A great guitar for the price
First of all, 8th Street Music is extremely fast. I ordered this kit through Amazon.com, and the third party dealer was 8th Street Music. I ordered this thing on a Thursday morning, and it was on my doorstep Saturday! With regular shipping! There was absolutly no waiting to get started on this.It was packed very well. Nothing broken or chipped, all the pieces were there, and the instructions were helpful and informative.I really took my time painting it and cutting the headstock into a custom design. It took me a month to complete what with all the sanding, coating, resanding, extra color and clear coats, and polishing. Now you can put this guitar together right out of the box in about 30 minutes to an hour and have a working guitar, but who wants a plain old natural wood guitar when you can go crazy and make it into whatever you want? The body and neck come sealed, so you do not have to prep the wood or even use primer. It is ready to paint right... Top to learn more

Bargain guitar is low on price, big on quality
The beauty of Leo F's original electric guitar design is that anyone could assemble it's components into a finished electric guitar using hand tools, and basic mechanical skills. That makes kits based on his designs a great idea. The more time you want to spend learning how to adjust and set up your guitar, the better playing instrument you'll be rewarded with.I've been playing electric guitar for 30 years, and I did not find anything actually defective in this kit. The pickgaurd was slightly malformed, but it does not affect the playability in the slightest. The pickgaurd and tuners were a little cheap, and I chose to replace them, but they were certainly playable. The rest of the components were of very high quality, as good or better than anything coming from Fender's Mexico plant. The body has an extra tummy contour on the back, similar to an "S" style guitar, and the bridge is a top loader, instead of Leo's string-thru design. One area...

Good for What It Is
First of all, this is not a Fender Telecaster. It may look like one, but it's not one. It is, though, a very workable kit, fun to build, and sounds and plays reasonably well. In fact, it does have the Telecaster twang to it. In various reviews of Saga kits that you'll read on the Internet you'll read about cheap electronics and cheap strings. I wasn't thrilled with the strings that came with the kit I built, but they're not terrible. And, the potentiometers, wiring, and shielding may not be the greatest, but everything works, was pre-wired correctly, and the pickups are pretty strong and well balanced. It's a little tricky feeding the wires from the pickups into the chamber where the potentiometers and pick-up switch are, but assembling the Saga kits is not rocket science. This is about a half-a-step more difficult than the Saga PB-10 (electric bass) kit, but that's really only because of feeding wiring through channels and the fact that you need to be careful that you get the...

Saga TC 10 T style Kit
Plus side: Good wood. Appears to be some type of maple. All connections are quick connects, so no soldering required (although we encountered a few cold solders)Neck pocket fit easily our Fender Squire (Indonesian) Tele neck. (Cosmetic shim on one side)Wood finishes nicely to natural with caveats (See cons). The guitar intonates and plays well. Set up easily. The pickups are actually better than expected.Tone control is very strong, perhaps over the top. I will check the K on that one now that I have played it to see what they used.Neck fit well into pocket. Frets well placed and set. Neck is straight. We still intend on cutting the design in the headstock and interchanging them for fun.Con side: The springs on the bridge buzz on the low E because they are floating on the spring. The pickguard holes were drilled improperly causing it to be crooked. Currently not using pickguard. May dowel and redrill.Had to repair...

not bad for a cheap guitar
I decided after reading about these guitars on the net, to try and build my own. (go to guitarattack for examples) Not the highest quality guitar but more than suitable as a starter build. The neck is in great shape, the frets are smooth and well seated. The body does have the worlds strongest sanding sealer on it. I sanded the sealer down so that it wasn't that thick. There were a few bubbles under the sealer that I had to fill after sanding it down. The body itself was three pieces of basswood glued together. I've read others claim 5 or 6 pieces on theirs but mine had 3. by the way don't be afraid of basswood, alot of $500 and $600 guitars use this wood. At the time of writing this I haven't fully built the guitar so I can't comment of sound and the electronics. I did a dry fit and all the holes lined up and the neck fit the pocket fine. You can find these cheaper elsewhere but I trust amazon and their partners more than ebay anyday. It did ship in a flimsy box but didn't have any... Top to learn more

Striking a Middle Ground
I purchased one of these kits from an on-line seller several months ago and put it together. My review will strike a middle ground between the others that have already been written on Amazon.com. Compared with the Saga Telecaster copy kit (which I've also reviewed), this one actually is a bit easier to assemble. Most notably, feeding the wires through the pre-cut holes is considerably easier. The kit I received was wired correctly; however, I've read more than one review on the Internet from purchasers who have received badly wired kits, so maybe I was lucky. The body on my guitar was pretty nice looking, so I went with no paint, no stain, just lacquer clear coat. Clearly, the body consists of several pieces of wood put together, but it finished very nicely. Given my previous experience trying to stain a Saga P-bass kit and painting a Saga Tele kit, the natural look is the way to go. OK, so it might look a little like a cutting board -- just keep it out of the kitchen... The... Top to learn more

A Great Value for a Solid Instrument
I've been trying to seriously begin playing the guitar for a while, and I bought this one in hopes that spending money on an electric would motivate me more than just using the acoustic that I never had a rapport with. I bought this Silvertone as a starter kit, just looking for something solid and inexpensive. I settled on this one because most of the other guitars in the price range were Austin Bazaar, and Austin Bazaar seems to make very low-quality starter kits in hopes that people who don't know better will buy them. This guitar has done exactly what I wanted, I can't stop playing it. It comes with everything you need as a beginner--it's already stringed (with light gauge strings, which are good to start with), has a spare set of them as well, picks, amp, tuner, and cable. The only thing you could possibly want added would be a distortion pedal, but a beginner has bigger things to worry about.I have had no problems at all with the guitar. It is solid and... Good value product for money
hi, i am not a very good or expert guitar player. I am sort of advanced beginner. I found this product value for money. Also, few of my really expert friends played this guitar and they also liked it and it sounded good.In short i would say its a good value for money (119USD) with free shipping. It includes everything one needs to play in a small informal group of friends or for learning.you may change the strings and in my personal opinion a new beginner should go for this kind of electric instead of acoustics as they are somewhat easier to play compared to a basic/cheap acoustics.Hope this will be helpful for someone.thanks Top to learn more
Great set up
I purchased this for my son, who is 10. He has an acoustic guitar, but wanted to move on to the electric. I had looked at the Fender guitars that were being offered as a kit. The price tag was a tad bit too high for me (we bought this on sale for $100).Shipping was fast, the product came in a brown box, well packaged. The tuner is junk. We had to do some adjustments right out of the box, but not really a big deal. The high E strings continually were breaking, so we upgraded to Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings and we have not had a problem since. The sound is nice. The amp is a perfect size for having in a home (it is still too loud for me sometimes). This is a great guitar package for a kid. He can ding it, drop it and do whatever and as a parent feel better knowing that I didn't shell out 200+. Top to learn more

Great set up for beginners!
This is a great set up for beginners. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this package again. I can't find anything major to complain about, and my 11 year old son is loving his first electric guitar! An older person or someone who has more experience with guitars in general, may find this package lacking, as they most likely have all those little extras that this Fender comes with. I would recommend looking for a hard case, as I feel that the jam bag that comes with the guitar, won't protect it as well as a regular case. All in all, a great value! Top to learn more

Fantastic Buy For The Money
This is a nice quality guitar, which comes with a stand, pics, tuner, strings, strap and amplifier... can't beat the price. The picture shows there should be a guitar case with the pack, but it doesn't come with one, which seems a little deceiving. If they're not going to include the case, then don't show it in the picture. Other than that, it's a great quality guitar with all the needed accessories for a great price. Recommended! Starcaster breaks the mold!
The guitar looks beautiful- a fiery maple sunburst finish on a sturdy, well-finished wooden body; and it sounds even better, especially when hooked up to the amp! The strings take some getting used to, at least when one is a beginner, but they sound clear and crisp when plucked. The amp clarifies the sound enough that one can tell exactly which notes were hit and if a finger so much as brushed against the wrong string, magnifying the smallest vibrations produced by pick or fingers at the fret. And the tuner will help narrow down the correct tension in the string to produce an accurate note, although it sometimes takes a minute to work and seems to have trouble identifying the notes or the string. The pics cover the entire color spectrum. The stand and carrying case work perfectly. So far I have not used any extra strings, but they will probably be easy to affix when necessary and sound just the same as the original strings. The DVD that comes with it is OK, but it only has part of the... Top to learn more

Double-edged purchase
I got the guitar -fast- and was playing it the same day. I immediately noticed it would not stay in tune. This was curious, because at first I thought it was the way I was tuning it (Hadn't played in years, so possibly I was tuning it wrong, and when I was playing would find a note that stuck out and thus realized I mis-tuned it).Showed it to a buddy of mine from college, he let me know the neck was warped. Sure enough, holding it from the body and looking down the neck, there was a slight twist in the neck.He tried to warp it the other way with some special tools he had so he could fix it. With no success due to the severity of the warp, I started pricing new necks. Luckily the friend had a spare cheap mexican strat neck laying around and gave it to me.Plays good now.The amp is pretty good for the price surprisingly, and the guitar comes with an assortment of picks, a strap, and a gig bag.Anyone who receives this guitar,... Unlike guitars and basses, drum kits take up tons of space, so you won’t find a lot of assembled kits at a typical Guitar Center. The best drummer I’ve ever worked with had an old four-piece Ludwig kit and used cinder blocks to hold the bass drum in place. I was at guitar center the other day looking at kits, but 5 pice ones went up to $ 4500. My hi-hat is broken, my snare sounds like a piece of trash (literally) and my bass drum is thunderingly loud no matter how much you dampen it. I practice with a metronome, but my crappy kit that’s about to fall apart makes it difficult. Make friends with your drum teacher and ask if he can come by and help you set up your kit to get the maximum results with what you have. And most drummers replace hardware one piece at a time until they’ve cobbled together the kit they want/need. Because some drum kits cost thousands of dollars doesn’t mean there aren’t durable, user-friendly ones that sell for much less than that. If you do research before hitting stores, you’ll have a much better idea what to look for in a drum kit. I’ve worked with at least a half dozen drummers over the past 20 years, some of whom were session players, and none of them used a $ 4,500 kit. What should I do. I don’t think I can play with this kit much longer. You can also place a barrier in front of the kit to help with volume. You should have no trouble finding a rock-solid five-piece kit for less than $ 500 or $ 600. There are a LOT of great intermediate kits for under $ 1000. Both my parents agree that I’m ready for a more advanced kit, and so does my director.
