An upgrade from the kit hi hat
I bought this hi hat as an upgrade due to the poor quality of the hi hat that came with my drum set. I am very happy with the purchase. The price is really good and for a beginner like me, this hi hat set is great.

AMAZING SOUND
Run, don't walk to buy these cymbals! I replaced a budget set of Sabian B8's with these based on reviews I saw on other retailer's sites. I'm so glad I did. These hats give me that crisp open hi hat sound that I wanted & a dynamic closed hat sound. I play soul, r&b, fusion, gospel & pop and these hi hats give me exactly what I need for those styles. They're hefty (in weight) without being clodding & dull and they just sing! They make me want to play my drums all the time. I don't know how Meinl sells these so cheaply. In terms of quality, they rival Zildjian and Sabian intermediate to entry level-pro cymbals, but at an extreme budget/beginner's price. I can't get over it! Buy these!

Hi Hat Cymbals

A ride cymbal and a crash cymbal are both fundemental to a basic drum kit. It is rather uncommon since the cymbals are often used as the riding instrument where as the toms and snare are used to emphasize specific beats. Ride cymbals are used more to maintain a rhythm whereas crash symbals are used as accents. you plug all the mics into the mixer (make sure you have enough inputs for how many mics you have) and you can then use it to individually adjust the sound for each mic. A splash cymbal is also used for accents but is not a necessary component for an initial drum kit. the overhead mics are designed to have a wide range that it can pick up sound which is why they are used to capture all the cymbals. Either they are just really crappy cymbals or you’re playing them too hard or hitting them incorrectly. Make sure you are aware of what’s going on in the music instead of just following the notes (ie hi-hat open or closed, bell strikes, flams, etc). Ideally, you would want to have a mic for the kick, snare and all the toms then you will probably want 2 overhead mics. I have been playing the same Sabian’s since 1985 and haven’t cracked one cymbal and that’s gigging 2 to 4 nights a week. Then again there are many songs in which she uses cymbals regularly.

Favorite bands:  Queen, Savatage, Iron Maiden, Dimmu Borgir, After Forever, Nightwish, Pagan’s Mind, Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne, Kiss, Leaves’ Eyes, Blind Guardian, Angtoria, Amaranthe, Covenant, Children Of Bodom, King Diamond, Symphony X,...

In Life on Air:  David Attenborough’s 50 Years in Television Scholey wanted to do an ecology series about both animals and plants with plants playing a background role, “Plants, we thought, needed to come into the equation, but you can’t do too... The spirit of the song is well captured as their faces light up assembling the hi-hat cymbal or trying the drums for the first time. This obviously isn’t a song about the chemical reactions that take place in plants’ chloroplasts, not directly anyway (unlike the They Might be Giants Song of the same name ). The opening of the bridge, the climax of the song, holds the clue. Turner was a little worried about that too when I asked, but he shared the deeper meaning he was after in using the metaphor, “Well, now you’re now going to castigate my low opinion of plants but it just means a method of existence that’s... There are surely many plant biologists who would disagree with the idea that plants are passive. It’s a great song that’s really less about what plants are like and more about what does and should define us as humans, especially adult humans. And just in case you were really concerned about Turner’s views of plants, he reassured me that he actually has a t-shirt with the chemical equation for photosynthesis. ” He was shocked when, over a lunch meeting, Attenborough was able to convince them to produce a six-hour series solely about plants. Plants go to great lengths, exhibiting surprising strength and a variety of strategies, to actively create the best possible conditions for their photosynthetic leaves.

There was a cymbal stand with a ride cymbal on it, and a hi-hat stand with hi-hats. When I heard the vast array of Paiste cymbals right in front of me, on a lot of cymbal stands, I realized that they ALL sounded great, and that none of them were special selected. I had a notion of Paiste cymbals that was limited, so I was now curious to know more about these cymbals. I can mix and match knowing exactly what my objective is. I noticed that, for example, the Traditionals had the warm and dark tone that sounds great, but the cymbal never gets away from you. The other thing is that I was able to categorize the various cymbals in my mind because they are grouped into ‘families’, which all have a sound function in mind, yet they also overlap. After an extensive period of researching and auditioning the company’s instruments, Vinnie began officially playing Paiste on a recent tour with Sting, with a set of cymbals consisting mostly of Formula 602 models. SIMPLE, yet just a purely great sounding cymbal. And, the cymbals themselves didn’t control the sound engineer. A pure sounding cymbal. By way of departing from the more traditional news release format, Paiste chooses instead to herewith provide Vinnie’s own unedited and deeply personal narrative regarding his decision to join Paiste:. And so I saw this entire range of cymbals that I didn’t know about. I walked over and tapped the cymbal and said to the drum technician, ‘what is THIS. Just different sizes and weights, but the fundamental cymbal was what it was. Because of that, in a live situation I was able to lower the overhead mics, and turn them up so that I could hear the entire kit better in the overheads, instead of having to only hear the kit from close mics. Paiste announces the endorsement of its instruments by Vinnie Colaiuta, the highly regarded Los Angeles based drummer whose collaborations with some of the most important contemporary artists and extensive session work manifested a stellar career...
