Product Description
The lives of most people have probably been touched by a whistle, whether a fine antique protected by a cabinet, or an inexpensive toy now lying half-forgotten in a drawer. A fascination for whistles can be found in the astonishing range of different types made in a wide variety of natural and man-made materials. Although known from prehistory, it is only since the Victorian era that the vast majority of whistles have been made for so many diverse purposes. Whistles are included in many areas of interest such as sport, the countryside, transport, the armed services, the police, ceramics and toys. The role of the whistle falls broadly into three categories: as an alarm, as a working instrument and as a novelty item. They are enduring sound-makers still required by a demanding public. This book covers all major types and gives a general introduction to the wonderful world of whistles. Top to learn more

compliments galore!
I love this pen and so does everyone who sees me wearing it it comes with blue ink, so i went to staples and got some black in inkstead. it's a bit hard to find a filler that fits without opening any boxes (i had a lovely employee help me) but otherwise, it's just perfect. i imagine most people won't be as particular with their ink as i was. Great whistle, loud, good seller, fast delivery
I got this whistle and it's very loud. It has a large loop which is good, it's very shiny looks new, stamped 1942 as described. Tough so it should last a long time, certainly cannot be bent. Thanks Don for selling these whistles. Top to learn more

This is what you're looking for
We use these bobby whistles for start/stop signals during archery events. The sound is the classic distinct two-tone chord. This kind of whistle takes more breath to blow than a modern whistle. The three I received were stamped as shown in the picture (Metropolitan Police London 1942). The whistles are metal, and not flimsy. The metal has the look of a mid-century manufactured product -- the edges aren't perfectly machined, so it looks more classic and hand-finished.If you're looking for a classic Metropolitan whistle, you'll be happy with this one. I bought two for gifts, and then bought another one for myself. Top to learn more

This particular whistle was originally collected by Martyn Gilchrist and can be seen in his recommended book 'More Whistles' Pg. 52. Most gunmetal whistles which are all rare had been made in the 18th and 19th century and up to world war one as far as I have observed. Gunmetal lends it self well to sea man's whistles being resistant humidity and salt. The whistle was made by an unidentified maker probably British maker. The Mariana** is one of the most beautifully designed whistles, made of machined. Though it is considered a Round whistle type , it is conical like a short beaufort type with a conicl top cap. The general unique design is a bit reminiscent of some rare small French cast whistle that is copper plated. The whistle appears on the book's cover as well.
