Can this really be Casio?
My first keyboard was a Casio. My brother bought it for me when I was 12. It was little more than a 24 note toy, but it was mine and I was proud to own it. As I grew into my music and more serious about performing, I became jaded and picky about my instruments. Casio had a well earned reputation for being cheap, low end starter boards. The most expensive keyboard I ever owned was a Yamaha DX7 FD. Until now, I never owned a full sized, 88 note keyboard, let alone, a keyboard with realistic action. Enter the Casio PX-130. Exit all my preconceptions about Casio. Look and Feel: I love the classic, uncluttered look of the instrument. It has minimal buttons and lights. There is no screen. It first and foremost wants to be a piano. It succeeds. It will look right at home in a studio, a church, or a living room. As for feel, when playing, I have to remind myself that it is not an acoustic. My fingers are convinced that these keys are...

Absolutely Amazing
There are several excellent reviews already, so I'll try to make this short, and will focus on the specific reasons I bought this keyboard. First, let me say that I've been playing piano for 32 years. 14 of those years I played professionally (as in, I got paid to play; nothing too fancy, but I'm just trying to establish some credibility as a musician). I've played several hundred different pianos and keyboards over the years. I own, in fact, an Alesis QS8 keyboard, which was a phenomenal keyboard when it came out 12-13 years ago, and is still in use and highly sought after today. However, the thing must be made of bricks. And the hard shell case needed to protect it weighs a ton too. And, the amp that you have to take with you everywhere you go wasn't too light either. I found myself missing opportunities to play at times because I just didn't want to lug everything around. So, I started looking for a lighter keyboard, and I came across the PX-130...

Realism, Expression and Dynamics
The grand piano sounds in the PX-130 delivers an unprecedented level of realism and expression. Four dynamic layers of stereo piano samples are integrated with Casio's proprietary Linear Morphing System, resulting in a grand piano sound with seamless transitions and a superior dynamic range. For added realism, the PX-130 simulates the sound of the open strings when the dampers are raised by the pedal using Acoustic Resonance DSP. The PX-130 also has 128-note polyphony, enough horsepower for the most demanding musical passages and the ability to layer sounds and use the damper pedal without worry of dropped notes. The result is a grand piano experience that is unmatched at any price.

Expressive Touch
The Privia PX-130 features a new Tri-Sensor 88-note scaled hammer action keyboard. Casio's superior engineering has resulted in an authentic piano touch that captures every detail and nuance of your performance. This scaled hammer action provides the weight, feel and resistance without sacrificing the portability of the instrument.

In addition to the superior keyboard action and piano sound, the PX-130 is the perfect instrument for music education. Featuring Casio's Duet mode, the keyboard can be split into two equal ranges, allowing student and teacher to play at the keyboard simultaneously. The PX-130's built-in 2 track recorder and metronome allows you to practice any tempo and later listen back to what you just played. The recording features can also be used to capture moments of creativity and remember song ideas. The optional SP-32 pedal board simulates an acoustic grand piano by providing all three pedals - soft, sostenuto and damper.

It's easy to connect the PX-130 to your computer with its built in USB MIDI interface. The PX-130's 88-note weighted scaled hammer action keyboard makes it an ideal controller keyboard for using with music software applications. An Eye-opener
I studied piano for about 10 years when I was younger. 20 years later I decided to take it back up again and went looking for a digital piano that I could live with. I found the Casio PX-130. No, as anybody will tell you, it's not the same as a "real" piano. If you're buying a digital piano thinking you'll get a baby grand in an oblong box, you're kidding yourself. What you will get for your money with this piano, however, is a fantastic digital piano for the price, so let's talk about that. 1. The action of this piano is constantly surprising to me with how natural and responsive it feels. It does not feel like a "keyboard" instead, it has the feel of some of the less hammer-y Japanese pianos I've played or a Rhodes that is in good shape. 2. Touch response on this piano is good. It is not great but it is definitely "good." No digital instrument is going to be able to reproduce the level of dynamic response which even a cheap piano can make, so...

The keyboard I always wanted
I'm an amateur musician, and I always wanted a big keyboard, something close enough to a piano, but the big keyboards were always so expensive. In top of that, they always come with lots of knobs and features that I never wanted to learn or try. I just wanted a piano-like keyboard to play. When I saw this keyboard for first time, I loved its 'minimalistic' style: no knobs, no screens, no buttons. Just the 88 keys and the minimum necessary controllers (3 buttons, 2 wheels and 1 slider), all in a beautiful and solid silver case. When I checked its price, I suspected maybe its quality was poor, but I had good references for the M-audio brand. So I decided to give it a chance and I'm still very proud of my purchase: just plugged it into the usb port of my PC and it was inmediately recognized. I was using FL Studio, but right now I'm trying Sonar and it works flawlessly. The keys offer some resistance to pressure, so it almost feel like piano keys. If you're...

Great with Garage Band
Great to have a velocity sensitive keyboard controller with full 88 keys at this price! I purchased based on the other reviews here which helped me understand what to expect. The keyboard is completely plug and play with OS X and works well with Garage Band. The velocity sensitivity is not the greatest. Even adjusting the sensitivity in Garage Band preferences, I cannot be anywhere near as expressive in my dynamic range as I can be on a real piano. But, I discovered that some aspect of this is in the digital instrument that the keyboard is controlling, and not the keyboard itself. I purchased the GarageBand Symphony Orchestra Jam Pack after using the keyboard for a couple of days. The Steinway grand in this Jam Pack not only sounds better, but has...

Wow !
A full and affordable lightweight 88 key MIDI controller... what more could one ask for... How about semi-weighted key ??? Done deal ! Here's the catch - - mutch to my delight, the action is almost exactly like that of a Hammond Organ - - my main organ and coincidentally I use it with the Native B4.... The feel is so B-3 like I actually prefer the action to any of the other Hammond Clones I owned. Of course, most people aren't going to be buying it for that purpose, but I can tell you... the feel is really nice... If you grew up in the era the affordable MIDI keybaords = junk era, this little baby will change your mind. Good enough for a pro... affordable enough for the serious student who needs all 88 keys. My only issue (and its a minor one) is that the USB connection is on the far left hand of the keyboard... logical if you're going to be setting it up in front of the computer... but I don't think I Macintosh G5 and 88 key controller are...

88-Key Semi-Weighted USB MIDI Controller

Pitch bend and modulation wheels are ideal for controlling synths, samplers, etc.

Easily assign the control slider to different parameters of sound modules or software.

88-note velocity-sensitive, semi-weighted action
88 keys means no constant hitting of an octave switch, an annoyance with smaller controllers. The semi-weighted action gives you a piano feel, and since it's velocity sensitive, your dynamic playing is accurately sent as data.

Pitch bend and modulation wheels
These are ideal for controlling synths, samplers, etc.

Volume/assignable control slider
Easily assign the control slider to different parameters of sound modules or software, for further control over your sound.

Advanced function button for programming
When the Advanced Functions button is pressed, the keyboard goes into "Edit Mode." In Edit Mode, the keys on the keyboard are used for selecting functions and entering data. Black keys are used for selecting functions, while the white keys are used for data entry and channel selection.

Sustain pedal input (pedal sold separately)
Add a sustain pedal, such as the M-Audio SP-1, for piano-like pedal control of your notes' duration.

Built-in USB MIDI interface
Easily interface with most MIDI software using the built-in USB MIDI interface. The standard MIDI "out" jack routes MIDI signals from the keyboard or computer to your external devices.

USB Powered
The 88es grabs power from the USB port on your computer. You can also purchase a 9VDC power adapter.

Mac OS X and Windows XP class compliant
Enjoy plug-and-play operation with both Mac OS X and Windows XP. Ableton Live Lite music production software is included, so you can make music right away on either platform.

Great sound and feel of a real piano
It's a very good sound. I hooked it up yesterday and played a bit. The feel is good. It's a solid piece of equipment. There are like 8 different sounds: Piano 1, Piano 2, Strings, Bass et cetera. It has a Midi port and for $8 or so dollars you can get a 10 foot midi-usb cable. You can interface great programs with that such as educational software. I have not done it yet but plan on doing it. The sustain pedal is fine. You do not need to buy a separate sustain pedal. You will need to buy or make your own stand.

Amazing quality for a great price.
I just purchased this piano a little over 6 months ago and I'm extremely satisfied with it. The weighted keys have nice heavy feel with great pressure sensitivity. They do take a little getting used to if you're more used to playing on a synth keyboard. Each of the instruments sound good and the keyboard has many features listed in the manual such as MIDI functions and control over reverb, etc. The sustain pedal capability makes the piano sound great. The MIDI-in and out function is a great plus, it also has an L an R line out as well as a 1/4" headphone output. The speakers have fairly good quality considering the price, and if you don't like them you can hook it up to an amplifier. Con: The only con about this keyboard which I didn't mark against it is the cheap sustain pedal it came with. It comes with a square sustain pedal which is a nice bonus, but after only a week or two, the pedal stopped working. I purchased an M-Audio SP-2 piano style sustain pedal, and now I...

Amazing for the price
I recently purchased this unit from Musician's Friend for around $300.00. It arrived quickly and I immediately set it up and took it for a spin. The pros: The keyboard itself is one of the most realistic I've seen in a digital piano. The keys are weighted, not "graded", and there is a very big difference. I haven't been playing piano for awhile, (synth fan) and it took a bit of getting used to. Today, I had the opportunity to play a Yamaha Grand piano and I can say that the feel of the Williams was somewhat comparable. Amazing! The sounds are quite realistic as they should be as these are digitally sampled. The little built in speakers are not worth the material they're made of, but I fed the output to two fender amps and it made a world of difference. The cons: While the controls are fairly straight forward, there are sub menus after sub menus and as the display is made of a simple 3 digit red LED, it is sometimes hard to figure out what it's trying to tell you...

The lowest that might do as a "starter" piano.
[I owe it to the potential buyer, searching for a good "starter piano" in this price range, to clarify that my singling out the Yamaha YPG-535 is based on the popularity rankings of instruments available from or through Amazon. There are at least 3 other, similar instruments that deserve equal consideration, even if they are not presently as conspicuous on Amazon: 1. Yamaha P-95 (a newer model than the YPG-535, with perhaps more "realistic" piano action); 2. Korg SP250 (new and with more powerful speakers than the Yamaha, but more than 3 times the weight of the Yamaha and including 30 onboard "Preset Songs" (the last thing you need if the point is to learn how to play); 3. Casio PX-3 (Sometimes overlooked because of brand but usually the most bang for your buck. My only reservations with this one are the gratuitous gadgetry--an SD card slot for downloaded computer sounds--and the extra weight (twice as heavy as the Yamaha) and expense (this particular Casio has no onboard speakers,...

One of the best
I am obsessed with this keyboard. Why? Because it's the first one that I've seen and played so far that has PERFECT weighting on the keys, beautiful sound, and a GREAT price. This keyboard has been on my wishlist for a while now, ever since I first saw it at Sam's. I just want to reiterate how well Casio has done with this keyboard - While there are a limited range of tones available on the PX-100, there are plenty of features for someone who is like me - If you want the feel of a real piano with the weight of an electronic keyboard, this is the keyboard you want to look at. I just couldn't help but fall in love with the keys on this baby, I've played on keyboards with weighted keys before, but this one just takes the cake - The keys are weighted propertly, they spring back like they should, and the weight is ranged just right - the lower keys are just the slightest bit heavier than the higher end. This thing is a DREAM to play! Featuring midi input/output ports, two headphone jacks,...

Excellent, excellent excellent for the price
I had a Privia PX100 for about a month before I decided to upgrade to (what I thought was) something nicer. So I returned my $500 Privia for a $2500 Yamaha Clavinova, and while I don't exactly regret buying the Clavinova, I also must tell you that even though I spent five times as much on the Clavinova, I certiainly don't feel like I got five times the value, not even close. Only after getting the Clavinova do I see what a truly remarkable instrument Casio's Privia PX 100 is. Yes, the Clavinova is nicer, but it's not $2000 nicer, and yes its sound is richer, but not $2000 richer. Yes, the keyboard has a better touch, but not $2000 better. Most of the extra features I paid so much for in the Clavinova are things that are cute to have but not necessary for a real pianist, like extra voices (also, 7 temperaments? I just don't remember the last time I wished I had a piano in mean-tone tuning). The Privia even has some features that my $2000 Clavinova doesn't have, like...

Best value available.
I'm not raving about this instrument--there are a lot of others I'd rather own. But you can't get those, complete with furniture-grade stand, for $500 like you can this one--if your a member of everyone's favorite warehouse club based in Kirkland, WA. Key action is decent, if a little light. Doesn't take long to accustom yourself to it. Samples are quite good, for such a cheap piece. Not long ago, you couldn't get piano sound this good from the $6000 Kurzweils, Rolands and Yamahas. Now everybody's got a new, improved piano sample, and they just keep getting bigger and better. If you've been waiting for quality and price to converge at a point where it just makes sense to not go without a piano anymore, this might be your ticket. Any player will tell you you really need a real piano if you're really going to play. But as a low-budget piano alternative that doubles as a really fancy MIDI controller for your computerized composition needs, this...

The slim, lightweight, and overall compact nature of Casio's Privia PX-100 digital piano means you can pack it just about anywhere. When you're not tickling its full 88 keys, you can stash the polyphonic keyboard in a closet, under a bed, or in other compact locations where most digital pianos refuse to fit.

The scaled hammer-action keyboard offers touch sensitivity for beautiful piano tones and a feature called New Sound Source which is said to give the PX-100 sound quality to rival that of an actual grand piano. Auto-accompaniment provides exciting, dynamic, and realistic background arrangements for pop, jazz, rock, and a range of the other genres. The PX-100 can provide complete orchestral accompaniment on command, too.

Other primary tones (voices) include strings and pipe organ, with 10 total tones. A layer feature allows simultaneous sounding of 2 tones, while a split feature lets you split the keyboard between 2 different tones. Lesson assembles functions that enhance your practice sessions, which you can devote to right-hand part only, left-hand part only, or both hands--whatever requires the most practice. You can also record songs for playback at a later point (up to 5,200 notes).

Definitely worth it for this price
This digital piano looks great, and sounds even better. I am glad I bought it. I was looking for good quality without spending thousands, and that's what I got. I feel very positively about the instrument. It offers what I wanted: a few basic voices (I mostly just wanted a good piano sound- it offers 3 of them), and a very high quality sound. (The negatives, and these are minor for most players: I often use a very light touch on the keys...the 3 piano voices do not pick that up too well, even though the instrument has touch sensitivity options. Much like some baby grand pianos, I have to strike the keys a little harder to get sound, which is not my style. For most players though, this will not even be an issue. Another negative is that the sustain pedal does not have as heavy as a sustain on the piano sounds as I would like... again, this is something relative to my style of playing and will not affect most players. Plus,...

Not Reviewed by a Professional
I'm certainly not a professional, however, I do know what a piano is supposed to sound like, and I know the difference between a Harpsichord, Organ, and a Harmonica: 'nuff said. First of all I would like to say that the Williams Digital Piano is by far the best instrument I have ever owned, next to my toy, an old Casio keyboard that I owned for quite some time, I was happy to finally sell that off in a garage sale. When I went hunting for another piano, I took my Sony headphones and headed off to various stores with digital pianos. This one by far sounded the closest to a real upright piano (Well, the Yamaha was closer, but another 1K more expensive...), and it had the features and look I was wanting. Pros --- 1. The weighted digital piano keys mimic perfectly the hammer-action of a real piano, and the sound is equally amazing. As I said I tested it out in headphones, and even at home in total silence the headphones are clear as anything and sound...

Poor customer support
I bought this piano (open box) from a local music store for quite a bit under comparable models from Casio and Yamaha. The good thing about the piano is it looks nice. Good accent furniture when not in use. It has three pedals like real pianos and the sound and action seemed good to my son who has been playing piano for four years. The piano is over hundred pounds and the materials used for wood looking parts is not of very good quality but this was also the case for Casio's and Yamaha's. When I brought the piano home I noticed that the foot pedal cable missing. I went to Williams Piano web site and guess what no phone number for customer support (red flag). They just have an e-mail address for support questions. Despite writing a couple of e-mails I received no reply's to get a replacement foot pedal cable. The piano has a 1 year warranty but I am not sure how one would claim warranty coverage given that you can't even get hold of customer support? I eventually...
