A Solid Tool
The treading that connects the head to the handle striped rather quickly. A little J-B Weld fixed that. Other than that it's a solid tool.

If you want to LEARN about piano servicing, get this book.
Art Reblitz should be on the Christmas card list of many a piano technician for writing this book.In its pages you will find coverage of just about every aspect of piano tuning, repair and rebuilding- all presented in an easy to understand and follow format. From repinning flanges to setting temperaments, from fitting and drilling a new pinblock to proper let-off distance, it's all here.A number of years ago I decided to try my hand at rebuilding a player piano that I had come across. After searching for a good book on the subject, i came across Reblitz's book on Player Piano Rebuilding, and in the book he emphasized the importance of restoring the piano to as good a performace level as possible, as even the best restored player action could not make an old delapidated clunker sound good. So I bought the book I'm speaking of now, and it opened a whole new world and insight into the instrument. Now mind you, I had never had any personal instruction, nor had I taken any...

An excellent reference guide
This 6-star book is an encyclopaedia of piano repair/rebuilding/tuning. Without any previous knowledge of piano mechanics, I have managed to repair an old disintegrated German upright piano (ca.1900-1910) following Mr.Reblitz's instructions. I've found answers to all of my questions there. No "empty" paragraphs. Frankly, if I myself wrote such a book, I would feel that I lived my life not in vain.

Excellent item for anyone, thanks a lot.
I love the way this item looks, feels and works. However, the buyer has to be careful if he wants a more massive, down-to-Earth and holding-the-pin type. This wrench holds the upper and the middle portion of a tuning pin, thus it can be good on a rigid or narrower tuning pins. But it crafted very finely and it has advantage of access otherwise harder accessible pins on grands.

Customer Review

Great Tuner.
The Korg CA-1 is a chromatic tuner which allows you to tune in any key. It features a quarter-inch jack for input and a "+" and "-" key for tuning in another pitch close to what you're in. Say I was in G and wanted to go to G1. Hit the "+" button a couple times, and bam it's now calibrated for that pitch. It comes standard with a small condenser mic built in so you can tune a woodwind instrument, trumpet, acoustic guitar or small squirrel. Whatever you need to tune. Super simple and easy to use, Korg has a reputation for producing the best tuners on the market. Weather it's rackmount tuning you need or the cheap-o $20 CA-1 Korg has you covered. My first one worked until it was lost during a show. I am willing to put money down that it would have worked up until now when I needed to buy another. To the review that says it's "Tinny" sounding...Dude, that's stupid. It's a tuner. It doesn't have an OUTPUT! You plug in your guitar or bass and tune. You can't say that a tuner has...

Did a Good Job
I had ordered the CA1 and CA-40 at the same time, but received the CA1 first, so I used it to tune our baby grand Wurlitzer (first time ever for me to tune a piano). The CA1 worked well indicating whether a string was solid on the note (green only LED) indicated on the display, or off the note (green and red LEDs). The great thing about the red LEDs on either side of the green is they tell you whether to tighten the pin more (when red LED to left of green is lit, i.e., string too loose) or loosen the pin some (when red LED to right of green is lit, i.e., string too tight). The first pass of tuning the piano took five and half hours, but to be fair, the piano was grossly in need of a tune. The CA1 did not pick up the higher octaves or the lower octaves but if you are patient and have "a good ear," you can tune, by ear, the octaves outside of the CA1's range. The CA-40 picks up more octaves than the CA1 (see my review) which speeds up the tuning process, but the octaves outside of...

You can really do it! Learn how to tune a piano
This book is ancient, I think from the early 20th century, but still holds true and is an excellent and straight forward resource. As a pianist, it has been a revelation to understand how it is done, and even more fun to actually achieve a reasonable tuning myself (with a little help from my professional piano tuning friend.. OK, so I cheated a little...!). Highly recommended. To make life a little easier, I recommend getting a quality electronic (chromatic) tuner to tune the middle octave, after that use the octaves and 5ths to do the rest.Full marks to Dover - again. They provide a great collection of classics on music, especially piano related stuff. I think I have perhaps 5-6 books by this publisher.

So THAT'S how they do it!
I first read this book in 1973, after which I tuned--and tempered--a piano. What a kick! The book is old, but so are vibrations. I found the math to be un-necessary unless I chose to follow the author's logic or "play" with the figures. I recently re-read the book because I had forgotten the ideas behind "just" and "compromise" temperament. I found what I wanted, then continued to re-read the whole book again--though I skimmed over parts I remembered. If you want to become a piano tuner, you should either apprentice with one, or take a mail-order course offered in a detective magazine. If you want to know how it's done--and might like to try tuning your old upright for the sheer joy of it--this is your book--but don't touch grandma's Steinway, okay?Dover publishes a lot of old books, many of which have reverted to "public domain" and don't require royalty payments. That's no sin, and it's clearly reflected in their prices. As...

Piano Tuning

Ilya Elbert writes for  Boston Piano Tuner , a Piano tuning services company based in Boston MA. Play the key louder as it distributes the tension uniformly on the string which consequently assures a normally played tune. Being a piano player try to sense the movement of both string and the pin through the lever handle. If the bending pin is in the direction of string length, it will lengthen or shorten the string temporarily. No list of tips can replace the practice and dedication to learn anything, may it be playing piano or anything else. If you select a tip which is high on the pin, you are actually increasing the possibility of bending or marring of the pin. Do not tune a pin when the string is not sounding. The handle of the tuning lever must always be parallel to the strings. The short tip also gives a great feel which playing the piano.

And, even when we’ve thought that we could skip a year with our own piano, we scheduled it in to make it worth the tuner’s while.      Piano tuners are hard to come by here on the peninsula.

To make an appointment for piano tuning or to ask questions about price and other piano related questions, please call me at. Phone: 253-222-3496. Piano tuning expertly mastered using advanced technology that makes any type of piano sounds its best. I grew up working on pianos in my Dad’s shop and learned the trade which included complete overhauling of grand pianos and player pianos and even pump organs. I currently tune pianos in the Puget sound area of Washington State and I’m. available to serve your piano needs.

This quick guide will help you to learn about the basic tools and steps required to tune a piano but still it will not take place of the skills and methods of a professional piano tuner. Piano tuning cannot be learnt in a day, it requires lot of patience and training to tune it perfectly. These tools include tuning lever, 440 tuning forks, felt temperament strips and some rubber tuning mutes. A piano consists of over 250 strings holding under high tension, so it’s not an easy piece of cake to learn tuning a piano. Choosing the right tuning lever- Choose a tuning lever with a star tip instead of having a square tip to get additional flexibility. Basic tools- The foremost necessity to tune a piano is to buy the basic tools which can be easily got from any online tool suppliers or local retailers. All pianos release inharmonicity which can be different with different piano instruments. Tuning the temperament- Set the right temperament by using all the keys in middle octave in this way- F below middle C up to E above middle C. now press the key and see which of the hammer moves and then trace the string up according to the...
