Great head, false description!!
This head is great!! Exactly the low end thump I was looking for! Evans has always made quality heads and this one does not disappoint. I have mine coupled with the Onyx 2 batterhead (black) and they make a great looking set as well as a sonically matched set. As close to perfect as you can hope for.Buyer, beware the description, as you DO NOT get the interchangeable rings. Evans has since made a newer version with a fixed ring and lower port hole placement!! Know what you are buying!! Amazon and Evans needs to update the description!!Definately recommend this head if you are looking for that low end missing from other heads. 5 stars for quality and functionality!!!!!

Great head, but not the one pictured
The EMAD head is a great head with good tone and low end.But beware the picture and description is not accurate, the head you will most likely receive would be the newer "revised" head. The mic port has moved to the 4-5 o'clock position, instead of the 2 o'clock pictured, as well as Evans has taken the interchangeable rings and replaced them with an attached ring. Also making the port itself smaller (4" instead of 5").I didn't use the rings on my head because I felt I got more of a thump without them, as well as I've heard they fall apart anyways. So with the old head and the revised head its difficult to get them at the same pitch, very close but not exact, for me anyways. Of course I'm no Bob Gatzen at drum tuning. So if you're trying to order to match a head on a double bass drum setup, order two, but if not, and you want a great head with mic accessibility without cutting your own hole, and low end thump this is a great head.

Amazing
Awesome head! I put this on my Pearl Vision drum and was so happy I upgraded the standard head. I'll spare you the technical detail. But I will tell you this, the guys setting up the sounds were extremely impressed by the sound of my set and I knew it was in part due to the bass. It was awesome to just see them impressed when I was just playing some basic rock beats for a quick sound test.

Great drumhead
I got this drumhead paired with the EMAD resonant head. At first I thought the sound was a bit boomy, even with the damping rings (it comes with two different sized rings). Then I put a small blanket/towel inside, barely resting it on the beater head. Now it's punchier, but still every bit as loud as it was before.Definitely a good head for those who like short, punchy kick sounds.

The Emad drum batter head is the best there is.
Aimed at most all drummers except for maybe jazz guys.I play country, pop, & rock, and have 18,20,22, & 24" bass drums, all of which benefited greatly from the Emad. The Emad will tame overtones, and give you a lower pitched thump.Works equally well with a closed or ported resonant heads. It comes with two foam deadening rings for a little damping or a lot.The smaller ring has always been just the ticket for me.Highly recommended!

Best kick drum head I've ever tried
I have an Aquarian Super Kick II and a Remo Power Stroke 3. But this one has them both beaten by a mile. What a powerful thud you get here. I'm sure results may vary from drum to drum, but I'm a believer in this head.

A classic sound, short in sustain. Tension it tight for a real thump or loose and slappy. Two plies sandwich a thin film of oil that supresses unwanted overtones. Top to learn more

Mediocre
I love Evans drum heads & have had nothing but success with them, which makes this head surprisingly mediocre. I've got this on my 22" maple bass with an Evans retro screen reso head and an Evans EQ muffler pad inside & this head still doesn't thump. The sound is too bright, open, and weak for my taste. I switched back to the EMAD2, which gives a solid, loud thump without fail. Skip this head.

Great Head!
Ive had this head a couple weeks now. It sounds very boomin. i put a gibralter click pad on it and oh yeah great sound. i play hard rock/metal and do alot of double kick. The first head i recieved was TORN so i had to send it back and they sent me another which was in perfect shape. it did take me awhile to recieve one in good shape but im satisfied with it.

Customer Review

He likes it!!
Since I am an old lady, I can't properly review this drumhead. I bought it for my daughter's boyfriend who plays in a very heavy metal band. However, I am pleased to announce that he is very happy with it. He really likes the response to his double kick and the sound is definitely what he is looking for with his genre of music. We added a kickport to the bass and he's in heaven.

Awesome

A valuable addition to any drummer's library
Think of this book as "Stick Control" for the feet. It's more than just speed and endurance exercises for the bass drum, although that is part of it. There are also many exercises that alternate between the hands and feet. These help develop hand/foot separation and coordination, and they have inspired me to incorporate the kick drum into fills more often. There is also a neat section that incorporates the bass drum into the rudiments. I am a single pedal player, but the exercises can be easily adapted for double bass. Just alternate the kick beats wherever you wish. I've been practicing the exercises for just about a week, and already I've seen improvement. I wish I had gotten this book years ago. Highly recommended.

Great book, students love this
Great book, I joke to my students saying the guy looks like such a dork but listen to this cd.... they listen to some of the endurance exercises and his solo and are totally blown away. Going to take a look at "The Encyclopedia of Double Bass Drumming" byBobby Rondinelli, Michael Lauren next. That seems very good too.For double bass I suggest, Double Bass Drumming [Paperback] by Joe Franco. It's the red book, very cheap and has been the standard (even since I was a student)And obviously, 4-Way Coordination: A Method Book for the Development of Complete Independence on the Drum Set(just sub the hi-hat left foot for the double bass)It's a bit dry so be careful giving to young or/and immature students, recommended for 7-8th grade and up at least. All of these 4 books are pretty much all one aspiring drummer would need from beginner, to college level, for FEET techniques. Also suggest doing stick control with feet subbing...
