Fine Gretsch
I've been surprised and delighted with my 5120 since I saw it on the wall at the music store. It has decent sound with good electronics, and the neck is one of the best I've ever played, well shaped and finished. I've always liked Bigsby trems, and this one is why. BTW, mine has the silver pickguard with the Gretsch logo. Looks great. Couldn't be more satisfied with this guitar.

Tremendous Value!
The only real differences between this model and the iconic 6120 are the somewhat unattractive clear pickguard (everybody else seems to change this out - I'm too cheap) and the much, much lower price. I have the orange finish version, and it sounds exactly like Brian Setzer's.

An amazing guitar
You can not buy a better guitar for the money (or even more money). The sound is great... full, clear... just a great guitar. The action is superb and it's beautiful looking. BnB Beatles Depot

Fifty Stars!!! I came, I played, I purchased.
I've been playing more than 25 years and have always admired the hollow-bodied electrics, but I've always let them pass because they were too far out of my price range. After playing acoustics almost exclusively over the past 15 years, I decided to get my hands back on an electric guitar. Not only is this one far less than I expected (an exceptional value!), but it is simply the most fun guitar I've ever played.Being out of the electric market for a while, I wasn't quite sure where to begin. I found a guitar shop, wandered a bit, saw this one right away, and put it out of my mind (thinking it was out of my price range--the last time I priced hollow-bodies about 15 years ago, the cheapest ones were around $1,600). I eventually told one of the clerks about my musical history and preferences (playing 25+ years, rhythm, rockabilly, fingerstyle), and asked him to bring me a few instruments. This was the first one he brought me.I plugged it in and started...

Greatest guitar under a grand
The only negative things I have ever read about this guitar where people griping that it's not made in the US. Cry about it, You can thank Fender for that. I did a lot of research before buying this guitar. I had always dreamed of owning a Gretsch, but like many, the price left me on the outs. (Ideally wanted the Reverend Horton Heat model) After lamenting the price difference between this and the Ibanez Artcore AG75, I opted for the fastest payoff and cheaped out. Huge mistake. The AG75 does not sound anything like a Gretsch. So I sold my Upright Bass and bought myself this model. I switched the strings first. 11 Gauge seem to hold the tone the best. The next thing I did was trade out the pickups for the much better TV Jones Classic, which curiously enough, is set up on TV Jones website which specific ones to buy for the 5120 (seems like it's the thing to do). Now this guitar screams. It sounds like any guitar Gretsch makes up to the $2k range. The action is great. It sits very...

Gretsch is Guitar for "Love"
I first "played" (I'm using the word loosely) a Gretsch hollow body guitar about a year or two ago at a local guitar store. I immediately fell in love with the sound of the guitar. At the time, my brother and I were just goofing around, mostly looking at acoustic guitars, and he was beginning to think about getting an electric guitar. I hadn't planned to buy an electric guitar, but I couldn't get the Gretsch out of my mind.As far as Gretsch's go, it wasn't a horribly expensive one. In fact, the guitar I fell in love with is, essentially, the entry-level hollow body, the G5120. One neat thing is, the 5120 is very similar to the more expensive models other than the wiring harness and pickups. So, if you wanted, you could buy the 5120 and then put another few hundred dollars into upgrades and have a guitar that matched up with one worth $1500 or so for about half the price.Regardless of that, I really loved the sound of the 5120. It sounded sweeter than a...

Excellent Guitar
What a versatile guitar! It does possess that Gretsch sound. Has the clarity to be a ringing 'And Your Birds Can Sing,' or 'Crossroads' with equal aplomb.Comes with the standard rebellious Gretsch knob layout - three volume, including a master and one tone. The cost cutting efforts are not hidden. Open tuners. The base of the floating bridge is rosewood but I would question the quality of the wood used. The Bigsby tailpiece, while wonderful to use is fiendishly trying when you restring. Until you get used to it, that is. A pre-bend in the ball end of the string goes a long way to easing the task. Bigsby must have been a saddist. The capacitor in the tone circuit is too restricted, the rolloff is intense. The pluses? They are many.Tone as I mentioned. The guitar is very light, a full hollowbody, not a semi hollow body.Thick binding.A flat neck - or at least it feels flat. A look at the spec sheet shows there is a tapering...

Gretsch G5122 - Good Value
Saw one of these in local guitar store a couple of months ago and thought I would try it, as it looks great, but truth be told I was expecting it to be hard to play and clunky. It was neither - very nice fretboard and slim neck, makes it a joy to play (also tried an Epiphone Casino, same price - nowhere near as smooth to play). So I bought the Gretsch and it sounds great played through my old Ampeg Tube Amp, and is versatile - can be very retro sounding with the Biggsby tremolo or much more modern sounding if you want. A real plus is that even with tremolo use and much string bending on solos it stays solidly in tune - I was in a band practice the other day for 4 hours and barely had to retune it. Mine was made in Korea (South presumably), is finished nicely and is a real pleasure to have around. Having owned it for only a short period I'm still in a bit of a honeymoon period with it so can't comment on how well it will age or how reliable it will be, but for now I am very happy with...

Unbelievable sound and craftsmanship
I was looking for a Gibson ES type guitar without the high price tag. My first choice was the Epiphone Dot, but that was so cheap that I passed. Then I came across the Gretsch Electromatic. The quality wood, fittings, beauty, craftsmanship is outstanding. Has both a vintage look and sound quality. Great classic blues guitar sound, similar to BB King's Lucille. For around $600, I dare you find any guitar with this quality. I recommend going to Gretsch webpage and see all the great guitars they produce. Biggest problem is they don't make a case for it. Made in Korea, but made with extreme care and attention to details.

G5122 Amazing Twone
Twone is the combination of 'twang' and 'tone.' A Gretsch hallmark. When they coined the phrase, "That Great Gretsch Sound," they weren't kidding. This is a Made In Korea 'Electromatic' Gretsch.I paid $630 out the door and then bought a case for another $100. This is troublesome, no other case will fit unless you are comfortable with adding piece of foam. The controls are typical Gretsch, one tone and three volumes knobs, one being a master volume. It has knurled strap buttons, open backed tuners, very nice thick binding, thumbnail fret markers and an Adjust-O-Matic bridge.Check the foot of the rosewood base - the fit of this foot is a huge component in overall tone. Mine had a twist and was hard to make it flush to the body top.I ended up replacing it with a 'Rocking Bar Bridge,' ($55 bridge and ebony base) which made a dramatic difference in sound. The foot of the new base is ebony and much smaller. It makes superb contact. The...

Plastic handle
This is considered the "economy" case. Unfortunately I have nothing to compare it to. I could find no description anywhere on the Amazon or Gretsch web sites regarding this or the "deluxe" guitar case. I bought it blindly. After receiving the case I noticed a label reading "TKL made in Canada". It has 3 medium weight hinges. The Pro's:The case is heavy duty, it seems very well constructed with nice latches and a heavy weight exterior, possibly nylon. I expect it will hold up well to abuse. There are nice round metal pegs on the bottom/back of the case preventing scratching of the case. The interior is padded with a grey, soft, fur type material. It has an adequate storage space for tuner and picks. It is a perfect fit for the Gretsch G5120 and most likely the G5122.It's a hard sturdy case that will prevent damage to the guitar due to falling or something falling on the guitar.Since it's fairly...
