I bought these through a different online store for my daughter, she swears by them for the beginner.She has moved on a bit since then and has tried many of the major brands but came back to the Vandoren. She has used 3 types of Vandoren the Traditional when she first started, the 56 rue Lepic, and now the V.12 as it fits her style of playing.Vandoren clarinet reeds are consistent in quality and have a good life.Well worth buying

Excellent reeds for beginners
I bought these reeds with a brand new Selmer prelude clarinet hoping I could teach myself to play the clarinet and get the nice tone I wanted.BUT then I was afraid that I made a wrong purchase because I've been hearing that Vandorens are harder to play on and that they're actually half a strength harder than the other brands so I also purchased 2.5 and 2.0 Rico Royal reeds. 2.0 just sounded so buzzy. 2.5 was okay but it felt too soft on my mouth and looking at my tuner, the notes came out a bit flat. I finally decided to open my 2.5 strength Vandorens (and it is true that it is thicker and stiffer by a very very veeeery small margin) and after wetting the reed for about a minute in my mouth, it sounded so great! I played a perfectly pitched full scale the very very first time I tried it! I've had the clarinet for an hour and the Vandorens on for 15 minutes and I've picked up basic tunes already.

Great beginning reeds!
These reeds are very easy to work with, and they also maintain a good quality sound. For beginners this is an excellent purchase, though as time goes on of course you have to switch to higher reeds.

Sound nice, with great price
These are $34.00+tax here where I live. Can't beat this price, even on ebay. I will continue to buy them here for my daughter. These are a big upgrade from the Rico's she started with last year. Thank you Amazon for making music affordable.

Great Brand
Personally, I use the Vandoren V-12 #4.0 as a Music Education graduate. My cousin who is in high school uses the 3.5 and sounds great. Good quality and great price here on Amazon!!!

These reeds give a very nice, warm, and dark sound. It's very easy to articulate with them. They also break in very easily, and are very consistent. These reeds also last very long. I LOVE THESE REEDS. V12 FOR LIFE

Extremely happy customer!!
These reeds give me that beautiful dark tone, characteristic of the clarinet, but unfortunately they are a little bit more expensive than a regular Vandoren reed. Thanks to Amazon though, I was able to buy them at such a reasonable price! I've searched EVERYWHERE and this is the cheapest price you can find them at! It's definitely worth those few extra dollars!

Music in the Air
We get these reeds for my daughter that plays the Clarinet. We have been getting Vandoren since half way through her first year and absolutely love them. They perform better, they hold up long, and even though they cost more than Ricco, they are around alot longer.If you have a clarinet player that is serious about being good, use this brand reed.

Great reeds
These reeds are wonderful. I purchased them for my son who plays clarinet in the 8th grade band. These are the reeds his band instructor preferred. He gets a nice tone using these reeds and they last longer than other reeds we have used. The box of 10 are decently priced and should last quite awhile.

Dark and Wonderful
These reeds are darker and more balanced than the traditional Vandoren reeds. I like the wide cut - it feels more substantial. My tone in the clarino register is very rich and it makes me want to play slow and with lots of emphasis... exactly the type of response you want from your instrument - some kind of inspiration.

I like these more than other brands
I first bought Rico, since Amazon suggested them and, being new to the clarinet, I had not heard of Vandoren. I now use both Rico and Vandoren in my reed rotation and look forward to the Vandorens each time they come up to use. As a beginner, I feel like I have more control without having to force it. The notes sound better than the Rico. Overall, I am sticking with Vandoren and once my Ricos wear out, I will not buy those again. A couple extra bucks is just worth it...Not a big deal, but the picture with this product (as of March 5, 2011) shows #3's, but you get #2's when ordering from this page.

Great for Bulgarian
I play clarinet in a 6-member international folk music band. The softer reed is great for the emotionality and the quality of the Vandoren allows me to get pretty high (a 2 1/2 gets full range but I rarely practice enough to have enough breath to make it through the long tunes) and it lets me be more articulate if I need to. I also really love that they come individually wrapped so I can always tell if a reed is new (I try to always keep at least one backup broken-in reed, so if I'm lazy with labeling them, confusion can ensue.)
