Super Chromonica Harp
The product was deliver in a timely fashion, and at an excellent price. Hohner has always produced quality harps, but they continue to improve the quality of their instruments. I've been buying Hohner harps for 50 years, and have never been disappointed.

I love my harmonica
This harmonica is an amazing instrument. It blows easily and has a very good tone. I like the rich looking box that it comes in. At first the chromatic lever stuck, but that only lasted for about one minute. It works perfectly now.

Customer Review

Outstanding for the price
I'm a diatonic harmonica player, and this is the first chromatic harmonica I have ever used, so my review should be understood from that perspective. I wanted a chromatic harmonica to help me learn to read music, and I settled on the Educator 10 because it was relatively inexpensive ($38) and because it got good reviews. I'm pleased to say that it does not disappoint.First, some odds and ends: The Educator 10 says right on it that it is "by Honica", a name that might throw some off, especially since it came in blister packaging that said "Hohner". It is indeed a genuine Hohner product, and is listed on their website. I believe it is intended to be an introductory chromatic harmonica. Like most of their inexpensive offerings, the Educator 10 is made in China, but the only indicator of this was a sticker (yes, sticker) on it that said "Made in China". Chinese-made harmonicas are a mixed bag, and the Educator 10 is light-years ahead of any of the others that I have used,...

The only thing wrong with it is....
The only thing wrong with this is that before I went on Amazon, I casually stolled into a local music store looking for a good diatonic, and this was on sale for fifty bucks. Had I known Amazon offered it cheaper.....I have played diatonic since 1985 and have fooled with Chromatics on occasion, but never really took the time to learn (it is a very intimidating instrument for the novice or those who are used to diatonics). After some minor exercises with instruction books, Stevie Wonder and Larry Adler CDs, and knowing what I know from diatonics, I am now having fun playing this by ear. As a previous reviewer stated, this does not have the annoying "sticking" of other Chromatics. I have no intention of giving up the diatonic blues harps, but I have found a second hobby with the Chromatic thanks to this one. I would also recommend it for potential Chromatic beginners. I look forward to soon playing this with the same ease I do with the diatonic blues harp in public.

So where's the Educator 12?
First of all, don't let the name "Hohnica" fool you; Hohnica is indeed a licensed subsidiary of the Hohner company and this is a quality product worthy of the Hohner name.Range: The Hohnica Educator 10 is an entry level chromatic harmonica; it starts at C and goes up to F# two and a half octaves above. This range will get you through most folk melodies and quite a few classical and jazz tunes. While the range is limited, the over all tone of the reeds is quite uniform (which is nice). I would love it if they made a 12 hole (3 octave) version.Construction: This thing is very solid. It has a plastic comb. It doesn't have wind savers. It comes with a soft case. It will last.Sound: This harmonica is relatively quiet (volume wise) and muddy (tone wise) for a chromatic harmonica. This is probably because of the lack of wind savers and the low cost of parts. I actually like this aspect; I can play this harmonica at night and not upset my...

Hohner Chromonica -- awesome harmonica
I received my 64 Chromonica this afternoon. My mother brought it to me from my Aunt Dotty. It was previously owned by my Uncle Buddy. She also brought me a Koch Hohner harmonica from them also.I have played and owned other harmonicas, but none like this one. This harmonica is the twenty-third and best harmonica in my arsenal. I love how the range extends down an octave below middle C.When I played my Chromonica for the first time outside Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, and heard the low C for the first time, I was shocked and excited. The low C is the same pitch as the open C-String on the viola. If you have the money for one of these, get yourself one. Chromatic harmonicas are the cream of the crop.

A Monster Harp
I studied and studied reviews before splurging on this one. This is Day 1 for me, it's just out of the box at this point. It's humongous, but I wanted the four octaves, I simply do not like jumping octaves to complete a piece. Here's what I wanted to know and wasn't sure of from what I read. Are any of the notes hard to play? No, and I'm a 61 yr. old grandma. They are just as smooth as silk, and that low C is amazing. I can notice that this one, like all new harps, will need some breaking in, there's an occasional buzz, but I know from having several small diatonics that this too shall pass. Is the slide mechanism smooth? Yes, easy to use. You can even do hand cupping technique, tho awkward, it's not difficult. If you aren't sure about the size of this monster, look it up on Youtube, and see it in action. It isn't your traditional little harmonica that you can stick in your pocket.Lastly I should say I'm just an amateur, not very good, and yet, I do not feel...

Sharing info about the Koch Chromatic Harmonica
Howdy! As the owner of a Koch Chromatic harmonica, I thought I'd share some helpful information about this interesting musical instrument. This harmonica is a chromatic-style, with the slide button, which raises the pitch of the note one-half step upward. Any note you play will be raised one-half step when the button is pushed, whether you are blowing or drawing on that particular hole. This allows for chromatic playing, of a full octave of 12 notes. Now....the difference between a Koch Chromatic harmonica, and other models of Hohner Chromatic harmonicas is this....A Koch has its notes arranged in the same pattern as a standard 10 hole diatonic harmonica. If you are familiar with these, such as the Marine Band, the Special 20, and all other 10 hole diatonics, you will already know that holes 1, 2, and 3 are the low notes of an incomplete diatonic (7 note do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti-do) scale, and holes 4, 5, 6, 7, are a complete 7 note diatonic scale, and holes 8, 9, and 10 are the high...

Wonderful instrument!
I am a relative beginner but have a number of instruments. This one is at the top of my list of the ones what brings particular joy to by horrid playing. Of course I found my range greatly increased with this harp and love the increased versatility. It is comfortable to hold and play, and when I am "on" it the sounds produced are true. I might add that the review here by chimera68 is excellent and I learned much from it. This is what reviews should be about. I wish I could write better and knew more about the subject than I do right now. Guess that is what learning is all about - huh. Anyway, I love my new harp and have already received much enjoyment from it.

Good melodic harmonica
I bought this for my 5 year old grandson-to see if he has an ear for picking out tunes. It was easy for him to learn to play and all of the notes blow true. The chromatic scale runs from about A in the middle C scale up to the next A, so it has a rather tenor sound and makes it hard to play blues riffs. Otherwise, it is a fine instrument.

Customer Review

Nice sound, feel in a classic chromonica improved upon
I purchased one of these a while back more out of curiosity than of necessity, as I already own a Super 64 Chromonica (4 octaves which I reviewed elsewhere on Amazon) and CX-12 (3 octaves, just like this one), and a couple of Super Chromonicas. The lowdown is this: the sound quality is wonderful, better than the Super Chromonica that it is based upon, and better than the CX-12, and close if not equal to the Super 64. Notes are bright, and it is easy to play and sustain notes, even in the low register. It has the advantage of possessing the higher quality of the Super 64, but in a smaller, easier to hold package (while sacrificing the lower octave of the Super 64 which, unless your music calls out for it, is rarely needed, so most players won't notice or care about the omission).I've played the Super 64 recently in shows. The Super 64 is really a great harmonica: great quality and sound, round holes for comfortable tongueing. I see this harmonica as a Super 64 that for some...

comparable to the seydel chromatic deluxe
i found the deluxe hohner 270 comparable to the seydel chromatic deluxe - the seydel actually generates higher volume and is less expensive...chromatic harmonicas are inherently more challenging to play - not as smooth particularly the draw notes - than diatonic harmonicas because of the valves/wind savers they use .....
