Buy this freaking guitar
Awesome guitar guys. The finish is beautiful and after a little tuning I had it sounding just like I thought it would. There were other reviews saying it doesn't stay in tune and the fret wires were cut too long, but I haven't experienced either one of these. Seriously, if you're a beginner guitarest and want a clean looking good sounding guitar while staying low in price... look no further than this.

Best guitar for the money
After speaking with several musicians and doing more research on this than I've ever done before, I have to say you can't go wrong with this little black beauty.

Amazing Guitar!
Last December, I wanted to learn how to play guitar. My parents got me this guitar for Christmas, and then it all started. A very nice-looking guitar. Very sleek, and it is nice and large.I have now had this guitar for 10 months, and 40+ songs learned later, I can tell you it is an amazing guitar. I have not had one single problem with it. It has a very nice sound too it, and it is a great beginner guitar. The only real downside is it gets dirty easily, but what else can you expect from a black guitar? I recommend Dunlop 65 polish. Makes it look brand new!It is a great guitar for adult beginners. Do not buy this guitar for young children, because it is very big. For me, being a 16 year old, it is perfectly sized. Highly recommended!

PERFECT for beginners and maybe beyond!
For $99, this is an amazing buy!I bought this Epiphone DR-100 as a cheap beginner instrument. It EXCEEDED my wildest expectations! The factory strings are a bit buzzy according to my more experience friend, but a new set of strings fixed that immediately. Comes with two buttons, so there is no need for a silly shoe string to hold your strap. Good action, beautiful sound and has and attractive shine and grain pattern.Simply couldn't be more happy with my purchase.

4 stars for a 100 dollar guitar? Yep.
I bought this for my step dad for Christmas. He wanted to learn to play. I thought "Well, if he gives up on it, I'm only out a hundred bucks.". When it arrived, I opened it up to make sure it wasn't in pieces before wrapping it. I was blown away. The finish was flawless. The fret ends were nicely dressed. The neck was straight. There was no glue squeezing out from under the bracing. The headstock has an actual inlay instead of a decal. It sounded a little tinny with stock strings, as other reviews here have noted, so I put some Martin 9s on it to ease him into callused fingers. It sounds really good! My own acoustic is a Seagull with a cedar top. The spruce on the Epiphone is a little brighter, but not at all harsh. The neck is surprisingly thin and narrow. Good for smaller hands. It's a lot like an Ibanez electric neck, in fact. It may not project like a Gibson, but I wasn't at all displeased with its tone, which will only improve with time. If you're looking for a good deal on a...

Super value for the money. If you're on a budget, this is an outstanding choice...
The Epiphone LP Special II Les Paul Collection Electric Guitar is a GREAT GUITAR for $169.00 (The average selling price at the time of this review). The pickups, tune-o-matic bridge and stop piece are the same ones used in Epiphone's more expensive guitars, and are similar to what's used in much more expensive Gibsons. Although the tone adjustments have been simplified to a toggle between the three pickup combinations and an overall tone control for both pickups, this is not as big a deal as many might make of it. Given the vast array of other things that influence electric guitar sound -- strings, amp choice and settings, effects pedals and so forth -- the guitar sounds great as is.The finish and general fit and balance of the guitar are great. There was a time when budget guitars screamed cheap and were quite obviously low class in a lot of areas. Those days are past with the Epiphone LP Special II.All that said, there a few things to remember.*...

Epiphone Les Paul Special II
This is a great guitar. If you want a Les Paul styled guitar this is your guitar. Just be aware that just cuz it looks like a L.P. guitar does not mean that it will sound like the real thing (a Gibson L.P.) That was something I learned very quickly. Ha Ha. But all in all for the price this is a great looking, great feeling and good sounding guitar.

Nice entry-level guitar
Bought this guitar for my daughter as she was showing interest in learning how to play. When it arrived I was impressed by the quality of construction and the over-all attention to manufacturing detail. She was impressed by the sound and although I also purchased a set of 'easy' strings as she calls them, they were not needed as the strings that came attached were flexible enough not to cause finger pain.I had searched for quite some time to get a guitar for her and I have to admit I was tempted by a few which were cheaper but poor reviews here on Amazon swayed me the other way. I am very satisfied with this purchase because my daughter is satisfied and I would recommend this instrument to anyone looking for a beginners guitar.Next comes a case...

Exactly what I expected
Prior to purchasing this I did go to local stores and tried this and other entry level guitars. With no experience what so ever on guitar I had a vague idea of what I cared about. It had to fit, it had to sound good to me, and I had to like the look. In the end the DR-100 won out. I have owned it about a week at this point, I can play 2 chords correctly and 4 others correctly if I am extremely slow, and I know that I went the right direction. This guitar works for someone learning. It does stay in tune without major issues. Even having to re-tune each day takes very little adjustment. You WILL want to buy strings and swap them out. I could hear the issues more experienced players were pointing out and a $5 set of medium strings made that disappear immediately. I do think that the strings are a bit higher than a couple others I tried, but my feeling after a week of playing it is that this forces me to be careful and make sure where I am positioning my fingers (more...

Solid Guitar
A guitar for the ages. I used to play guitar over 8 years ago and for some reason, stopped playing and moved on to other things. Just recently, my friend bought a Gibson SG and it was pretty sharp looking. Although, my favorite guitar has always been the les paul. But alot of the gibsons are very expensive until now. At 300$, this is a steal. Everything I expected from Epiphone making a truely genuine les paul. The sound is great, the headstock has a nice bolt on neck look, the ebony finish looks as if it just came out of the shop that day, cool looking volume knobs and the chrome plate finishes. The only thing I would say is the strings will need to be replaced. Mine are a little worn, probably thats what they give you to start but no big deal. Stays in tune all the time and plays very easilly. Definetly would recommend it to any guitarist more or less and expert player but could be for begginers to. 5 stars!

Epiphone LP-100
I am a self taught beginner to intermediate guitar player, and always wanted a Les Paul but could never justify the expensive purchase of a Gibson given my skill level. Then I found this gem, and let me tell you that for beginners and intermediate players it is great! It looks absolutely stunning and plays very well.If you have a decent amplifier, you can truly judge the guitar, and I tell you I couldn't be happier with this purchase. And for $299...what a steal! It looks so similar to a Gibson LP; the shape and markings. I think that the lighter weight is a plus. If your skills outrun the stock pick-ups, you can upgrade and still enjoy this guitar for years to come. Also, I would like to comment about the packaging, as I had it shipped from Amazon to New York, and then forwarded to the Middle East. It travelled halfway across the globe and arrived with no damage which is very important when dealing with a sensitive instrument.Great job...

Happy at last!
My title is such because when Amazon shipped the guitar, I was sent the Cherry Sunburst model when I had ordered the Ebony! Amazon got me taken care of almost immediately, so I'm really happy about that.In any event, the guitar is a GREAT value for the money. It has great tone and sustain, the neck is fast and wide making it easier to play, especially if you have big hands. I had a Squier Strat Standard at one time and it does not even come close to this guitar (or the Epiphone SG-310 I had prior to the LP-100) in quality OR sound. There's just NO comparison.Speaking of the SG-310, I actually think it sounds a bit better than the LP-100, however, both are very versatile and can play just about any music. Quality and construction are excellent. This is NOT a "beginner" guitar. You can perform live with it and I think it will hold up fine for YEARS!I miss my SG and will most likely pickup another one very soon, but I don't regret getting another LP (I...

SG very special
Marvellous sound, true metal, perfect tone, superfast neck and a great quality of workmanship. nearly as good as a Gibson SG.
Top to learn more

vs. coil and maple wood
This guitar, when looked at from a technological point of view on produced sound, is ideal for a 'custom' metal sound. People say that the maple assists to the production of a ligther, thinner sound. The rosewood has no actual change to the sound. The humbuckers are more preferred to a coil, because it is responsible for a thicker sound. This combination is ideal if you belong to the metal, preferably death metal, genre.
