solid
All the classics are here. I particularly like the fact it sounds like they are playing in a concert hall-makes the drones all the more impressive. Only complaint-it does not list which bands/pipers contributed to the cd.

If you like bagpipe music...
A MUST add to your collection if you're a fan of all things Scottish. A good mix of chosen songs..especially Amazing Grace and the recordings are clear and precise. They don't fade in and out like some other bagpipe Cd's. You won't be disappointed if you chose this CD.

Not a bad little chanter.
I had a friend who played the bagpipes and sometimes played a chanter during breaks at work so I got interested in trying one out. It seems to be a fairly good quality instrument. The wood looks nice and the joints use thread rather than cork. Not surprisingly, it has a plastic reed as a wood reed cost more than the chanter. My brother doesn't like the sound but I think it sounds much like other chanters. The only thing I didn't like was that the ornate metal "bell" was unnecessarily heavy for me. Overall, I like it.

Worth it
I got this chanter not expecting much. It has a good sound and decently manufactured. The reed that came with it was not so good, but getting a replacement is inexpensive. If you want to start somewhere with bagpipes, start here. It is quiet as it is a practice chanter.

Okay, but surprised the mouth piece is cracked!
Rcv'd item prompty. Unfortunately the mouth piece was cracked. We used it before noticing, so don't feel that it is fair to return and/or worth the hastle, but surprised that it came in that condition. Oh well...you get what you pay for. One of the cheaper one's on line. Testing to see if Bagpipes is for us...still trying it out. Comments welcome!

Bagpipes

Some may be because I love Scotland [ see running love letter to Scotland ] and it also may be because of the NYRR themed races, this one is really fun and festive. Such was the case at Saturday's New York Road Runners Scotland Run w hen I arrived late to Central Park with my running friend (and sometimes guest blogger) Kai MacMahon. Actually you didn't pass those 4000 runners, because the place is based on the time it took you to complete the race (difference between finish crossing and start crossing), not your "gun time". I placed 3,311 overall out of 7,902 finishers, which means starting absolutely last of the pack, I passed 4,609 runners as I made my way around the outer loop of Central Park to the finish. I ran a personal best for a 10K at the 2011 Scotland run with 54:54 and beat that in 2012 with a 53:03. re thinking about that and how we can encourage our runners to come here and your runners to come over to Scotland,&rdquo. This run is a real festive celebration with music and dancing and I think the whole fun atmosphere is a good recognition of the strong ties between Scotland and the U. S. ,&rdquo. It was a great race for me. I always get my best results when I run with a friend who's faster than me and when I just stop thinking about trying to beat a past time. If you had actually passed 4000 runners you'd have had to run in the huge crowd in the middle of the pack. The event is part of a week of Scotland-themed festivities in the city dubbed Tartan Week  that caps off this weekend with the Tartan Day parade. I think the moral of this running story may be that I should start more races dead last.

Many people began to associate bagpipes with Scotland after World War I and World War II, because the Scottish trained large numbers of bagpipers for military service during those two wars. They might not sound exactly like true bagpipes, but you’ll have fun making them and you’ll have a much better understanding of how real bagpipes work. When a player starts to play the bagpipes, the drones emit one continuous sound that the melody is played over with the chanter. Although there are hundreds of different types of bagpipes , most consist of the same basic elements: an air supply, a bag, a chanter and a drone. In fact, when you see someone playing the bagpipes, they’re often wearing a traditional Scottish outfit, including a kilt. If you’re not very musical, you could instead make yourself an outfit to wear, in case you ever get the chance to play the bagpipes or go to Scotland. Scottish hat Scottish kilt Wonder words to know and use:  bagpipes. Click through How to Make Bagpipes out of a Garbage Bag and Recorders to see step-by-step directions. Of all the different types of musical instruments, the bagpipes have one of the most unique sounds. This is why most bagpipe music has no rests (pauses) in the music. Bagpipes produce music from enclosed reeds that are supplied with a constant stream of air held in a bag. Bagpipers blow air through a blowpipe into a bag, which could be made of animal skin or more modern synthetic materials.
