will entertain and teach for years
This is one of the best toys I've ever seen. I don't care for most of the newfangled plastic, electronic toys...most of them are junk. This one, however, is well-designed and will entertain a baby as well as even a 5 or 6 year old, in my opinion. I used to teach music at the elementary school level, and I think my kindergarteners and first-graders would have loved it.The controls are all easy enough to operate that even a 9-month-old (the suggested earliest age) can operate them easily...none of them require too much strength or dexterity, for instance. It teaches real musical concepts (high vs low, fast vs slow, etc) and has an actual, properly-working piano keyboard. The keys work like a real piano's does; if I press down 2 or 3 or 4 keys, they will all sound together, and the sound quality is like an actual piano, not a buzzy toy. There are so many different modes (there are three main modes, but when you turn the music "page" it brings up different...

Product Description

Little ones can rock out with their very own Baby Grand Piano! This pint-sized piano teaches numbers and colors, as well as exposes them to musical concepts like tempo, pitch and style. Baby is encouraged to play and learn with the eight light-up keys and four activities with four songs led by a dancing character and "magic" music book. Features three modes: Learning, Musical Fun and Imagination. Requires 3 "C" batteries (not included). Measures 19" x 17" x 17". Adult assembly required. Top to learn more

There’s nothing like watching small children fall in love with music. This baby grand will play Cupid to a toddler’s relationship to music. Just the right size for little fingers, with bright colors, lights, and familiar songs and learning concepts; kids will need no introduction before getting in there and starting to tickle those ivories! Three modes of play encourage children to enjoy music, learn basic concepts (alphabet, counting, opposites, etc.), or just play notes and chords on the eight-key keyboard. A plastic songbook (built into the piano) uses numerals on musical notation to teach aspiring musicians the correlation between the sounds they hear, the notes on the page, and the keys on the keyboard. Slides and buttons and dials can be manipulated to adjust tempo, pitch, and style, while a metronome keeps time. And a friendly maestro monster looms over the piano, dancing as your artiste creates composes her or his opuses. The music, as with so many children’s toys, is moderately unpleasant—nursery rhymes meet lounge jazz—but not the worst you’ll ever hear. And the joy toddlers will get out of playing their own melodies, as well as the potential for learning, far outweighs the burden of listening to cheesy tunes. Or you can just keep it in note-playing mode, and skip the pre-recorded tunes altogether! Three "C" batteries required (not included). Some adult assembly is required. --Emilie Coulter Top to learn more

We like it....but stay within hands reach with younger babies
My daughter just received this baby grand piano from her grandparents as a baptism present. She is 10 months old and really seems to like it. The piano does so many things and I forsee her having a lot of fun with it and am happy that I suggested it for a present. The reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is that my daughter, who is just learning to stand and cruise, stood up with the piano and she must of put to much weight towards the middle of the piano, while I was reaching for the camera, because the piano tobbled end over end with her following it. The piano started to do the same thing right after that when she tried to stand. She wasn't hurt, more scared then anything, but I would have thought it would be sturdy enough to handle her putting a little weight in the middle of it. I still recommend the piano, but stay within hands reach if your baby can't walk and keep themselves fairly steady on their own.

Schoenhut Child's piano
I actually am very disappointed in the piano. Too small for 3-5. My twin granddaughters fall constantly off the seat. The sound coming from it is so piercing and tinny, was really surprised how horrible it sounds.

Perfect for a 3 year old
After reading the reviews for this item, I was nervous to purchase it, but it was exactly what I had hoped it would be. It's an absolutely beautiful TOY and my daughter loves to play it. It looks just like a baby grand piano and it's just her size. It was easy to put together; my only complaint is that one of the keys all the way to the right is stuck and you have to push it harder than all the rest. Does it sound like a toy piano? Yes. Is your child going to magically sound like Schroeder from the Peanuts? No. Most of the complaints in the reviews were that it sounded like a toy, but I'm not sure what people expect from a toy. As a musician myself, I would obviously prefer a richer tone more in tune, but for a 3 year old toy, it's absolutely perfect for playing and sitting at. It will make her more comfortable should she choose to play a real one in the future. So as a toy, 2 enthusiastic thumbs up.

Sweet Little Piano
Overall we love this piano. It's perfect for my home and for my child, a typical two-year-old girl who loves music. We bought ours for around $80 with free shipping (from an Amazon seller). It's positively adorable and my daughter loves sitting on the bench which is just her size, and she loves experimenting with sound. As others have noted, this is a xylophone-piano. Rather than strings, it has rods. Presumably that is to improve durability and keep us from having to tune it. This does have a big effect on the sound, though. If sound is very important to you, you will probably need to go for an electronic keyboard, though that wouldn't have nearly the aesthetic quality in the playroom. The look and quality of the materials are better than average for most toys (I can't compare to other children's pianos). We usually buy Melissa and Doug, Haba, Target brands, and others. I would say this compares well. The size of the piano would fit most...

Best gift for your little "Schroeders!"
My little "Schroeder" is 18 months and he LOVES this toy piano. The piano itself is very cute and classic looking. It really is a miniature baby grand. The keys are easy for kids to play on and they are quite soft-sounding - which is a good thing since most toddlers don't quite know the difference between playing and pounding! My kid learned to sit on the bench rather quickly and enjoys sitting and playing the keys several times a day. For a kid that tires of toys rather quickly, I'd call this toy piano a success.Shipping was easy and fairly quick and setting up took no time at all.

Very Creative Toy!
Purchased this one for my 3 year old Granddaughter...She said she wanted a piano, and when we showed it to her on the computer, we asked her if she wanted the pink one or the black one. She whispered "The black one". I found that interesting..I believe she has seen a "real" piano and it must have impressed her a lot. She wanted a "real" piano. Although 2 of the keys on the higher notes tend to stick together, hopefully over time, they may settle in.. This is well made for a toy and she immediately sat down and sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and "played" her piano. She loves it..and hopefully it may encourage her artistic nature..you never know what impresses children. And the price was fantastic! Thanks. I do have a video of her playing, but didn't want to put it out there without her mother's permission. It's adorable, though. Trust me.

Product Description

How many children have their "very own" Baby Grand Piano? Encourage your child to be creative at the piano and he will be composing and playing ballads just like Schroeder in the comic strip "Peanuts". This unique miniature version is designed to encourage the very young to play and develop a love of music. Chromatically tuned with a full two-octave span, small hammers strike metal rods, producing lovely chime-like tones. The piano never gets out of tune and the tone never changes. The Learning System, with its play-by-color assortment of songs, is designed to bring immediate success. A removable color-coordinated strip fits behind the keys to guide small fingers from chord to chord. As your child learns and grows, the color strip can be transferred to a larger piano, since the keys on Schoenhut Toy Pianos are of corresponding width. This teaches children proper "finger stretch" from the very beginning. The accompanying Songbook contains a collection of familiar tunes. This Learning System has been specially designed to build a child's confidence and develop basic playing skills. Top to learn more

My granddaughters love it!
I purchased this for my 6 year old granddaughter for Xmas who was frustrated trying to play 'music' with the kazoo-like thing she was given to use at school. My son was doubtful she would like it due to her bad experience to date with music. Within a few minutes after setting it up, she was playing Silent Night and other songs in the book that came with the piano. The key chart system provided allowed almost instant reward for her efforts to play recognizable tunes. My 8 year old granddaughter also enjoys playing it when she can get the little one away from it. This system is a great introduction into playing the piano, and, because key spacing is regular size, what it learned with it can be carried over to a keyboard or regular piano. I couldn't be happier, and my granddaughter is enjoying making music.

Be Ready to Tinker
My husband and I bought this piano for our 2-year-old daughter for Christmas. We know how she loves to pound on Grandma's piano, and we were impressed that these toys have all the notes in the right places. If you learn to play a song on one of these toys, you can play it on a "real" piano, too!The assembled toy is cute, comes with a handy color-coded bar that explains which key is which and corresponds to colors in their mini songbook that came with the piano: good so far. However, we would never have known what a cute piano this is if my husband weren't a handy guy. Upon first assembly, the keys wouldn't work. My husband spent a couple hours putting this piano together Christmas Eve and getting it to work.Don't be fooled by the German brand! This toy is made in China, and it really showed in the assembly. If you have had trouble assembling things in the past, look for a used or pre-assembled piano. This one isn't for you.

Great little piano for young kids
We bought this piano for my two year old daughter as a Christmas present and have been very happy overall. The piano is absolutely adorable- something you wouldn't mind having hang around the living room- and it was pretty straight forward to put together. When I read the reviews for the product, there were a couple complaints about sound quality. It sounds like a children's piano, but we weren't looking for anything professional. I think my only complaints about the product are the piano bench is a little hard for small children to balance themselves on and the piano has a smooth black finish which shows a lot of fingerprints. But then again, so does everything else when you have little ones so you just get used to wiping it down!

SO GLAD I BOUGHT THIS IT IS WONDERFUL !!!
I bought his piano for my 16 month old granddaughter. She plays this every day. I was glad that I read many reviews. The quality is just perfect, I would not really consider this a toy. My son and daughter-inlaw did not add the colored stickers that it comes with because she is to young. However where she loves it so much I don't think it will be long before she is reading the numbers and following the song book. Her male cousins 4,7,9, also would not leave it alone! Enjoy

Great gift!
My 18 month old daughter recieved this as a gift. I was concerned, because the box said ages 3+, but she enjoys it very much. The finish is fantastic on it... I can actually see reflections in it. It is very sturdy and she has a lot of fun "playing" it. The color coded strip and book that comes with it will be nice when she is actually old enough to learn piano, but until then I put it up so it doesn't get torn up. I would highly recommend this piano if you are wanting to pass down a music talent to your child. It is a beautiful peice of furniture and would be a great herritage item to pass down from generation to generation.

Not perfect but does its job
I wanted to get a keyboard for our 2 year old son. We decided to go with this because not only you can play notes, there are preset songs and beats that you can mix with the songs. I wasn't as concerned about getting real looking piano as much as just getting something fun for him.Pros:Relatively cheapMany buttons to play with, and different types of soundsYou can even record your own playingMicrophone is awesomeSeveral pre-recorded songs that you can play with push of a buttonCons:It is flimsy, although I never had problem with it falling down or falling apart or anything. The stool slides easily so it's hard for my toddler to sit down on his own.Piano sound is not authentic, and if you try to play more than one note at a time, it sometimes plays out of tuneOverall, I think it's a good value for the money. If you are looking for a real-piano feel, or if you want to teach your little one how to play the...

May Contain Lead
My friend has this toy for her girls and everytime we go their house, my 3 year old son always asks for it so I knew he would love having one of his own. We bought it for Christmas this year and when I went to wrap it, I saw a warning on the bottom left corner of the box that says it may contain lead! We decided to keep it as my son does not chew on his toys anymore but had I gotten it when he was younger and teething, I would have definitely returned it. And I will probably not let him play with the microphone included because it's just too close for comfort. Not recommended for kids that chew on their toys.
