Incredible value/ Awesome product...
I did a lot of research before choosing this keyboard. I looked at it at Fry's Electronics store but they only had the "demonstrator" and it was VERY, VERY used! Due to it's condition, they offered me the "killer" deal of a whopping 5% discount! I went to Amazon.com and found the exact same Yamaha model but, unlike the one at Fry's, the one from Amazon.com included a power adapter, a nice set of stereo headphones, AND a sturdy, adjustable stand...all at the same price. The value was incredible. The keyboard itself was awesome. I've played at playing the piano and various keyboards for over 50 years...always as a relaxing pastime and never devoting the time and practice needed to get "good". This Yamaha YPG-235 makes me GOOD! The built in styles, "voices", effects, etc., coupled with the ability to upload thousands of other sounds from the Internet via the built in USB port which connects it to your PC makes this the most advanced and awesome sounding instrument I've ever seen...

Replacement seems to work well
I received this keyboard on 2/2/11. As always, I was impressed with how quickly I received my order from Amazon.com. However, within minutes of setting up the keyboard, I noticed that two keys on the right side of the keyboard didn't work. One key simply didn't work AT ALL, and one key seemed to have a short and would only play after pressing it like 3 or 4 times in a row. Amazon is making it easy to return/exchange this keyboard, so I'm hopeful that the replacement is decent. However, after this experience and reading other reviews online of this exact problem, I am very concerned about the build quality of this keyboard, despite having heard good things over the years about Yamaha.I'll update this review after I receive the replacement in a week or so. Hopefully I won't have to switch to another brand, but Casio maybe the next one I look at (need to keep this purchase affordable).UPDATE: I received a replacement keyboard in record time: less than 2...

cheap piano substitute
Not bad. I'm pretty happy with the piano. Glad I got it, and would definitely buy it again. A few complaints to consider, but keep in mind I still rated it 4 stars. I'm just being picky here.Keys: very little resistance, therefore does not feel like a piano. Also, I have the impression the keys are narrower than piano keys. While this is not mathematically true, I still have that feeling. And when you're talking about fingers, feeling matters. I think the low resistance contributes to this. You can depress a key just by the side of your finger catching it. Now all this is not to say you can't learn. It's analogous to the difference between typing on a laptop keyboard and a full keyboard. The cogno/psycho/senso/motor skill totally translates over, you just have to get used to a different feel. The transition will seem disproportionately rough, but once you get used to it you will go back and forth fine, and practice on one will appreciate on the other.Range: You...

Great Keyboard!
I think this is a great keyboard. It has a wonderful sound, great features including the Yamaha Educational Suite (Y.E.S.) built in (includes these features: Listen & Learn, Timing, Waiting, Chord Dictionary).I am betting that the other negative reviews of the stand are because it was not put together right. I had mine together wrong for a couple weeks then yesterday took the keyboard off and looked at it and noticed the leg that was farthest from me (behind the other) had the support rest on top with the longer of its two sides coming towards me. This makes sense because that leg is further "away". Then I looked at the other one (the leg crossing closer to me) and it also had the longer side of the top rest coming towards me making the little plastic tab stops not align from side to side. I took out an allen wrench unscrewed the one holding that rest on and then flipped it around so the little tabs on the ends align with the opposite support rest. Now the slot on the...

Great little keyboard package
Turned out to be perfect for me. I love to play Bach and other baroque composers, so since they wrote for harpsichord and fortepiano (fewer keys than modern pianos), I can play everything they wrote on this 61-key Yamaha right here in my tiny apartment. This model has all the rhythm choices and instrument voices you could want without being so automatic that it feels like a toy. The headphones are a bonus when there's ambient city noise or it's late at night. Other reviewers had difficulty with the stand, but they must have assembled it incorrectly. The keyboard is designed to rest atop the crossbars, not fit into the stand in any way. Try sliding the rubber sleeve supports in or out on the crossbars to balance the keyboard properly atop the stand. Also, make sure you have the height adjuster knob facing away from you as you sit at the keyboard and that the wider ends of all crossbars are facing toward you (measure the screw-hole to end distance if you have to). Best thing since sliced bread!
Honestly now. I have the Casio Privia piano, which can use 2 pedals. I bought 2 of these pedals to try and they work great. The one major complaint I've always had with non traditional pianos is the cheap tiny pedals every company gives you. Plus they give you only 1 at that.Say goodbye to those tiny boxes, pretending to be pedals, slipping and sliding out from under your feet. These are real full size piano pedals and are heavy enough to stay put even without the non slide bottoms. I've had mine 3 months now and have not had to climb under my piano once looking for and sorting out which pedal is which...they simply stay put!JulyThe more I use these little wonders the more I love them.

Works with my Yamaha Keyboard
I am using this pedal with a Yamaha YPT-200 keyboard and it is compatible. It worked from the start and responds as I expect it to. It has the feel of a real piano pedal. (I'm not an expert, but I have played on acoustic pianos in the past.)I like the weight and the rubber bottom, because they allow the pedal to stay put. No problems for me.

Great...if you have the room under your keyboard
I had been using the 'pedal' which came with the keyboard for the Privia px-100 keyboard which is nothing like a pedal on a normal piano. I purchased the M-Audio pedal to replace it.At first I was thrilled with this pedal, but when I bought a stand for my digital piano I discovered a problem. This pedal is very long, 10.5". With the stand against the wall there was no room to push the pedal far enough back to place into a normal playing position. I had to move the stand about 8 inches from the wall to put the pedal into place.Before buying just beware of how you have/want to arrange your keyboard and be sure you'll have the room to use the pedal comfortably.

I'm giving this piano 5 stars. For quality of build, features, sound quality and price. Quality Yamaha instrument (YPT-230). Great keys, nice sound, lots of features. Feels solid and well built. Read the product specs from Yamaha to compare various keyboards in this price range. Note that this model requires 6 AA batteries or an AC adapter, which is not included. Packaging indicates the following, "Requires AC adapter (YAMAHA PA-3C, PA-130). AC Adapter: not included". The only negative is that it didn't come standard with the AC adapter and Amazon wasn't clear in the item description. However, since the adapters are easily obtained for less than $20, it's a great deal even it you have to order the accessory adapter.

My First Keyboard
After a lifetime of being musically challenged, I decided to learn to play the piano. Yamaha has a nice selection of low-cost keyboards for the beginner and I chose the YPT-230 based on price. It has a lot of nice features, but I was only interested in a well-built keyboard that sounds good. This keyboard is well-made and sounds just like a piano. It's just what I need!It does not come with a power adapter, probably to shave a few bucks off the price. But I'd recommend getting one so you don't have to fool around with batteries.

Good Keyboard, Not Velocity/Touch Sensitive
I purchased this keyboard on another website a couple of weeks ago. It has lots of sounds and decent sounding speakers. The build quality is also good, but lacks weighted and touch/velocity sensitive keys. If you are a prospective producer looking for something to hook up to your computer, I would not recommend this keyboard. If you are looking for a keyboard learn or practice this keyboard will be great for you. Also be aware that this keyboard comes with no cables including a power cable. Hope this helps.

I actually went to Boarder's to look at the "learning to play piano" books because I wanted to be able to flip through them in person. After looking through literally ALL of the books, I decided on this one and was so excited that I didn't wait to go home and order it on Amazon.com. Pleased with it
A little about me. I'm a middle aged frustrated musician. I have tried different methods and different instuments over the years, only to fail miserably. That said, I decided to get this course and start right from the begining again. I use an old Yamaha keyboard to practice on. I'm about 1/2 done with this book, and I'm having good results for a change. My advice to others is to take it nice and slow, and do a couple of lessons at a time until you have them down cold. I used to try and burn through books like these in the past, and never developed solid fundamentals. A music teacher would never say to do as much of a book as you could before the next lesson. I've finally learned some patience.One of the reasons I chose this course over "Learn to play the Keyboard" courses is that so many of the Keyboard courses seemed to be teaching how to manipulate the Keyboard to sound great while playing music similar to what's found in those "EZ-Play" music books. Keyboard package was a Christmas hit!
I had a keyboard as a kid and knew that it would go over well for my boyfriend's 8 y/o artist/musician/gymnast wanna be. While most of the features are too advanced for her, she's catching on!I did a lot of searching. The price for just the keyboard was somewhat standard for a sale price at at least one store, but I couldn't find such a reasonable bundle anywhere. Any parent who considers this MUST, MUST, MUST purchase the headphones, and the stand is a blessing. It keeps it off the floor and makes for a more realistic piano lesson at home.Good sound; lots of bells and whistles. Sure it doesn't have 88 keys, but most people don't use the top or bottom keys very often. I think this keyboard is just perfect!
