Great item and a great deal! :D
Almost all of our local school band and instrument instructors recommend this specific brand & model of sticks for drummers. I did my research with them on this . . . as well as website recommendations. These are a great buy!! Our local instrument stores charge much higher for these exact sticks. I bought my son has a pair for school and a pair for home use. :)

Good all around stick
Contrary to the name (SD1), the stick is not limited to the snare drum. While the sticks play well on the snare drum, producing particularly full buzz rolls, I prefer to use these sticks to play my drumset; because they are incredibly durable (I've used one pair for six years, playing at least an hour a week).PROS:DurableGood valueProduce full sounding buzz rollsGrip is flawlessCONS:A bit heavy for snare drum sticksDifficult to play softly (due to the weight)

awesome! :D
was thrilled to find this sort of custom LEGO set. :D now i don't have to buy multiple Punk Rocker or Popsinger minifigs in order to get all the guitars and microphones i need for a MOC i'm working on. saves me lots of money, and they're very nicely made. :D still, i'd definitely buy more of this set in the future as i intend to expand my LEGO band. =D

A great sounding kit
I really love this set, though I didn't at first. Many of the other sets from Toontrack feature more mics and have a larger set of samples. For example, a big kit in Metal Foundry is ~1800mb fully loaded, whereas C&V would only be 800. This is because C&V was produced before Superior 2.0 came out and was made with the previous DFH Superior version. While this kit has less samples, that doesn't make it any less well recored. The recordings themselves are amazing. I've had more than a few compliments on my snare sound and I more often than not, this was the source. With 20 snare options and 6 kicks, it's pretty easy to build a kit that is 'exactly' what you are looking/listening for. This kit was engineered by Peter Henderson, who does a terrific job as well on the 'Vintage Rock' expansion kit. You can also buy a Preset Pack for this expansion kit by him, and I highly recommend it. The expansion comes with 9 preset kits which sound really good. Because this kit is smaller, I do find it...

Product Description

Toontrack recorded Superior Custom & Vintage drum samples on equipment used to record an intriguing mix of historically significant pieces. A 1964 design EMI TG Desk console (an ex-Abbey Road piece) with a 28-channel/16 configuration that was used for The Beatles' "Abbey Road" and Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon." Germanium Transistor mic pre's were used in conjunction with vintage Neumann, AKG, and Sennheiser mics. One of the Neumanns--the U87--featured a Helios F760 compressor, the kind used during the legendary recordings of Led Zep, The Who, The Stones, and even at Apple Corps--the Beatles own studio. Just knowing that, you can see how this collection is going to have a nostalgic feel to it.Chris Whitten, a drummer associated with Edie Brickell and the New Bohemian's "What I Am" as well as Sir Paul's "Flowers in the Dirt" album, and many other top-tiered entertainers, laid down the beats for this library using a selection of kits that range from the 20's to the 90's. But the majority of gear leans towards the glory years of rock and roll. Capturing his work for Toontrack was Peter Henderson who started his career as a pupil of the great Geoff Emerick (Sgt. Pepper, Abbey Road, etc.) and went on to win a Grammy with Supertramp (Breakfast in America) and to work the boards for the likes of Zappa, Jeff Beck, Tina Turner, and Ringo. So what does this mean for you? You've got 32GB of incredible, top-notch drum samples to give your music that old-school feel. Whether you want that deeper-toned ride of Zildjian's 1950's 22" ride or the spark of three of the most recorded snare drums (the Slingerland Radio King, Ludwig's Black Beauty and Supraphonic), or the sound of the 1970's provided by a Slingerland Studio King kit, you can find it all and more inside this extensive assemblage of all-star, all-time gear. This isn't your father's gear, but it sure sounds like it. Top to learn more

The Rousing Drum: Ritual Practice in a Japanese Community

Product Description

Ritual is too often equated with unvarying and repetitive behavior. This impression is encouraged by the ethnographic tendency toward an overly narrow time frame, which highlights current relationships and conditions rather than long-term developments. THE ROUSING DRUM takes a different view. It adopts a historical perspective encompassing several hundred years in exploring the role of ritual as an effective medium for negotiating sociopolitical and economic change.

The setting is Furukawa, a town located in Japan's mountainous interior. Every spring the local Shinto shrine festival provides an opportunity for enacting social relationships and attitudes. By day, a portable shrine containing the spirit of the guardian deity is escorted through town in a stately procession. At night, however a different scenario unfolds. A barrel-shaped drum is borne through the streets on a massive grid-like platform. Prominent members of the community are obliged to ride upon the platform, while teams of young adults rush out and attack it as it passes through their respective neighborhoods. The action can become quite unruly, and random fights and injuries are accepted as inevitable correlates.

In analyzing the festival over time, Schnell reveals a dramatic transformation. The drum ritual, which originated as a minor preliminary to the other events, emerged during the late 1800s as an occasion for airing hostilities and settling scores. As Japan's modernization progressed, the ritual performance came to embody a symbolic challenge to institutionalized authority, and occasionally escalated into politically motivated violence. While the religious ceremonies observed during the day were appropriated by local power holders, the night-time drum ritual represented a folk response to the officially sanctioned liturgy. The festival as a whole thus represented the clash of competing ideologies within the context of a single public forum. Today's ritual, rather tame by comparison, is being transformed into a tourist attraction aligned with the town's economic development objectives.

Schnell's careful examination of the ethnohistorical data offers a valuable new perspective on Japanese festivals as well as the events and conditions that influence their development. His innovative look at ritual behavior over time persuades us that we can grasp the underlying significance of such activities only if we consider them within the context of larger historical patterns. Great idea for a drumstick
Until I came upon the Vic Firth Bolero I used all kinds of light jazz sticks made of hickory and on the thin side. The last of these was the Firth 8D, but I haven't touched a stick of that kind since giving the Bolero a try. Here's the deal: you get something fat in the hand, therefore easy to grasp, but with the weight of a light jazz stick, and a small round tip that yields a precise, delicate cymbal ping---to my ear, the most beautiful cymbal sound available. Additional virtues: the substantial amount of maple in the stick does not convey the usual shock of impact to the hand, and the tips last a lot longer than those on any other stick I've used. The Bolero improved my playing and increased my comfort on the instrument. Not a stick for hard-rockers, but anyone else should give it a try. It may suit your needs as well as it suits mine. I wouldn't want to play anything else. (Though I wish Firth would reissue its Super Bolero, which was a bit longer.) To sum up: big stick, light...

Inexspensive, quality snare drum sticks.
The SD2 Bolero drumsticks are, simply put, a great value. The wood is comfortable and the sticks do not slip or slide (out of position), while playing. The highlight of the stick is the tremdously full sound, which is produced from even the softest roll. The disproportional tip, as compared to the "generic" stick, is great for soft, crisp playing. Overall, a great stick for the price.

Custom Drums

We took out the blue aluminium drum on a couple of gigs, and what a stonking drum it proved. EcHo now makes snare drums using brass, aluminium, carbon steel and copper - and complete kits from aluminium. Tube lugs and triple-flanged or die-cast hoops are bought in. The four review drums line up as follows. The finish is Gloss Arctic White (inside and out), engraved with a custom Celtic pattern and it also boasts a customised brass nameplate - 'The Gaffer' - 24-carat gold die-cast hoops and tube lugs. Review Based in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester, EcHo is the father and son team of Dave Quinn Sr and Jr. EcHo began when Dave Jr, keen drummer and coded welder, made his first aluminium snare. Build The snares are hand-made, utilising highest certified metals, with punched (not drilled) holes, hand-spun bearing edges and pressed (crimped) snare beds. We mention this because these UK-made drums all arrived perfectly tuned - and they sounded to die for, every one of them. All four drums are fitted with excellent Fat Cat steel snare wires. Hands On All our drums came with Evans Power Centre Reverse Dot batters and Evans Hazy 200 resonants. Triple-flanged hoops are chrome plated and the 10 lugs are solid machined in aluminium/stainless steel.
