Very good guitar and not only for it'modest size.
I received this little guitar today (October 2010), and started playing it right out of the box, or rather out of the gig bag. It arrived in perfect order after having travelled all the way from the US to Europe. All I had to do was tuning it of course. Included were the gig bag and two straps, one for the guitar and one for the gig bag, and various pamphlets were also included. It was supplied with Martin M170 strings. It is very well set up with perfect action according to my taste, and intonation is faultless.I own a Martin D28, and really didn't expect too much of a sound from this baby (virtually), but was very pleasantly surprised. It sounds very martinesque, and being a fingerpicker it really doesn't matter if the sound isn't that powerful because it's very silvery and balanced. It really "outsounds" it's modest size, and projects the sound very well. I've owned other standard size acoustic guitars that don't have been that much louder and far less defined...

The one I keep going back to...
I've had this guitar for about 4 years so I think I can offer some insight into it's pros/cons.I bought this guitar as my first acoustic, primarily playing bass/electric guitar up until then. I was initially disappointed with the action and effort it took to play on my particular model but soon became inured to it. The sound is far more sonorous than it may initially seem. The body gives off a really strong resonance for some reason that creates an almost mystical sonic quality. That being said, it's a quiet guitar but perfect if you're just playing for yourself or with someone else.Quality wise: my specific model came with somewhat unpolished fret edges that slightly hung off the edge of the fingerboard though they weren't much of a problem. The action was a bit high though one can get used to it pretty easily - the shop said it couldn't be lowered without creating buzzing. The neck has staid level all these years - no truss rod, no warping - pleasant...

It's a Martin
Got one of these little beauties about 10 years ago. It's a Martin, not much more needs to be said. It's a great little guitar; sounds great, though it's a little quiet due to the small body. The only drawback is the lack of a good leg rest position. It needs to be played standing or with the body up against the arm of the chair. Light, easy to carry, good feel. Good second guitar or if you have money for only one and need to move around a lot, this will not disappoint.

Product Description

The Martin black leather guitar strap button is perfect for any acoustic guitar player who does not have a strap button installed on the heel of the guitar. The black leather guitar strap button by Martin is a clever, stylish way to attach a strap to the headstock of an acoustic guitar. This black leather strap button will not leave marks or scratches on the headstock of a guitar like many others do. Perfect for the player who wants to maintain the traditional, stock look of an acoustic guitar. Top to learn more

Martin Guitar Strap Button
In looking for a "better" way to attach a strap to a flattop acoustic guitar, most of which do not have a front mounted strap button (I never really understood why, since all guitars give you a rear one), I found this in my search for a better solution than tying shoelace string around the headstock above the nut as is done in all acoustic guitar straps.I thought the idea was ingenious. It provides a solution which is almost as if you've attached a real strap button to the guitar, but without modifying the guitar. The ONLY reason I downgraded my review from 5 stars to 4 is because I would have preferred to have been able to attach this around the headstock above the first set of tuners rather than just above the nut, but it's designed to give you just enough leather to go around the narrowest part of the headstock at the nut. Of course, my "downgrade" is based on a purely subjective personal preference and doesn't really reflect the quality nor function of the...

Great Guitar
Every now and then something comes along that surprises you and makes you smile. This guitar will do that. I'm a 51 year old guitar player and I've played in dance bands since the mid 70's. I like the saying "One can never have too many guitars". I have about a dozen or so and about half of them are big name 2500+ models. I wanted a 000 size to leave out so I could pick it up anytime inspiration strikes. Finding a decent guitar for not alot of money is tough, then trying to find it online without hearing it is a real task. I searched all over and finally clicked on this one.It arrived double boxed in great shape. I took it out and tuned it up and it sounded great. Mine came with a hang tag stating it was strung with D'Addario strings which are my favorite. The tuners are nice and smooth, after the strings settled in it is holding tune very well. I was impressed that this model cam with a bone nut and saddle. This is very important for a good tone. Most lesser expensive...

good guitar for the money
I just received this guitar and so far I am well pleased with the purchase. It arrived via Fedex double boxed and in perfect condition. Even the box looked like it had been handled with care. The setup was decent and after a quick tune up I was playing it. I was amazed at how easy it was to play although there was a little buzz on the B string on the second fret. The 1 3/4 nut width is perfect for me as I like a little wider neck. The solid spruce top was tight grained. I am really impressed with the bone nut and saddle that is not usually found on guitars at this price. The tuners work well and seem to be of a decent quality for an inexpensive guitar. The sound is nice and gentle with plenty of volume for a concert/parlor size body. The finish on my example is adequate but not spectacular. The gloss finish really seems to me more like a satin and in certain light conditions I can see some small areas where the finish is thinner than other places on the body. The finish is not too...

Recording King 000 style guitar
I have a problem with this guitar... I CANT PUT IT DOWN!!! For the money this IS a Fantastic instrument!! It came with D'addario strings, nicely packaged, and after tuning her up I discovered a Brilliant and clear solid wood guitar tone that you would expect to pay Alot for!! I am a die-hard Martin guy so when I wanted a 000 style guitar I looked around and happen to find it here, I don't have $1500.00 for a Martin 000 so I ordered this one and I figured I could yard sale it if I didn't like it....Well long story short, This one is staying right here!! It's playability and the solid wood body, and back, bone nut and saddle make it Very easy to play!! The neck is big but not too much, but I have big hands...If your looking for a starter or an addition to your collection that looks just as good as it plays, this is the one, I love the matte finish, because I have found over the years that gloss finishes tend to be sticky when your playin hard and sweaty...my opinion anyway, I will...

Good stuff, easy to use
Definitely puts a nice shine on my Martin D-16GT. Great scent also - very earthy. Doesn't take much to put a sparkling sheen on the surface. I hope it helps to preserve the tone.

Excellent strings
I've been playing guitar professionally for over 30 years and have tried literally every brand of string I'm aware of...even some odballs that I didn't know existed until I saw them on the rack. For many years, I stuck with D-Addario Phosphor Bronze because they've been consistent with good tone and longevity. But in the Martin SP Phospher Bronze lights, I've found an even better quality string. I'm in an Irish/Celtic duo, and play a Martin OM16 in DADGAD tuning, and a 1970 Guild F30 Paul Simon in standard tuning. In both guitars, the Martin strings provide a deeper, louder tone with great sustain than any other string I've used. I recently tried a set of Elixer Nonoweb Phosphor Bronze ($16!!!!....yikes), and they didn't sound nearly as good as the Martin SPs....at less than half the price. So I immediately replaced the Elixers with SPs.Yes, strings are a very personal item and we all have different likes and dislikes with regard to what tonal qulaities we like in our...

Professional Acoustic Guitarist, I ONLY use these...
Prior to using these I would break strings constantly. After a very long period of trying every string out there it was an easy choice. They are the only strings I use now, and occasional efforts to find something better have failed. Super reliable, tough, and they sound fantastic on my Rainsong Jumbo. I haven't done a lot of reviews, but I truly think these are the best acoustic strings you can buy.

Great string
When I traded in my Alvarez and bought a new Martin, I stuck with my old standby string - John Pearse phosphor bronze light. And they played beautifully. When the local shop stopped carrying John Pearse, I picked up a set of D'Addario which I hadn't tried in years. And they were complete garbage - terrible sound on my Martin. Last time around I picked up some Martin SPs which again I hadn't tried in years - they sounded flat on the Alvarez. But they absolutely sing on a Martin. I didn't think anything would sound better than my old standby John Pearses. But these do. Martin SPs on a Martin - go figure, they work!

Good alternative to string
I don't own a martin but it works for me. It's very simple to attach and it looks a lot nicer than strings tied onto the neck. Seems more reliable too.

Just like the record industry, the number of women working in guitar building has grown over the years and to celebrate Women’s History Month (of which to tomorrow is the final day) we are highlighting just a few of the many women who build... As anyone who has built a guitar can tell you, the fit of the neck can be one of the most crucial and challenging parts of a guitar build – particularly if the guitar sports a dovetail neck joint. Diane has worked as a neck fitter for Martin guitar for the past 10 years, where her husband Dave also used to work. You are still more likely to see a man than a woman with a guitar on TV and in magazines, but for every girl seeking a role model we hope you’ll remember that if there is a Martin in your hands, it was almost certainly built with the help of one... Phyllis has been an employee of Martin Guitar since 1985, when she started in what was then our string division. “Someone could have been saving up their whole lives for this guitar,” says Mary, “and I want to make sure the instrument they get lives up to that. We’ll miss her – and maybe you’re playing a guitar that Phyllis helped to build right now. “I worked with a machine once,” says Diane, “but I could cut them by hand faster than the machine could, so they got rid of it. ”. Mary has been working in our stringing division for 10 years.

The series of HD-28 is not the same with the previous guitar created by Martin because it is higher developed that people will see the difference between this guitar and the previous series. Overall, the guitar has a great performance and appearance although the sound of the guitar is not as loud as many dreadnoughts built with scalloped braces from Martin. Body Style: 14-Fret Dreadnought (D) Series: Standard Series Top Wood: Solid Spruce Rosette: Black and White Pickguard: Tortoise Color Bracing: Scalloped 5/16 in. Side Wood: Solid Rosewood Back Wood: Solid Rosewood Back Construction: 2-piece Back... The headstock of Martin HD-28 is decorated with the simple, yet ultra-stylish old-style C F Martin with the Waverly 4063 tuners. This series of HD-28 guitar has the wider fingerboard than that of a regular dreadnought.   Completed with the high-pressure laminate wood made from wood fibers, the HD-28 provides the same sturdy construction of solid woods.
