My favorite harp...
Back when I was learning to play harmonica I tried many different styles and brands before discovering these Golden Melody harps. I really like the sound they produce and the ease of "bending" notes, even for beginners. I also really like the fact that all of the edges are rounded, making it much more comfortable on both your mouth and your hands. I know many of the greats swear by the "Marine Band" harmonica, and to tell the truth I wish the Golden Melody had wood instead of plastic edges, but I choose this one as my favorire based on the results I get with it.Now as for the key of C... I get a lot more use out of the keys of A and E, but thats another story...

a harp you could set watch by
I really enjoy playing with this harp whenever I get a chance to because it produces a very good sound without having to blow or suck a lot of air in. I found it very easy to bend notes, in fact this is the first harp in which I was able to bend notes on. The roundedout edges are also very nice on the hands and it makes it easier to hold. It is made of plastic and not wood but that hasn't caused a problem so far. So I would reccomend a Hohner Golden Melody in any key to anyone. Although I would choose the one in the key of C, if you're a begginer because it would be easier to learn on I think.

Even better
Still just a novice, but bought this more expensive model by looking at the reviews.WOW, what a nice sound, and still a great price.I find hitting single notes easier on my Hohner 81 Pocket Pal (still entry level skills), but if I want to sound better than I am, and I'm playing chords, I go for the Golden.

Golden Melody (#542) - Smooth, rounded corners fit nicely into the palm of your hand as you play this harmonica, the favorite of great harpists such as Pierre Lacocque (Mississippi Heat) and Carlos Del Junco. This unique design coupled with an air tight, dark red, plastic body sets this 10-hole instrument apart. The Golden Melody has equal temperament tuning for melody playing, which makes it a natural for Country Music, but it can still bring down the house on blues and rock numbers. All major keys available. Top to learn more

Great Mic If You Can Play Harp
If you have the chops don't worry about getting a vintage mic. This mic, when run through a decent tube amp, will do the trick. I've been playing professionally for 20 years and I use this mic as often as I use my original Astatic JT-30.And Hohner outdid themselves by retro-ing this thing up. Classic Astatic JT-30 look, screw-on connector, hammered finish and all, with the convenience of a volume knob.

The JT30 Roadhouse Harmonica Microphone is an exclusive version of this Astatic by Hohner handheld mic with volume control. The JT30 Roadhouse Microphone produces that classic, dirty Chicago blues harp tone. The JT30 was introduced over 50 years ago as an inexpensive and rugged crystal element microphone for public address systems and Ham radio operators. Blues players discovered that the JT30's emphasis of the voice's midrange frequencies produced a raw, honking sound when they cupped their harmonica against broad front of this bullet mic. Over the years, the JT30 has become the favorite harp mic for many established blue harpists. The JT30 Roadhouse uses the same mold for the mic housing that Astatic used to build the original JT30 mics. When played through a vintage-style tube amp, the frequency response of the JT30's crystal element duplicates the warm, slightly distorted "Mississippi Sax" tone that harp players crave. Includes 20' of high-impedance 1/4" amp cable designed to fit the threads of the JT30 and a 1/4" male adapter that plugs directly into a guitar amp. Top to learn more
Clear, feedback resistant microphone
I play blues harmonica, and have an old 1960 astatic jt30 that I usually play; it's very hot and very dirty. I have two amps I play through... a Sonny Jr. 2 and a Harp Gear 2. My old mic works great with the Sonny, but is too dirty for vocals, and too dirty for the high gain input on the Harp Gear 2. So I thought I'd try out a different mic, and since I like the JT30 shape, I gave the Roadhouse a try. It works really well. It is not a dirty mic; it is clean and clear, fairly hot, and medium bright (it uses a crystal element). I plug it into my Harp Gear 2, in the high gain input, and it works great. I get a little bit of dirt from the amp, and I can use it with harmonica or vocals. I don't have a problem with feedback, and if I do, I can always use my Kinder Antifeedback Plus. If you have a dirty amp, and want a mic that will work with harmonica and vocals, the Roadhouse is a pretty good place to start.

Blasting the blues
I purchased this mic after hemming and hawing over eBay and Craigslist and all sorts of advice from harp mic builders and found this mic to be the only one under $100, which was my budget. Several reviews and a killer price drop later, and I figured $49 bucks plus free S & H gets it a try! I never even tried it, just plugged it into my Blues Jr. amp when I was setting up to play with the church worship team! Bam. Wow! Dug the volume control, though it seems to go in reverse! Oh well. It trumped my previous Blues Blaster and Green Bullet mics, along with the SHure vocal mics I had tried. This was perfect for what I play and I feel it gives me a great sound in that tube amp! Go Hohner! I have only used it twice, so we will see on longevity, though it came w/a 2 year warranty. Hopefull I will get many more years than that. Love the Hi-Z plug in! Play on!

Premier Model O tube amp for guitar or harmonica. » Filed Under Vintage Tube Amps. The clarostat potentiometer is dated 1945, so presumably this was made between 1945 and 1947 when the very similar Model 50 was introduced. I’ve tested the amp out and it has the characteristic loud hum of needing new filter capacitors. The crazy paint job is original as far as I know because I have seen several Model O’s in a similar state.

Exuding sex, the album's title track crosses echo-drench harmonica with biting swamp-blues guitar and a howling, declamatory vocal. All of the music here is as effortless as it is inspiring, and much of it sounds familiar, at least on first listen.
