As Good As It Gets
The Yamaha Arius YDP-V240 home digital piano is as good as it gets, short of being a Clavinova. I can't wait to get mine. I went to a music store about an hour's drive from my home to choose a digital piano. My main keyboard is an eight-year-old Yamaha DGX500, which was the closest I could come to owning a Clavinova at the time. The DGX500 has a lot of nice features, but it still performs and sounds like a keyboard, as opposed to a digital piano. The moment I sat down at the Arius I found it a true joy to play. It was sitting next to a CVP503 Clavinova, which I also played for comparison. The piano sample in the Clavinova was slightly better than the Arius, but not by much. There was also a slight difference between the Graded Hammer Standard and the Graded Hammer touch, but again, not by much. People talk about the Graded Hammer Standard mechanism being noisy. Perhaps it depends on how one plays and the type of music one plays. I didn't find...

Better Than Many Acoustic Pianos
I have played on many different acoustic pianos in the last forty years. I admit I was a snob about digital pianos, I didn't believe there was one anywhere that could compare to a good acoustical piano. I had only had experience with some inexpensive keyboards that were lacking, to say the least. I did play a friend's digital piano about 4 years ago that had weighted keys, but it was not very impressive at all. I planned to keep my good console piano forever. However, moving into a smaller place made piano downsizing a must; there just wasn't room for my beloved console piano. So I went shopping for digital pianos, and I was amazed to find so many good choices that are out there today. Things had changed dramatically since I had played my friend's digital with the weighted keys. I discovered the Yamaha's and fell in love with the graded hammer action, I can't believe how much like a real piano the touch is. And for me the touch is everything, that's what makes this...

Graded Hammer Standard (GHS) Keyboard with Matte Black Key Finish

Just as on a traditional acoustic piano, the keys of the lower notes have a heavier touch, while the higher ones are more responsive to lighter playing. The keyboard's sensitivity can be further adjusted to match your playing style, allowing an authentic--and personalized--touch in a lightweight instrument. The black keys boast a matte finish, just to add to the keyboard's luxurious looks.

Advanced Wave Memory (AWM) Dynamic Stereo Sampling

AWM (Advanced Wave Memory) is a sampling system that efectively captures the realism of an acoustic instrument through digital recording and high-quality filter technology. An acoustic piano's sound differs greatly depending on the playing strength - from pianissimo to fortissimo. AWM Dynamic Stereo Sampling helps mimic that dynamic nuance--the greater the number of samples used, the higher the expression.

Realistic and Dynamic Sounds

Yamaha's highly acclaimed "Sweet" and "Cool" Voices deliver natural and very dynamic sound, with a wealth of voices to choose from--brass, strings, organs, synths, and more.

This instrument is set up with 131 voices (plus 361 XGlite voices) and 12 percussion kits, complete with 64-note polyphony.

DSP Effects

238 types of DSP (Digital Signal Processor) effects can be added to the Main and Dual Voices. These range from reverb-like ambience effects to distortion and other dynamic processing tools. Enhance your sound, or completely transform it.

Yamaha YDP-V240 Screen
Intuitive key controls with a 4.6-inch LCD display.
Yamaha YDP-V240 With Bench
Bench is included.
Easy Song Arranger

Each song has a default style, but the Easy Song Arranger feature lets you turn that on its head. This means that you can play a song that is normally a ballad as a swing jazz song, as a hip-hop tune, etc. Create totally different arrangements by changing the style of a song (you can also change the song's melody voice and keyboard voice for a complete makeover).160 different styles are on-board, along with 30 preset songs.

Performance Assistant Technology (P.A.T.)

Play along with a song on the instrument's keyboard and produce a perfect performance every time... even if you play the wrong notes! Just keep in time with the music, and you'll sound like a pro. It's nice to take a break from learning every so often.

Music Database plus External Files

You want to play music in your favorite genre, but you're not sure how to select the best Voice and Style for the type of music you want to play... simply select the desired title from the Music Database and the panel settings will automatically be adjusted for the ideal combination of style/voices. Furthermore, this instrument can access Music Database files transferred from a computer or stored on a USB flash memory device. These files can be used right along side the internal Music Database titles.

USB-Enabled

The USB TO DEVICE port on the instrument allows you to connect USB memory devices such as flash drives or hard drives, enabling you to save or load registrations and user songs created on the instrument, as well as read data from the connected device such as MIDI files or Style files.

The USB TO HOST feature lets you dive in and take advantage of the wide world of computer music software. Computer connections and setup are exceptionally easy, and you can play back your computer-recorded parts with different instrument sounds--all from a single digital piano.

Dual Headphone Output

The dual headphone jacks are perfect for lessons, duets, and other applications.

Fun for years to come
I've had spinet and baby grand acoustic pianos and own a Roland xp-80. I wanted something that would fit into my snallish livingroom, that would have good acoustic piano sound and feel, as well as being a fun machine for entertaining. This fits the bill nicely. Easily assembled with two people, good sound and volume and loads of extras. The only reason I'm not rating it a 5 is that I believe Yamaha should have put the GH or GHE action instead of the GHS. The GHS is a little sluggish, but then it is NOT an acustic piano, so I know the two instruments play and feel a bit different.

Great piano and wonderful customer service
The piano is very cute and my 18 month old niece LOVES it! It works wonderfully and is a great toy. It is a bit of a tinky sound to it, but let's remember, it's a toy. When I bought it, one of the legs of the stool didn't fit up to the holes in the seat. I contacted the company through amazon and they gave me an entirely new stool already put together. Oh speaking of, that's probably the only downside to this product, it didn't come with directions to put it together. But it wasn't hard at all and easy to figure out. I definitely recommend this product.

You just have to remember... it's a toy!
I was not a happy camper when I opened up the box and saw this product. There are no instructions included in putting this together... i am a single mother and i am NOT that great with assembly (lol). The keys shift back and forth and the "label" for the keys is way too long for the keyboard itself. However, i did not throw the box out of the window like i originally wanted. I did have someone come over and put this together for me. No, the sound is not as "perfect" as they describe it. It's more chimey than anything. But for the price and shipping, you get what you pay for. My daughter doesn't know the difference and she absolutely loves it. If you want a better sound, i'd suggest going with a more expensive model, but for my 12 month old, this is perfect. It's just a toy!

Definitely worth it for this price
This digital piano looks great, and sounds even better. I am glad I bought it. I was looking for good quality without spending thousands, and that's what I got. I feel very positively about the instrument. It offers what I wanted: a few basic voices (I mostly just wanted a good piano sound- it offers 3 of them), and a very high quality sound. (The negatives, and these are minor for most players: I often use a very light touch on the keys...the 3 piano voices do not pick that up too well, even though the instrument has touch sensitivity options. Much like some baby grand pianos, I have to strike the keys a little harder to get sound, which is not my style. For most players though, this will not even be an issue. Another negative is that the sustain pedal does not have as heavy as a sustain on the piano sounds as I would like... again, this is something relative to my style of playing and will not affect most players. Plus,...

    Not Reviewed by a Professional
I'm certainly not a professional, however, I do know what a piano is supposed to sound like, and I know the difference between a Harpsichord, Organ, and a Harmonica: 'nuff said. First of all I would like to say that the Williams Digital Piano is by far the best instrument I have ever owned, next to my toy, an old Casio keyboard that I owned for quite some time, I was happy to finally sell that off in a garage sale. When I went hunting for another piano, I took my Sony headphones and headed off to various stores with digital pianos. This one by far sounded the closest to a real upright piano (Well, the Yamaha was closer, but another 1K more expensive...), and it had the features and look I was wanting. Pros --- 1. The weighted digital piano keys mimic perfectly the hammer-action of a real piano, and the sound is equally amazing. As I said I tested it out in headphones, and even at home in total silence the headphones are clear as anything and sound...

    Poor customer support
I bought this piano (open box) from a local music store for quite a bit under comparable models from Casio and Yamaha. The good thing about the piano is it looks nice. Good accent furniture when not in use. It has three pedals like real pianos and the sound and action seemed good to my son who has been playing piano for four years. The piano is over hundred pounds and the materials used for wood looking parts is not of very good quality but this was also the case for Casio's and Yamaha's. When I brought the piano home I noticed that the foot pedal cable missing. I went to Williams Piano web site and guess what no phone number for customer support (red flag). They just have an e-mail address for support questions. Despite writing a couple of e-mails I received no reply's to get a replacement foot pedal cable. The piano has a 1 year warranty but I am not sure how one would claim warranty coverage given that you can't even get hold of customer support? I eventually...

Quality Construction, Lots of Features for the Money - UPDATED June 2011
After years of playing my Yamaha DGX-500, I was looking to upgrade my digital piano to something that had graded hammer action, that would look nice in my living room, and that sounded as close to an acoustic piano as possible. I also wanted to spend around a thousand bucks. The Casio AP420, seemed to fit the bill, and having played other Casio digital pianos in my local music store (PX800, PX330, AP200), I was fairly confident in making this purchase from Amazon, sight-unseen. The mangled box arrived in less than a week, looking like it had fallen off the truck or had been used for target practice. I was almost afraid to look inside. Fortunately, the engineers who designed the packaging did a marvelous job. Every piece was removed from the box in perfect condition. Assembly of the piano was not difficult, took less than an hour, and really did require two people. The cabinet of the AP420 is quite attractive. I like the sliding keyboard cover, and...

To be brief, at $1000 range, this is the best digital piano one can get in 2010. Very well built. Feature-wise it matches $2000+ Yahama models. Yes the speakers are not ideal, as expected. But they are fully usable for beginners. With a set of earphone the sound is perfect.

it's a good purchase, would recommend
i don't play the digital music. i need a digital piano because i live in an apartment, this is easier to move, and i can wear headsets when playing in the middle of the night, and very important, it's affordable to me. i did some research about different brands of digital pianos. people are talking about yamaha is good. when talking about casio, the general review is that casio wasn't good before, but it's catching up fast these years. so i went down to couple of dealers to give it a try. considering the sound, key touch, price, i decided to buy this model. i tried another series, not celviano, from casio, even more expensive, but the touches is not as good as this one. and the sound is good at both low and high pitches. an equivalent model for yamaha is selling around 1800 + tax. i personally don't feel like spending 800$ for the brand. i do play acoustic pianos at school. i have to say that the key touch is still different. it cannot compare with the upright ones, and...
