Vandoren Traditional Bb Clarinet Reeds #3, Box of 10
I bought these through a different online store for my daughter, she swears by them for the beginner. She has moved on a bit since then and has tried many of the major brands but came back to the Vandoren. She has used 3 types of Vandoren the Traditional when she first started, the 56 rue Lepic, and now the V.12 as it fits her style of playing.Vandoren clarinet reeds are consistent in quality and have a good life.Well worth buying

Excellent reeds for beginners
I bought these reeds with a brand new Selmer prelude clarinet hoping I could teach myself to play the clarinet and get the nice tone I wanted.BUT then I was afraid that I made a wrong purchase because I've been hearing that Vandorens are harder to play on and that they're actually half a strength harder than the other brands so I also purchased 2.5 and 2.0 Rico Royal reeds. 2.0 just sounded so buzzy. 2.5 was okay but it felt too soft on my mouth and looking at my tuner, the notes came out a bit flat. I finally decided to open my 2.5 strength Vandorens (and it is true that it is thicker and stiffer by a very very veeeery small margin) and after wetting the reed for about a minute in my mouth, it sounded so great! I played a perfectly pitched full scale the very very first time I tried it! I've had the clarinet for an hour and the Vandorens on for 15 minutes and I've picked up basic tunes already.

Great beginning reeds!
These reeds are very easy to work with, and they also maintain a good quality sound. For beginners this is an excellent purchase, though as time goes on of course you have to switch to higher reeds.

Sound nice, with great price
These are $34.00+tax here where I live. Can't beat this price, even on ebay. I will continue to buy them here for my daughter. These are a big upgrade from the Rico's she started with last year. Thank you Amazon for making music affordable.

Information About Reeds To Use
There are a lot of good reviews about reeds and Rico reeds specifically. Instead of just telling you how good the Rico #2 reed is I will give a review and address questions about reeds in general. First is what reed do you use first? If you are already playing then you probably already know that answer. If you are a professional then you have that answer too. If you are just beginning then this will help you. I went to Rico themselves and spoke with an expert so I could give you the information you needed. Personally, the Rico #1 1/2 is a great place to start as one reviewer has already mentioned. If you played before, put your clarinet away and are starting back as I am. I used to use a 3 1/2 Mitchell Lurie which is made by Rico as the expert told me. Then there is the new Plasticover reeds which are made with both cane and plastic and they taste terrible...YUCK!...lol. The plastic reeds are great for the outside such as marching band. I wish I had them when I was in the marching...

Rico Bb clarinet Reeds
I play clarinet, and highly recomend Rico reeds because they don't crack or snap easily. If you are a beginner at Clarinet, buy the 2 size 10 pack of reeds. Most people can use that size. Very good, after a year I still have some reeds left. I highly recomend these.

Good For the Beginning Player
I have always found Ricos to be acceptable beginner reeds for students in their first year or two playing. The reeds are fairly consistent, and the lower price means that breaking a reed is not too much of an expense for whomever is footing the bill for reeds (teacher, student, school, parent...). The provided plastic cases do a good job protecting the reed, as long as they are not pushed in too far. I usually move students to Rico Royal or Vandoran after their first full year or two. Amazon does have excellent prices on reeds - definitely recommend buying here!

Nice alternative to more expensive reeds
My son likes these just as well, if not better, than the more expensive alternatives. I find they do produce a nice tone, but don't last quite as long.

Great Brand
Personally, I use the Vandoren V-12 #4.0 as a Music Education graduate. My cousin who is in high school uses the 3.5 and sounds great. Good quality and great price here on Amazon!!!

Amazing
These reeds give a very nice, warm, and dark sound. It's very easy to articulate with them. They also break in very easily, and are very consistent. These reeds also last very long. I LOVE THESE REEDS. V12 FOR LIFE

Extremely happy customer!!
These reeds give me that beautiful dark tone, characteristic of the clarinet, but unfortunately they are a little bit more expensive than a regular Vandoren reed. Thanks to Amazon though, I was able to buy them at such a reasonable price! I've searched EVERYWHERE and this is the cheapest price you can find them at! It's definitely worth those few extra dollars!

We get these reeds for my daughter that plays the Clarinet. We have been getting Vandoren since half way through her first year and absolutely love them. They perform better, they hold up long, and even though they cost more than Ricco, they are around alot longer. If you have a clarinet player that is serious about being good, use this brand reed.

Clarinet Reed

I am using one case now for my tenor reeds and I just bought another one to use for bari and bass clarinet reeds. Having put that all out there, I can tell you that I would definitely recommend the Rico Reed Vitalizer Case to anyone looking for a reed storage solution. The case comes with stickers to help keep up with which reed case goes with which instrument. The case can hold any size reed from Eb clarinet to baritone saxophone. I was a little put off at first with the idea of having to buy humidity packs on a regular basis, but it looks like keeping my reeds in this case will actually save me money in the long term. Having this case means that you’ll have to regularly purchase the humidity packets (Reed Vitalizer Packs). I had given the folks at Rico Reeds some feedback about one of their products and they sent the case as a thank you gift for my input. The humidity pack that goes in the case has kept my reeds in good playable condition.

At its San Fernando Valley facility, Rico has a state-of-the-art reed research center, and employs the collaboration of agronomists, scientists, and musicians to produce top-quality reeds that include Rico Reserve premium reeds for clarinet and... Rico Plasticover Bb Clarinet Reeds, Strength 3. Many of the world’s finest clarinetists and saxophonists use Rico brand reeds, such as Anthony McGill, Mark Nuccio, Jessica Phillips, Jerry Bergonzi, Chris Potter, Benny Golson, Ernie Watts, Bob Sheppard, Walter Boeykens, Seiji Yokokawa, Philippe...

As much as I would like to romanticise my affair with the clarinet, the battle with reeds and mouthpieces in particular put a dampner on things. But this reed stands for everything that stood between me and jamming with Satchmo because the reality is, however much we picture that perfect sound, liquid phrasing and pure tone, it all has to come through this rough piece of wood. I thought it would be swell to stand in the reeds and play as the sun was going down. A perfect reed would go limp in the days leading up to a performance. A wayward reed would deliver a squeek at the wrong moment and ruin everything. Finding this reed brought back a whole load of memories. My unsatisfactory backup reeds would have to be broken in or painstakingly sanded and trimmed, often to the point of being unusable.

most players find their reeds will play until the tips finally succumb to fatigue and fall apartSelecting A Rovner Ligature Due to the design of the Rovner ligatures, they fit a wide range of mouthpieces. About Rovner Ligatures Rovner Ligatures also greatly improve reed playability.
