for a while. I loved it. Things you should know: The neck is V shaped and wider than an Acoustic Guitar but not as wide as a Classic Guitar; G7th performance capo works fine because it has wedges on the curved part; It's very light; looks pretty good; the sound is very good I was actually surprised; it was made in Indonesia. I'm not a technical guy regarding guitars. I just got a very good model. Some guitar's stores have it. If you are too crazy about buying a Guitar online try it at your local store first. I took a chance!

Learn to play the system
You guys gotta learn how to play the system to your advantage. I use these in with my Taylor, and yes they will run out, but I made a water humidifier using a small plastic container(with holes drilled), a sponge, and a velvet bag to go along with the Humidipak. Remember the humidipaks take up excess humidity as will as release it. The humidipaks essentially control the humidity by absorbing the excess put out by my homemade sponge humidifier, and when the sponge dries up I have the humidipaks there as a backup. Mine have lasted for well over a year this way.I have also recharged these by placing the humidipaks in an unsealed plastic bag and then placing that in a sealed plastic bag along with a really damp sponge for a couple of weeks.

Regeneration
I purchased this system in November 0f 2011. Living in the desert southwest, the packs would only last me about 3-4 weeks at most and I kept my Martin case closed at all times. Obviously, this would lead to a expensive humidification solution. Since this is a 2-way humidification and dehumidification system, I decided to experiment with several methods to regenerate the packs. What worked best for me was to use a small and large "Tupperware type" container. I placed the small container inside the larger container and placed three packs in the space between the small and large container. I then partially filled the small container with distilled water and tightly sealed the large container with its lid (leaving the small container open). I then carefully set it aside so not to spill any water and damage the packs. A sponge could also be used to contain the water. WIthin 3 days the packs had been regenerated and I placed them back in the original zip lock package for later use...

Good Product, Expensive Upkeep
I purchased this product because I did not want to hastle with having a water-based humidifier in an expensive guitar (Breedlove Pro D25/SR Herringbone) nor did I want to monitor the inaccurate readings of a hygrometer. I read some online reviews about the Humidipack System and made the investment. For five weeks of winter, the system has worked well. The action and tone of the guitar has remained identical to what it was in summer months. There are no signs of the top changing in any way due to lack of humidity. My main concern is longevity of the packs, thus my "3 star" rating. I installed the system on November 10, 2009 and by Christmas, the pack was rock hard, needing replacement. The packaging says the packs will last 2-4 months, but that can't be so. We've had a relatively warm and wet winter where I live and I open the guitar case one average once a day. Even still the pack only lasted 6 weeks. I am moving to Las Vegas this summer and I cannot imagine how...

Customer Review

Better than I even hoped
I sing lead vocals for a 20-piece Big Band, and I also own a Web business for which I do audio recording; so, I wanted a mic that works well for both applications. The Shure mic exceeds my expectations. From a live perspective, the mic does a great job of clearly picking up the lows and mids in my voice. It gives a very true representation of my tone, and doesn't accentuate plosives at all -- even when the volume is cranked up. I've gotten lots of compliments from musicians who can't believe how inexpensive the mic is for the quality. Plus, it looks FANTASTIC on stage.Recording is great, too. It picks up vocals without pulling in too much ambient noise. It has a warm, well-rounded sound.I love this mic!

Feels great and works great
This mic feels great in your hands, has a lot of heft and makes its presence known. For long periods of singing you better get a stand for this thing. The sound is great as it picks up everything. You'll want some type of digital filter to help block out all the background it can grab. The only complaint is that while you are holding it, it is easy to switch it off as there is no way to lock it into the on position. So be careful there.Otherwise, higly recommended. great mic.

Good Enough For The King Of Rock 'n Roll
The Shure 55SHII is the direct decendant of the original Shure 55 that Elvis made famous. That first 55 was actually much bigger than the following models and was affectionately called the "bird cage". I have a couple of those large 55s in my mic collection.Today's 55SHII takes the second, scaled down model, adds an on/off switch and has updated the mic capsule to a quieter, more modern sounding cardiod pattern, which helps control feedback while onstage near monitors or front of house speakers. The recent line that I've seen don't have the fit and finish that the originals have, but they still have that same classic look. And they sound even better today. So if it's the classic rock 'n roll look you want, there's really no other mic to get. Grab a couple of Shure 55SHII "Elvis" mics while they are still making them. If nothing else, they will look cool sitting on your desk or a shelf of memorabilia!
