Great Beginner Flute! Best value for your money
I did the homework so you don't have to.I looked around a long time before deciding on this particular flute. My daughter is starting band and I wanted a decent starter flute that would be easy to play and be durable at the same time. I played in band many years ago and I have seen a large array of different instruments. I can't see how you could a better value than this instrument. First of all it is Triple silver plated not nickel/silver like so many cheap flutes are. It is very obvious when you first see this instrument that is silver plated. I can tell you this instrument is nothing short of stunning in appearance. More importantly than initial appearance is silver can be polished to regain initial luster. I played a brass instrument that had a clear lacquer coat that looked awful after 2 years even though I cleaned my instrument after every use. I had a friend that had a silver plated trumpet that was beautiful after 6 years of playing. For me personally,...

Excellent Beginner Flute
When I first started playing the flute two years ago, I received this flute as a gift from my parents. It has served me faithfully so far, and I have only had to take it for repair once, and that was just a quick tightening of a leaking key.The Gemeinhardt 2SP is a VERY durable flute. It withstood my rough, clumsy, inexperienced fingers and my countless dropping of it. (On carpet, thankfully.)The headjoint, keys, body, and footjoint are all silver-plated. Although the quality of the tone cannot, of course, match those of an intermediate or professional flute, they come out clear and easily and are more than enough for a beginner.I highly recommend the Gemeinhardt 2SP for the flute beginner.Two thumbs up!

I received the flute quick and in good condition exept for some sticky goo on the inside of the body piece, about an inch wide. I took it off with q-tip and vascoline. The embouchure hole is the oval shape (unlike the Jupiters and Armstrong, which is a rounded-off square shape), and requires soft playing to get clear notes. If you like a better tone, and dont mind using more air power, I suggest the other models mentioned. For now Im happy with this model, since the notes are quicker having the small oval shape, and needing less effort and air. For my indoor hobby I find it suitable for soft and quiet playing. The keys are soft to the touch, not bouncy, and you get a black plastic cleaning rod with it.

Amzaing Flute
I have been playing for seven years, and I have always played on a Gemeinhardt flute. I would recomend this brand to just about anyone who is serious about playing. It is very high quality and is pretty durable, for a flute. I have never had any problems with mine (it is not a student flute but it is still a Gemeinhardt) in all of the years that I have played.

Wonderful Flute for a student
I have been playing for about 6 years now, and am at an advanced high school level. (concertos, sonatas; LOTS of Bach). This was my first open-hole flute, although I have the offset-G key, which helps with transitioning to open hole. For a student flute, it has excellent tone, and it is very easy to produce a full range of dynamics. The flute is also very comfortable to play on, as the keys and infrastructure of the flute are well placed. The lower range, including the low B has a very nice sound and the notes are fairly easy to produce. I have been playing on this flute for about 3 years, and my older, beginners flute and piccolo are both Gemeinhardts. Gemeinhardt is an excellent brand for student flutists and even more experienced players, so I highly recommend any of their instruments. This is a great flute for anyone starting open-hole or just looking for a reliable instument. If you can afford it, the Gemeinhardt 3SB, with a solid silver body, produces an even nicer, more...

Perfect for junior high, high school, college and beyond
This year my Gemeinhardt (3SHB) and I celebrate 20 years together. I played it intensely through junior high and high school, several hours daily as I played in band, symphony, competitions and then some; then played through a few performances in college, and now just for the joy of playing flute. As for the previous review of "Gemeinhardts not holding up," I find it very hard to believe. Mine has been through the rigors and granted I've given it tender care since the moment I received it (polishing, cleaning), it has required the most minimal bit of tuning and the only "repair" if it counts as such is getting a pad changed every now and then. It's remarkably resilient, has a beautiful rich tone, and as I, an avid player who no longer aspires to be a professional one but a fairly (darn) good one, I find no need to "upgrade." It's my baby, and I love it.As for the other bizarre comment of gender and lung capacity, this is the first I've heard of such a thing in over 25...

Wonderful flute
I have had this type of flute for about 5 years now and I absolutely love it. I have never had any issues with repairs and I haven't needed any pad replacement. I also have a Gemeinhardt M2 that I used for about 6 years, 4 of which were through marching band and that poor flute put up with everything and never quit on me. I was the section leader and I was fixing my sections flutes every day with popped out springs and dead keys and never once had any issues with my "gemeiny". Maybe it's just personal use but I have had 4 different flutes during my 11 years of playing and Gemeinhardt is the best.

Great Value; Great Sound
The Gemeinhardt flute has a beautiful, clear sound. I previously used a Bundy student flute, which has a different shaped embouchure. So, it took me a little while to get used to it. It is also wise to warm up the instrument by playing a little bit before performing. I am very pleased with it.

Gemeinhardt 2SP Flute Package
I bought this for my daughter to play in the school band. Her band teacher recommended it by name and it is also the same model we were paying to rent from Jan -June 10 we were cheaper to buy for the 10-11 school year's band. The only issue we had was that the flute would not play 2 keys after only a month's use (I bought late summer 10; for fall school year's use, they did not start school till Mid September and by Mid October no sound would come out when the 2 notes were pressed). Luckily, it was a SIMPLE tune up and fix by the local rental shop (and only a $20 bill). All aside, it was a brand new, as advertised flute. I was told that the key malfunction is typical when a flute is played for a month or two, tune ups, adjustments are necessary. So all in all, I still feel it's a MUCH better buy than renting. It's a VERY VERY high quality flute that retails in band rental stores for $500-$700! It's well worth the money and after the tune up/repair it plays perfectly. The kit helped...
