Martin Love
I bought my Martin D-28 in 1972. I have a Guild 12 and a Stetson 1928 Parlor. I played my Martin D-28 semi-professionally from 1976-1991.Being of the age that my Martin D-28 is it does not have a truss rod. Never-the-less, it rings like Christmas bells in the philharmonic. I do feel the need to have the neck reset. The newer ones, I believe, have the rod so my problem will not be yours. (The action on mine is a little more difficult after all this time and travel)The D-28 is a wonder. It is so very true to all types of music. BlueGrass, rock, jazz. CF Martin had his stuff together on this one as it has lasted for decades + and been lauded by all the stars of the aforementioned types of various groups that have needed and used an acoustic guitar.Construction is superb. Woods are superb. Mine is Brazilian Rosewood and German spruce top. Ebony finger board and saddle. I will have it buried with me to keep it close.If you are looking for a...

D28 Martin Guitar
Nothing else sounds like a Martin. I have other guitars and decided that I wanted one that "sounds like a Martin". I bought my D28 new in 2009 after trying many, many $1,000+ priced guitars in local music stores. The fit and finish is fantastic. I have small hands and the neck is a little bit thinner than on the older D28s and the action is great. The sound is awesome, loud, and the tone is rich and full. I was after the classic Martin Dreadnought sound and the D28 is it. As this guitar opens up over the next several years the sound can only get better.

Martin is the standard.
The D-28 is the flagship model of Martin Guitars. Incredible tone in every avenue: Highs, Mids, Lows... This is the guitar the pros pick when the band is taking a break backstage. It creates its own symphony of sound that is unparalleled.I had a little patience and did some shopping. After a couple months of "A - B'ing" high end D-28's, I found a true diamond in the rough. Rich earthly crunchy tone, and yet slides like silk over your ears. I played and compared this guitar against a Collings D2 and a Tony Rice Santa Cruz (both $4,000 guitars.)The D-28 outperformed them in every way.And the best part: It will sound twice as good when your grandchildren play it.

Martin D-28 DreadnoughtSince its introduction in 1931, the Martin D-28 has remained the standard by which all large-bodied, steel stringed acoustic guitars are measured. The large "Dreadnought" sized body, originated by Frank H. Martin and Oliver Hunt in 1916, is named for a class of large British battleship and was considered a radical departure from small parlor-sized guitars of the period. Today, it is the most widely imitated guitar model in the world.The body of the D-28, built extra wide and deep, utilizes select East Indian rosewood for back and sides, and straight-grained Sitka spruce for the top. Guys! Don't be put-off by the cover art!
I commend the compilers for creating such a wonderful CD. The music is quite mellow, especially the pieces that are preformed by Zamfir, the famous panpipist. That whimsical woodwind gives a rustic, almost mythical feel the piece of music. You almost feel like you are in Arcadia awaiting a lecture by Chiron!There is a good cross sampling of various Baroque pieces and Baroque artists. The variety is the spice that makes this CD worth buying and listening to over and over again. This CD also works well on shuffle, which remakes it into a brand new album.There are a lot of oboes and string on this disc, and being a former oboist, I am electrified as I hear that instruments mellow honk!Guys! Don't be put off by the cover-this is a good disc. Good for the mind, heart, and soul!

Mellow, but not sleepy
I don't know how to sum this one up. It is mellow, but you can't meditate to it. It's more upbeat than I would normally prefer to sleep to, but it works all the same. The music is performed so beautifully that I almost want to stay up and listen. This CD is also good for reading to, because it is easy on the ears but won't put you to sleep.

just ok
This is good at times but mostly it's just ok. First, the sound quality ranges from awfull to good but never excellent. There are quite a bit of analog recordings on here and most of the stuff on here was recorded in the 60s. There isn't a lot new to anyone that has been collecting music featuring the harp. In fact, there seem to be very few classical recordings available featuring the harp as there is. the performances are ok but are old fashioned in the way they play as expected from old recordings.

Just fyi - The picture is not what you get in the mail. It is as it reads: white with black dots, not black with white dots as they advertise in their picture. I was disappointed (my dad, actually, for the holidays), but at least they are cheap!

Overall, the guitar has a great performance and appearance although the sound of the guitar is not as loud as many dreadnoughts built with scalloped braces from Martin. The headstock of Martin D-28 is decorated with the simple, yet ultra-stylish old-style C F Martin with the Waverly 4063 tuners. Due to many famous guitarists using this guitar, it has no doubt anymore to get the Martin D-28 for the ultimate choice. This series of Martin D-28 guitar has the wider fingerboard than that of a regular dreadnought. The wider fingerboard and slotted headstock gives the character for the guitar created by Martin. For the decoration, the decorative centre strip to the back is a flawless and tasteful example of parquetry completed with the black coloured boltaron from the PVC plastic used by Martin since it has been used for the binding as well as the heel...

Well I went in empty handed, and came out with a wonderful Martin HD 28 VR. The "HD" stands for "herringbone dreadnought," and the "VR" stands for "Vintage Reissue. It was probably sometime in the late 90's when I went up to the North Dallas Guitar Center with an extra couple of grand in the bank that I wanted to blow on a guitar that I didn't really need. If you DO know how to use a tuner, then I'm here to tell you that I've never regretted my purchase of the Boss Tuner, and that I most certainly recommend that exact model to you, my friend.

In that respect, the Martin D28 Clarence White is a tribute to an almost forgotten tradition of pure tonality. Featuring both an effortless profile and an incredible depth of tone, this guitar leaves no room for bells and whistles to interfere with your music.
