Amazing Fun - Addictive and Vastly Replayable
I adore the Guitar Hero series. It is incredibly fun, can be played co-op, and exposes players to all sorts of great music. Guitar Hero III ups the ante with even more fantastic songs plus a new battle mode for fun head to head gameplay!Once again you're a small time band starting off in your garage - or make that, your back yard. As you play through songs on your guitar controller, your career begins to take off. You make videos, play larger arenas, and earn money. The money lets you buy yourself new outfits and guitars. As you battle special players, you unlock their characters - like Slash from Guns 'N Roses. In every Guitar Hero game there have been songs I've liked and other songs I haven't liked. That's going to be true pretty much no matter who you are. They try their very best to provide a wide range of music to suit all guitar tastes, and they do an excellent job at it. Some of the songs are SUPER in this set and got me up off the couch dancing around...

A Step Backward
A note to any official Amazon guys - you might want to merge this review set with the bundle on 360.Okay. Now, I'm a fan of the franchise. I own a lot of it. All of it, actually, and twice on 360 and PS2 for the immediate predecessor of this installment. So, hopefully you will trust me when I say that I am a fan of the gameplay and the franchise in general in this preface. It's kind of baffling what's happened with this game. Neversoft has certainly recognized some of the shortcomings of its predecessor, but have somehow managed to not solve even one of those issues, and have, in fact, introduced new problems to be addressed. I'll do this as a sort of point-by-point thing, to keep it organized:1. Medium-to-Hard. In Guitar Hero 2, the jump from Medium to Hard was only slightly more enjoyable than stepping in front of a speeding bus. The main reason this was such a problem was that the game was very, very poorly designed for getting players...

Still the same Guitar Hero, but with some great additions.
Guitar Hero 3 (GH3) is the fourth iteration in this series of games despite it being labeled the third, though for most people the 80s edition that was the actual third game was a bit of a footnote since it only came out on PS2 and had very little in it that differed from Guitar Hero 2 other than the songs.GH3 continues with the same basic formula as the previous games which will keep fans of the series happy, but at the same time adds some welcome new features. One of the best additions is that of online play so that you can now do co-op, face-off, pro face-off and battle mode with a friend over the Live network. The battle mode is a change up from the normal face-off modes in that instead of gaining star power you acquire attacks from playing certain sequences of notes. Then when you turn the guitar up as if you were going to use star power it instead launches an attack at your opponent. The attacks vary in their nastiness and while I was skeptical of this...

Boss battles SUCK!!!
The setlist is good. The difficulty is fine. But the boss battles play like somebody said "Hey, this game is fun and all but isn't there something we could borrow from a tired old platformer to interrupt the flow and made people frustrated and cuss us?" Thus was born the GH3 boss battle. Huarf!

Some flaws, but overall a great game
I come to Guitar Hero 3 for the Wii having played Guitar Hero 2 on the PS2 at Expert difficulty. Sometimes formula can be a bad thing, other times it's not. This is one of those "not" times. The game plays basically the same as its predecessor, and on top of that it's got a better set list. After reaching 5-star level on nearly all the songs at Expert difficulty in Guitar Hero 2, I found that the list of songs that I actually just enjoyed playing was very short. That's not so much the case with Guitar Hero 3, which has a larger collection of songs that are both fun to play and to listen to.There are flaws, though. It seems to me that the new developers decided that they needed to tweak the Hammer On/Pull Off controls a little, and the result of this tweaking was that there were many times throughout the game where I instinctively didn't strum because two notes were close together, but one of the notes inexplicably required you to strum. Although this increases...

Rocks So Hard It May Hurt Itself!!
I've never played the previous games in this series but this game is addictive! The Wii remote is easy to tuck into the guitar and the tutorial is pretty easy. Instead of strings you have a bar you push corresponding to how fast the notes move. I've never strummed guitar, my husband has. And I'm thrashing him at this game! You work you're way up from a garage band, earning money along the way that you can spend in the games store for goodies like new outfits, real songs from around the world, and extra characters.Your current playlist is good with songs everybody knows even if their a poptart. You may even get asked to do an encore! My one gripe is their aren't that many chick songs, at least not on the levels I've played. If you can find a second guitar remote you can rock head to head, which I plan to do with the spouse. I'll need to find a pink faceplate though. The makers said they'd have alternate fronts, so here's hoping. The guitar/remote is about the...

Life in Mono
Guitar Hero 3 is great, however there are some problems with this particular version.First, let me point out the obvious. This is the first and only Guitar Hero game for any Nintendo system. Currently only has been released for Wii, there are no plans for any of the three other Guitar Hero games will come to Wii. In other words this is the only game in town for GH on the Wii and sadly the game plays songs only in Mono. This means if you have a fancy surround system, the music would only come out of the center speaker. You can rig it up so that the same mono sound comes out of other speakers, but that is not even an approximation of Dolby Pro Logic II. This is a negative, but shouldn't really prevent anyone from picking this game up.The game itself is still as good as...

Legends of Rock is a music game with great music, turning plastic guitar shredding into a real blast
When Harmonix left Guitar Hero to start Rock Band, Activision and Neversoft had some catching up to do. They didn't really have experience in making music games, and suddenly they had a franchise to work with that could potentially make them oodles of money. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (GHIII) is the first main series Guitar Hero game from the new companies, and it turned out to be a great game that is still the best Guitar Hero game to date, in my opinion. For those of you who don't know, Guitar Hero's gameplay involves players using a guitar controller with a strum bar and five fret buttons, and as notes come down the on-screen highway the player needs to strum while holding the correct fret button in time with the notes. It sounds easy until you try and do it yourself, and then you realize just how fun and challenging it is. It gets even more fun as you get better at it too, and with time you can be shredding some awesome guitar riffs with that plastic controller...

Good Music and Fun
This game seems like a good choice for young and old. My nephew and brother have a great time jamming out to some rock and roll classics. Most songs are easy to follow for a novice player, but some songs are more challenging. My nephew (10yrs old) was happy with the gift and enjoys playing it with his friends... so I guess it was worth it.

Lots of Hype, Moderate Execution
As an big fan of the Guitar Hero games and owner of the previous three installments on the PSXII I was VERY excited for GH3. HOWEVER, after playing for a few days now I am very sad to say I'm rather disappointed as I have mixed feelings over GH3.First off is the aesthetics looks; obviously Activision made a great effort to appeal to contemporary audiences and, from a marketing standpoint, this is very understandable. However, I feel as though the Guitar Hero franchise is now becoming a marketing tool for new bands and songs instead of following the formula of playing great songs both old and new. Granted there were many songs from the 1980s on back, but in many instances songs were from the past year or so; some were even being initially produced during production of Guitar Hero 3, which reinforces my theory. To be fair, there were many songs I was very pleased to see make the final cut such as Welcome to the Jungle and La Grange. I'm a big classic rock fan...

I Was Too Quick To Judge. This Game Rocks!!
As the wife of the above, I had to edit my review of this game after playing it for a couple of weeks now. I LOVE it. I hated it at first and was really frustrated at the gameplay. I wasn't sure I liked the battle modes or the song list. Also, being new to the "Guitar Hero" games probably didn't help. With the help of my son I figured out the gameplay and I am now on hard. I think if I could figure out where the orange fret is I'd do better. The songs become more real as you progress through the levels as more notes are given.BUT, this game rocks after I gave it some more time. It's my favorite of all the games now and I can't stop playing it. The battle mode is great and gives you more incentive to work harder. My son and I battled it out one night and we had a great time. He obviously won but it was time well spent together. It's not often there are video games that everyone can play regardless of age. All of my kids love the "Guitar Hero" games...

Not real happy with it
I've been a GH player since the first one came out and this one is not as much fun as the others. Mainly I don't like the choice of songs. The interface has changed, but that didn't bother me as I was able to breeze right through all the songs on Hard my first time out. (I'm pretty much an Expert class GH player) So playability wasn't an issue, in fact this one felt easier than the previous 3 GH releases but that could be due to the fact that I've been playing for a couple years now. What really turned me off were the songs. They weren't necessarily bad songs, for example if I heard them on the radio I wouldn't change the channel in disgust. They just didn't translate well to this game, they lacked energy. I really liked KISS, Poison, The Killers, Black Sabbath and Heir Kommt Alex as they are all fun groups to listen and play along to. As well as the song Cliffs Of Dover, so much fun to play. But the others just left me feeling bored and uninterested. I'm a GH fan for life and...

Still fun despite various annoyances
I was a little worried when I ordered this game based on some of the complaints I'd been reading. Having received it and spent several hours playing, I find that the complaints are basically valid but not as big a deal as some might have one believe. Here are my thoughts:* The song list ranges from worthless to classic. They're trying to please too many different people and should probably consider releasing separate games in specific genres going forward. I love the classic rock and '80s metal tracks, but a lot of the others don't do anything for me. I'm sure that plenty of younger gamers have the opposite reaction. Also, the fact that a few of the songs can only be played in multiplayer mode is extremely annoying.* The gameplay is indeed much harder than in previous games. Aside from the fact that Easy still uses only 3 fret buttons and Medium uses 4, each difficulty level is roughly equivalent to the next highest level in the earlier games...

Great game but much harder
First off let me just say that this is a great game. I was a little concerned when it switched from Harmonix to Neversoft, but they have stayed true to what guitar hero is all about. Mechanics of the game is the same and the game play is very fun as usual. This however is not for the faint hearted. The song list is great (mostly original artists and not cover bands like the last 2 games) but they are very fast paced and particulary "shredders" where you feel your arm is about to fall off. I play on hard and expert. You shouldn't have any problems and if you are new to guitar hero I recommend on starting out easy/medium due to the difficultly level being anti-upped in guitar hero 3. "One" in particular is the song title by Metallica which is a very hard song to beat and this would be for those who have played guitar hero before and want a significant challenge. What's interesting is that they have added what's called "battle mode" which instead of star...
