Awesome Harp
The Marine Band has to be without a doubt the most responsive harmonica I own. The minute you blow into it the notes effortlessly fly out of it; like running water or a knife going through butter. The Marine Band really cuts through the mix of other instruments in ways that I have not seen other harps do. The tone is great! It speaks with an amazing clarity and has a rich and beautiful timbre that is tight and incredibly focused, yet lush and warm at the same. It is much brighter than the Hohner Blues Harp Overall the Marine Band is a very musically versatile instrument. It will do what you tell it to. If you want to play screaming solos, rock, cry the blues, folk, make your harmonica sing or if you are nuts about tone, this is the harp for you. The Marine Band is ideal for single note playing (you do have to pucker more than you would with bigger harps like Lee Oskar). Additionally, it is comfortable and smooth on the lips, and the comb is sealed off a lot better than the Blues...

Pretty good, but not the best
I bought this for my wife, who was just beginning to learn to play. The sound is pretty good ... a bit sharper than the other two Hohner models I've heard, the Blues Harp and the Special 20. Honestly, I'd have to say that I prefer the sound of both the Blues Harp and the Special 20 to this one, but I'm no pro.We ended up returning this unit because the 3 draw hole was defective. Actually, neither I nor my wife could get good sound out of 2 draw or 3 draw, but evidently 2 draw is a common problem for novices. Her harmonica teacher confirmed that 3 draw wasn't working right so we returned it. Went and got a Special 20 instead; works fine and, as I said, I think it has a better sound. Also, Hohner advertises the Special 20 as being a better model to learn on, so I think we're sticking with Special 20's for the time being.

Classic Hohner Marine Band
The Marine Band is the quintessential harmonica. It is the classic choice among blues and rock musicians. The great thing about this harmonica is that it is also perfect for beginners. It is easy to play and has a beautiful sound. It is extremely made and durable. This one will last a long time- plus Hohner stands behind their products!Bottom line- if you are going to buy a harmonica then this is the one. It's affordable, well made and sounds great! Surprised
WOW, Ive Gotten all kinds of harps, Blues Harps, Special 20s, Lee Oskars, and Golden Melodies. I NEVER purchased a Mraine Band becasue Ive read bad reviews about it online. I just got one and am surprisingly pleased with it! I like it better than my plastic combed Special 20s!!! The Sound is AMAZING the ease of bending is AMAZING. I also compared the size to the Lee Oskars and it is smaller, it look to be the same size as a special 20 but it FEELS so much smaller in your hand which allows for great hand effects. If you are a prospective harp buyer and youve heard negative reviews like me about the dowsides of the Marine Band, i urge you to TRY IT and i think you will really enjoy playing it. I havent had problems with the wood swelling yet, but I Dont think that will be a big deal even if it does happen. Give the MB a try.

Smokin' Harmonica
I've used my Hohners to accompany my guitar playing and singing with a neck holder (a la Bob Dylan,John Lennon,etc...).I don't play many songs that require harmonica, but when I do the Hohner tone does it right. I've used a cheap set of harmonicas when I started but found they didn't cut it like the Hohners. My mom bought me my first G Hohner and I blew out a reed on it. So I had to replace it with another. I bought a second hand guitar and it had a Hohner A in it's case with it(what a find). I like the Hohner Marine Band a lot. A little expensive but they're worth it.

Outstanding value
Not too long before purchasing this set I bought a Marine Band harp in Ab from my local music store. I already had six Hohner Golden Melody harps in my collection, as well as one Lee Oscar, all of which are very good harps. But, from the first song I played on the wooden combed Marine Band I was amazed at the clear, rich tones it produced. When I came across this set I knew it was something I had to have. The price is simply outstanding for a five harp set. Another bonus is the zippered, padded case. I expected a cheap vinyl soft-sided case, but it turns out it's quite sturdy and well made, probably worth twenty bucks in itself. Needless to say, the harps are of the highest quality, with each reed of all five harps in perfect tune. I know they will be getting a lot of use!

The Benchmark!
I've been playing around with a little "cheepo" plastic harmonica I found laying around my room one day, and decided I needed to take the next step with my harmonica playing. Being only a teen, I wanted something moderately priced and could deliver. For the price that I paid, you couldn't find a better deal. Five harmonicas all in different keys to experiment with your style of playing and with the legendary Marine Band craftsmanship. I love these things!

These harps are great and play easily.
My new harps arrived as I was headed out of the door to a Jam. Not knowing how they would play I took a chance and carried them along. WOW! I was very pleased when I picked one up to take an instrumental break and it blew so easy I almost over blew it. Tone quality and pitch are excellent. I was expecting a servicable harmonica from Hohner, but these really blew my mind. Well worth the cost.

Product Description

This special pack contains a C, G, A, D, and E key Hohner 1896/20 Marine Band harmonicas in a padded case. The harmonicas are probably the most played harmonicas in the world due to their excellent sound and ease of playing. Break them in gently and they'll produce those flatted thirds fifths and sevenths that are the heart of great blues harp. They are 10-hole diatonic with a pearwood comb and bolted on covers. The case holds 7, so there's room for your extras. It's padded on the outside, black and plush on the inside. It uses both a zipper and a hook-and-loop fastener to keep them all inside when you travel. It also has a handle for easy carrying.. Top to learn more

Great!
What can I say? It lives up to its reputation. I love it. The notes bend easily, it sits in the mix nicely. Some people don't like the wood because it can swell when wet and cut your lips. I don't think that's an issue unless you only own one key and use it on every song. Worth every penny.
