A classic...
After attempting to use several other mics to play harmonica through, I finally bought one of these and have never been sorry I did. This mic is perfect for harmonica. The range of sound is great, it is comfortable and easy to hold in your hands with the harmonica, and it doubles as a decent voice microphone. In fact, I think it adds its own flavor to any sound that is sent through it. I highly recommend this mic, and this is a good price.

Little Walter could play through anything...
... and still sound great. Hate to break this to you, but you're no Little Walter! Well, at least I'm not. :) I've tried cheaper mics. This one makes a real difference. It's substantial to hold in your hand, deceptively heavy. The volume control is great...I can go from playing rhythm harmonica to taking the lead very easily. If you're serious about blues harp, this is the mic you need.

Key Features

  • Volume control knob allows users to adjust the volume to fit each musical situation
  • Rugged, dynamic cartridge with improved response
  • High-impedance, omnidirectional
  • Supplied with 1/4 inch connector

Applications
Connect the 520DX directly into a guitar amplifier to produce the classic blues harp sound. Use the following guidelines:

  • The volume control on the microphone should be turned down before plugging it into an amplifier. As you move away from the amplifier, the volume can be turned up.
  • Adjust the microphone's volume control knob during performances as needed. For example, when switching from playing rhythm to lead or to place the microphone on standby between sets.
  • To avoid feedback, maintain as much distance as possible from monitors or loudspeakers. Adjust the volume of monitors or loudspeakers at the mixing console so that no feedback is present when the volume control knob on the harmonica microphone is at its maximum setting.

THE BULLET HITS THE BULLSEYE!
i've been using the bullet for years and find its "dirty" sound just what i need. some may feel that this mic is too heavy, but i don't think it is. and since shure added a volume control i like it even better. if there is one thing i could say about the bullet that needs changing, it's the cable. it is really not secured strongly into the mic and if you happen to accidentaly step on it while you're playing, you stand a good chance of ripping it right out of the microphone. if it wasn't for that, i'd give the bullet a five star rateing. jersey slim

great mic, great value
I really like this mic! I mostly play classical and avant garde type music, so I don't mind that it doesn't have a really "rugged" sound the Chicago blues harpists got. So far, it has a good feel and quality sound to it. (mine is still brand-new) I suspect the people who gave this piece bad reviews were been playing through poor amps. I played through my Fender Princeton amp, and it sounds gorgeous. :)

Great Mic If You Can Play Harp
If you have the chops don't worry about getting a vintage mic. This mic, when run through a decent tube amp, will do the trick. I've been playing professionally for 20 years and I use this mic as often as I use my original Astatic JT-30.And Hohner outdid themselves by retro-ing this thing up. Classic Astatic JT-30 look, screw-on connector, hammered finish and all, with the convenience of a volume knob.

Product Description

The JT30 Roadhouse Harmonica Microphone is an exclusive version of this Astatic by Hohner handheld mic with volume control. The JT30 Roadhouse Microphone produces that classic, dirty Chicago blues harp tone. The JT30 was introduced over 50 years ago as an inexpensive and rugged crystal element microphone for public address systems and Ham radio operators. Blues players discovered that the JT30's emphasis of the voice's midrange frequencies produced a raw, honking sound when they cupped their harmonica against broad front of this bullet mic. Over the years, the JT30 has become the favorite harp mic for many established blue harpists. The JT30 Roadhouse uses the same mold for the mic housing that Astatic used to build the original JT30 mics. When played through a vintage-style tube amp, the frequency response of the JT30's crystal element duplicates the warm, slightly distorted "Mississippi Sax" tone that harp players crave. Includes 20' of high-impedance 1/4" amp cable designed to fit the threads of the JT30 and a 1/4" male adapter that plugs directly into a guitar amp. Top to learn more

Clear, feedback resistant microphone
I play blues harmonica, and have an old 1960 astatic jt30 that I usually play; it's very hot and very dirty. I have two amps I play through... a Sonny Jr. 2 and a Harp Gear 2. My old mic works great with the Sonny, but is too dirty for vocals, and too dirty for the high gain input on the Harp Gear 2. So I thought I'd try out a different mic, and since I like the JT30 shape, I gave the Roadhouse a try. It works really well. It is not a dirty mic; it is clean and clear, fairly hot, and medium bright (it uses a crystal element). I plug it into my Harp Gear 2, in the high gain input, and it works great. I get a little bit of dirt from the amp, and I can use it with harmonica or vocals. I don't have a problem with feedback, and if I do, I can always use my Kinder Antifeedback Plus. If you have a dirty amp, and want a mic that will work with harmonica and vocals, the Roadhouse is a pretty good place to start.

Blasting the blues
I purchased this mic after hemming and hawing over eBay and Craigslist and all sorts of advice from harp mic builders and found this mic to be the only one under $100, which was my budget. Several reviews and a killer price drop later, and I figured $49 bucks plus free S & H gets it a try! I never even tried it, just plugged it into my Blues Jr. amp when I was setting up to play with the church worship team! Bam. Wow! Dug the volume control, though it seems to go in reverse! Oh well. It trumped my previous Blues Blaster and Green Bullet mics, along with the SHure vocal mics I had tried. This was perfect for what I play and I feel it gives me a great sound in that tube amp! Go Hohner! I have only used it twice, so we will see on longevity, though it came w/a 2 year warranty. Hopefull I will get many more years than that. Love the Hi-Z plug in! Play on!

Great Tones, okay design, Amazing Value
I am still shocked at how great sounding this thing is and how much use I get out of it. I haven't had a single issue with it, other than the fact that its kind of ugly and isn't as cool looking as a Marshall Half stack or Fender Twin.First thing you will want to do when you buy this amp is do a google search for behringer v amp 3, find the official behringer page for this and dowload and print out the full manual for this thing. The included manual in the box is pretty bad. The full manual goes into MUCH more detail. A slight, but easily remedied annoyance.Secondly, It's kinda ugly. I don't know why the decided it needed to be in the shape of a guitar, it kinda lends to a kitschy feel that is aided by the red plastic (I guess they were trying to make it kinda look like a Line 6 POD?)Thirdly, the interface takes a little getting used to, and isn't super convenient if you decide you want a different sound while playing in a club with it. Hard to...

Turn Your Home Into a Hit Factory--In Seconds!
Hook the V-AMP3 up to your computer using the included 1/4" TRS-to-RCA cable and UCA222 USB interface. Connect V-AMP3 Phones output with the stereo line inputs of UCA222, and switch its direct monitoring function on. Then connect the UCA222 USB cable to your computer. You can monitor the signal with the UCA222's headphone jack. (This is also a great way to jam along with the MP3's on your computer). From there, the amazing energyXT2.5 DAW (digital audio workstation) makes it easy to manipulate your audio and MIDI files, turning song ideas into stunning CD or web-ready recordings. energyXT2.5 includes its own multi-FX processor, built-in synthesizers and a drum machine, both of which can be accessed by any controller keyboard, such as the UMA25S or UMX series, or programmed in step-write mode.

Any Classic You Like
The V-AMP 3's 32 amp models are organized into four groups: CLEAN, BLUES, METAL and ROCK. Just twist the dedicated dial to plug into unbelievably authentic simulations of the greatest British and American tube amps from the 1950s to today. You even get models of uncommon--yet renowned--boutique tube amps! When you select an amp model, a speaker cabinet model is automatically selected. But if you'd prefer a different model, just go to EDIT>CABINETS, then use the BANK UP/DOWN buttons to navigate through all 15 options.

Just like on an actual guitar amp, you've got a three-band EQ, GAIN, REVERB, VOLUME and MASTER VOLUME dials. By holding the TAP button, the TREBLE dial becomes a PRESENCE control. This enables the adjustment of a high-frequency filter that can add or remove a "shimmer" from the V-AMP 3's tone.

Top Tone--In Full Effect
The V-AMP 3 gives you flanger, chorus, compression, delay and 12 other beautiful digital effects to apply to your sound. Adjust the effect's level in the mix via the EFFECTS dial. To adjust effect parameters, you can rhythmically press the TAP button to alter delay times or LFO speeds, or hold down the TAP button and twist the EFFECTS knob to access e.g. feedback or depth. By using a MIDI pedal, such as the BEHRINGER FCB1010, you can access an additional Wah Wah effect. You can adjust the filter characteristic by entering EDIT mode, selecting the DRIVE menu and turning the EFFECTS knob while holding the TAP button.

Presenting the Presets
All of these elements have been combined into 125 different presets divided into 25 banks, accessible through the BANK UP/ BANK DOWN buttons. Within each bank, you can press buttons A through E to explore its different presets. You can also create and save your own presets. Start by selecting a preset, then making any changes you wish: amp, EQ, effect, etc. The preset LED will begin to flash, indicating that the V-AMP 3 is ready to save your settings. To do this, hold the preset button down for about two seconds. Once the LED stops flashing, you have saved the modified preset. On top of all this, the V-AMP 3 also features a built-in tuner and noise gate. In essence, it's a Swiss Army Knife for the home recording enthusiast or gigging guitarist who can't seem to settle on one amp.

Stunning in the Studio
The V-AMP 3 features several configurations that make it an invaluable asset in the studio. Access the configuration menu by pressing the B and D buttons at the same time. Then use BANK UP and BANK DOWN to select a configuration.

When using headphones, the V-AMP 3 will switch into Studio Mode 1 (S1). This stereo mode works well for both monitoring and recording with effects, amp and speaker modeling. It doesn't apply the additional three-band EQ to the signal, but most recording programs--like energyXT2.5--have their own EQ. In Studio Mode 2 (S2), the V-AMP 3 sends a signal with amp and speaker simulation, but only the right output has effects. You can either record both left and right outputs to separate tracks, or record the "dry" left output while monitoring the right output.

Stellar on Stage
The V-AMP 3 has three live configurations. When performing live with this device, you can either run it to an amp on stage, run directly to the mixing board, or both. Live Mode 1 is the best choice for running the outputs directly to the mixer, because it applies amp and speaker simulation, effects and an additional 3-band EQ.

Use Live Mode 2 to run the V-AMP 3 into the effects return inputs of 2 different guitar amps. This configuration does not feature speaker simulation, allowing the amplifier's natural speaker sound to go unaltered. In this scenario, the amps would be mic'd on stage to get the sound to the house speakers, and having a dedicated monitor would be less important. In Live Mode 3, you can send the left output to an amp's effects return for onstage volume, while the right output sends signal to the main mixer for inclusion in the main house mix. Also note that you can press the TAP key while turning the GAIN knob to adjust the input sensitivity to match the output of your guitar's pickups. If the CLIP LED lights, the input's sensitivity should be reduced.

Veni, MIDI, Vici
The V-AMP 3 comes fully equipped to fit right into a MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) setup. It can be controlled in real time from a computer, or via a MIDI foot controller during a live performance. Its MIDI connectors are international-standard 5-pin DIN connectors. You will need dedicated MIDI cables (not included).

The MIDI IN jack receives MIDI controller data. It can be adjusted in EDIT mode by pressing the A button and then using the arrow keys. MIDI OUT/THRU sends data to a computer. You can transmit both preset data and parameter changes. Some people even use the V-AMP as a remote control for parameters of their DAW or VST instruments, which is more handy than using the mouse alone. If set to MIDI THRU, the V-AMP 3 does not send its own MIDI information, but passes on the signal received at the MIDI IN connector.

Very good for the price
The first amp simulator I ever bought was the V-Amp 2 in 2003, and I was completely blown away by the way it sounded, especially in my stereo headphones. I'd been half-heartedly dabbling in guitar off and on for more than 20 years by that point(far more off than on -- I was a synth player in local bands in the 1980s), and had never taken lessons or made much progress as a guitarist, much as I wanted to. Well, I plugged my crappy low-end Fernandes guitar in the V-Amp 2, put on the headphones, dialed in what promised to be a Van Halen-esque Marshall sound with some nice delay, played one note and my life changed. Seriously. All I did was a couple of hammer-on/pull-offs and I thought I had died and been reincarnated a lead guitarist.Flash forward to 2011. Gone is the $120 Fernandes and the V-Amp 2. I've gone through at least $10,000 worth of music equipment in the intervening eight years -- including setting up my own home studio and recording stuff that is on the...

sound is clean
Hooked this bad boy to my amp and it rocks out with good clean distortion..... BUT the manual stinks , the interface stinks , be sure to read the pdf on amp use because of the way this outputs.... I dont like devices that make buttons have dual roles and this thing is chock full of them.... but once you get the sound you need from it wham! I just wish they made it easier to use. This device also comes with a usb box that allows your computer to record your guitar.
