very interesting
This book is the most amazing book I have come across, so far, that deals with Contemeporary Clarinet. It has an extensive finger chart for all clarinets and covers mutiphonics and quarter tone notes as well. Extensive Bibliography and works index.A must for all serious clarinettists.

For composers AND clarinet players
Phil Rehfeldt's "New Directions for Clarinet" is a great resource for any composer or performer interested in extended clarinet techniques. I've used it a number of times to find the fingerings for multiphonics when writing clarinet pieces. Although the book was written several years ago, it remains an important work for anyone interested in exploring the vast possibilites of the clarinet. I highly recommend it.

Product Description

Phillip Rehfeldt has assembled here techniques of dealing with clarinet performances as they have evolved since 1950. He catalogs contemporary practices that differ from those formerly standardized, provides perspective on performance capabilities and limitations, and includes suggestions for performance based on his own experience.

The new edition has been completely rewritten, corrected where necessary, and updated. Rehfeldt has added the complete list of William O. Smith's clarinet compositions and recordings to the previous listing of his early multiphonic fingerings. The new edition also includes an appendix containing Eric Mandat's quarter-tone fingerings; a second, extensive music bibliography, the "International Update"; and an updated and annotated bibliography of music literature. Customer Review

Excellent instruction!
I purchased the clarinet book, Saxophone 1 and 2, and the Performance piece book for Saxophone. Each book comes with a CD. I'm not as impressed with the CD as a parent because the musician plays quicker and not necessarily the same notes that are within the book. However, my child enjoyed playing along with the songs on the CD. It gave her the feeling of being at a concert. My daughter was already experienced when she went to her new school and the band teacher had to adjust what to teach her. Instead of using a book that was set up for another school that appeared to have songs that weren't challenging or fun, she chose to use these series of books to teach her. The teacher was very impressed with the entire set. A few minor errors were in the books but she said they weren't a big deal. My daughter then moved up into a different grade and had these books still in her bag. The new teacher at the new school saw these books and loved them so much that he's considering the idea of using...

Clarinet New

Christopher's band, Clarinet Road, was an all-star affair, powered by an astounding New Orleans rhythm section --- Shannon Powell on drums, and Don Vappie doubling on bass and guitar. Christopher also welcomed New York trumpeter Jon-Erik Kellso to the stage. This was the show not to miss if you wanted a taste of the grand past of New Orleans music --- and a peek at the Creole glories of its future. And he was a congenial front line partner, weaving whispers and squeezed blue notes around Christopher's vaulting clarinet lines.

Nicole, we are just as proud of you as your parents are and we wish you the best of luck in your exciting new adventure. We just wanted to let you know that your camper of 4 years, Nicole Balm, (Jr and Sr honor musician of NEMC), auditioned and was accepted into the McGill University’s Schuligh School of Music this fall 2012. We always enjoy reading about our campers’ successes and are so grateful when parents or kids write to us with fantastic news.

Sometimes we go through life and learn a new skill or hobby, only to drop it out of boredom, or lack of time, or money to devote to it. If you are lucky, that hobby has a way of finding its way back into your life and catching your attention again. I was the winning bidder of a refurbished Noblet 45 wooden clarinet form the 1960′s and an older metal Noblet clarinet from the 1930′s. I bought cushions for the bench, plugged in an oscillating fan, and put in new bulbs into the light fixture. After a month of clarinet lessons, I began to play better and I moved my music area outside onto the front porch of a little shed. I set up a music area in the upstairs guestroom and began to play “Hot Cross Buns” and “Jingle Bells” from my “Accent on Achievement: Clarinet Book 1. ” I gathered my music stand and clarinet and sat in the practice room in front of the saxophones and to the right of the percussion section. I started searching Ebay for a clarinet with the idea that it would be fun to play again. ” Did I mention that dressing up is another hobby for me. My search for a clarinet began. I searched online and read through the clarinet bulletin boards about numerous theories on what mouthpiece and reed combination is best. Yolanda was to the right of me with her R13 Buffet (one of the best-made clarinets around).   The clarinet was sold and I never thought about it again for 27 years.
