A review in one word: "Smooth"
Smooth the the touch. Smooth to the ear.Takamine's model designation for this is 'S35'. In my estimation, the 'S' must stand for 'solid', 'smooth', 'superb', 'special' or just plain 'sweet'.This guitar seems to be perfect for a beginner or amateur/recreational player. The construction and overall quality are very impressive. From the solid fit and finish to the easy to tune/maintain hardware - this guitar is top notch.Looks-wise, the finish is darker than pictured and is matte not glossy. The finish will not show finger prints like a gloss-finished black bargain basement model. This is one good looking instrument that looks like it cost far more than it does. It features a warm, rich wood tone exterior. The sound produced by the guitar is brilliant and warm. In terms of playing, the action doesn't seem to be too high as indicated in other reviews. I find this to be a very easy instrument to play and keep in tune...

Takamine S35 Guitar
This is my third guitar. They have all been entry level instruments, and it seems as fast as I buy them I give them to my children. This one I will keep. This is by far the best guitar of the previous two, and thinking back the least expensive. I cannot believe how well-made this instrument is, with close attention to detail. There were no short-cuts taken when assembling this guitar, those small details that usually distinguish entry level instuments. I would recommend this guitar to anyone.

Good Beginner's Guitar
This is a nice beginner's guitar. The action is kind of high, so you will earn your calluses quickly. I bought mine from GearTree through Amazon, and it arrived quickly in great condition. However, consider buying directly from a vendor's website, because some offer free shipping when you buy directly. Then you can buy a decent case or a strap as well, and for the same price as shipping would have cost you. Also, get an inexpensive tuner as well - you will be playing the day it arrives!

Customer Review

This guitar DOES have a BIG SOUND for a small price
I was thrilled when my guitar arrived and even more so after I tuned it and began to play.My guitar is absolutely beautiful. The finish is flawless. And it's got that new guitar smell...ahhhhhh.It does have a pick guard (that is not shown in the photo on any website or in any catalog) which pleases me. It would be a shame to scratch the surface while strumming with a heavier pick. I read one review on a music vendor's website where the reviewer complained about Takamine and Jasmine printed all over the pick guard. And they were right about that...but I found it very easy to remove all these words by simply peeling off this protective sticker. Dah.The strings are a little heavier than I like but I'll be changing them in a few weeks anyway. The sound and craftsmanship is anything but what you would expect from such an affordable guitar and everything you'd expect to pay more for. It has a rich, full bodied sound.I am now a...

Great guitar for the price!
I normally don't write reviews, but this is an exception because I've been so pleased with this guitar. To be up-front, I didn't buy this through Amazon, but instead through a local retailer, at a similar price. To prep you for what I'm about to say, what I write is absolutely true, and from the heart of a pleased customer.Starting at age 13, I've been playing steel string guitar now for the last 37 years. When I was 16, I loved guitar playing so much that I committed to save up an entire summer's worth of life guard wages to buy myself a Martin D-35 guitar. I did so, and still have and love this guitar today - my main guitar.A while ago, I was at a local music store waiting for a non-guitar related service of some kind, and while I was waiting, I pulled a few guitars from the hangers on the wall, and messed around with some of my stock guitar riffs and pieces I know.Among those guitars was this Jasmine S34C guitar. I was really impressed...

Customer Review

Great guitar for the value!
Age: 16I've always wanted to learn guitar and after I got a summer job, I finally was able to purchase an instrument to learn on. Let me start off by mentioning I'm a classically trained musician in piano and keyboard percussion, so I have a bit of know-how about instruments. I played around with a few "higher end" guitars at shops when I was trying to figure out what to get. I honestly can not tell any difference in tone quality between those high end guitars and this one. The tone is warm, resonant, and full; something I didn't expect from such a cheap guitar. The appearance is probably the only difference. This guitar isn't flashy by any means, but the smooth wood is very nice to the touch. It is also a matte finish, which I prefer to a gloss finish. It came packaged securely. The tuner works well also (comes with batteries). Overall, I'm happy with this purchase.

A Great Deal.
My guitar arrived here in Afghanistan today after only a WEEK. It is in perfect condition. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that the picks that were supposed to come with it didn't. Thats not really a problem, $3.50 value. Its a very nice guitar for the price. fretboard feels good and the strings aren't horrible. I would buy some extra sets of strings, but that is true for any guitar. This is not a beautifully finished guitar but it still looks great. I bought this because I needed something that wasn't expensive so I wouldn't have to worry about it getting beat up here in Afghanistan. Overall, my impression is that this is a real guitar for an inexpensive price. Buy yourself one!

The Guitar Is O.K. And Thats All...
You hear people saying that this guitar is great. Its just Ok. And thats all. In the first place, the prouduct dimensions stated about this guitar are Incorrect! Its not 5.5 x 18 x 41.8. It's 4 3/4 x 15.5 x 41.5. That's what it really is! I was dissapointed by that! I was expecting a deeper bass sound. It wasn't there. The product dimension sizes fooled me. So I had to tell this. Thats either false advertising, or a mistake. It wasn't as thick and solid as one might think it should be either. It feels Very fragile. The real value of this guitar is 60 dollars. I also didnt get the assesories that were advertised to come with it. And thats the truth. So be careful guys.

A strong rhythm guitar, with great lower range
This guitar is a popular choice for teachers in the non-profit Guitars in the Classroom program here in Tucson. Kaman provides these and Applause guitars for free for our program, but these, by far, have superior sound for strumming and leading students in classroom singing. They stay in tune (Open G) are easy to play and make musicians of amateurs quickly. Buy ONe

Great For The Price
I read reviews on this guitar; all were great, but there was only one on amazon which happen to be a 5 star review, all the rest I checked were with other mechants and they were all unananomus in positive reviews. The first thing that I noticed is how beautiful and apearantly perfect this guitar looked, but it also played very well once in tune. This guitar made me hear the differance between a really high quality guitar and an inferior one, yet it was not very expensive. Believe me, I've been looking for the cheapest of all high quality guitar and this is it!!!

great price for a great guitar
The strings do suck, but the sound you get from the guitar is awesome!!! When I opened the box and started tuning, I noticed the 'A' string looked like it was frayed. Not a big issue since the easy fix is to buy new strings. The guitar however, sounds AMAZING.

Great sound and playability
I recently purchased this guitar because of some good reviews that I had read, and also for its appearance. After receiving this guitar...I am happier with my purchase than I thought I would be. I have owned a Washburn D10S and a Takamine GS330S and neither look, sound, or play as well as this one. I am a beginner, but know a great product...this is it!

I learned how to play on this guitar and, after 6 years, I Still Use it.
I've own this guitar for about 6 years now. I bought it when I was 16, after scrounging up all the cash I had. At 23 I can honestly that I'm glad I made the decision back then to buy this instrument. I learned to play on this instrument and still perform live with it. It's hard to justify buying a new guitar. It has withstood these 6 years, has developed some nice wear to it and has even, i would say, sounded better with age.My biggest gripe with this guitar is the finish; it's too thick and affects the tone. This guitar has a thin, airy sound to it, but when I replaced the plastic bridge pins to boxwood ones it helped the tone drastically. The value of this product is its intonation and playability; you can play bar chords all the way up the fretboard and they will still be in tune. Tuners are perfect, they keep tune for days sometimes, but temperature and other factors will affect the tuning.I've recently have been playing a classical guitar because I dont...

sweet
I am just learning guitar but, so experienced friends suggested the G340. Six months later i can play a few tunes and thought I was ready to get a more expensive guitar. I could not find one under $1000.00 that sounded better. I looked for about 2 weeks and for my ear it's not out there. For 300.00 or less this is hard to beat in sound and the quality of the material. This made me appreciate my guitar and it's a keeper. Even friends who play well are amazed at how this guitar sound and all agree it's a great deal. I keep it tuned and it sounds as good as my ears can hear.

I love it.
I have been playing guitar for 5 years now and this is the best guitar I could find for the price. It has a beautiful sound and the structure is sturdy. The finish is flawless and the abalone (shiny colored shell material) is amazing. The gold tuning keys are a nice touch too and actually are what prompted me to write this. Last night I leaped into my bed excited to sleep when there was a sudden intense pain on my left eyebrow. I immediately grabbed my head and when I pulled my hand away there was blood all over it. My eyebrow immediately became swollen just like when a boxer gets punched. It turns out my guitar was laying in my bed when I leaped and my eyebrow thought the D string's tuning key would be a comfy place to land. I picked the guitar up and checked to see if it had come out of tune from the force of my eyebrow gouging a hole in itself and it was still perfectly in tune. Get this guitar. Get the cutaway version though so you can reach all of the frets. And don't leave it in...

Excellent Product Excellent Service
I'm an intermediate player and own a Martin as well, this guitar rocks in terms of looks and playability. The sound is good too, works well for both rhythm and finger picking. And for the price point i dont think you'd get a better guitar. Ticks all the boxes. Came in excellent shape and the action was perfect right from the get go. Definitely a guitar you can carry around, not be worried about it yet thoroughly enjoy playing it

I played several different guitars when I started looking for a new guitar. The strings that come on the guitar are ok, but I went ahead and put a set of Martin MSP4200 strings on, and man it sounds great.

Probably not the best guitar for somebody who has been playing for years, but it's certainly good enough as a first guitar or for somebody who is a casual player. I looked at a lot of guitars before purchasing and found this to be the best value of any of them.
